Was up at a tourist trap a few weeks ago and there was a couple of Mavic 2's, my own Mavic Air 2 and, to my surprise and delight, no fewer than two (2) Sparks all up in the air. Good to see the old girl still holding its own and in regular use!

Why green? What happens if it ditches? The ideal drone would be like an octopus that could change its colour, pale blue underside when you want it to be invisible in the air, orange all over when you want to see it.

I own a Phantom 4, Mavic Pro and Spark, I love using my Spark the most due to its ease of use and great footage, no complicated settings, no cables and easy to fly, great for indoors too, especially those tight spaces. It also has a tonne of built in features and special flying modes, I foresee many years of use as it is a well made, quality drone.

Well i had my Spark for a little over two months and fly 3-4 times a week. Always wanted to learn how to fly rc planes but didn’t had the patience or wanted to be “locked” to the same airfield in a rc club. With the Spark everyone can fly it right out of the box almost everywhere. That’s what i love about this little bird and had it with me a lot of times and filmed many places in my region. Now i want the Mavic Pro as my second drone and hope to see a price drop on the fly more combo:) I am also a big fan of your videos keep them coming;)

One week I have my Spark Captain Drone and it is amazing. Only now I met my own limitations, thats flying at higher altitudes. When the Spark flies at 40 meters high, its nothing for the drone itself (fly combo, so the perfect RC included), but for me it is. So small at that hight.. I have to learn this. Everything else, hand start, landing on my hand via different choices, recording, user settings, no problem at all. Fear of heights. 40m+... welll.. 😌 Really hope that one day I fly 200m+.

The Spark controller trickle charges the phone or tablet (not vice versa) when connected to an OTG cable. My tablet complains that it's told me before about the slow charging it gets when I connect it to something other than its high amperage charger. I don't know if that charging stops when you get flying, I have never drained the Spark controller's battery under any circumstances despite having a tablet and sometimes running three Spark batteries in a row. Anyway, you definitely don't have to worry about your phone being drained by the controller. It is probably a good idea to take a powerbank and assorted leads into the field with you to cover cases of unexpected battery drain. I once had my tablet die while the Spark was out dangerously exposed. It wasn't a catastrophe. The controller was still in contact. When I stopped panicking I hit RTH and it made that reassuring beep beep womb sound and came home, quite a few minutes later, as it had been over 700 metres away over woodland at the time. If that ever happens to you remember that the Spark doesn't know whether your phone is working, the Spark only knows whether or not it is in contact with a controller. If it is it awaits further instructions. It won't initiate RTH unless it has lost that signal, it doesn't know or care whether or not you can see anything on your screen.

My old boss showed me his spark before i got my mavic pro. It was fantastic to use and it started to show me the reliability and confidence a dji drone gives you. After 20-30 minutes though we burned through his 3 batteries and that alone was enough for me to keep saving a bit more to get the mavic pro instead. When we go flying together now i find he spends more time watching the mavic pro fly than flying his own drone (its practically 2 of his batteries used compared to one of mine).

Hi Captain. Bad news my spark landed in a creek yesterday and was under water 2-3 minutes. It’s now in a box with rice with the battery too and would be there for a good 3-4 days. Really hope it would work again when dried completely out. I don’t have DJI Refresh care so that’s why i’ll try to make it work again. If not i have a spare spark and then get a new one :)
@CAPTAINDRONE7986 жыл бұрын
You may be in luck, as long as you removed the battery after you took it out of the water and didn't attempt to power it on. The batteries have an internal fault system that causes them to turn off (short out) when in water. This will sometimes save the rest of the electronics in your drone.
@allanpetersen92436 жыл бұрын
Well i did just that removed the battery right away after the water dip. So it has been in the box now for over two days and i will try with another battery and see if it still works today:)

I agree’d that’s y I bought mine literally 1 week & a day ago... I love it. It is a bit finicky without the otg cable. I can’t find one anywhere & am waiting for my delivery from eBay. I constantly loose my connection however the remote does not lose connection & it even keeps recording. Get legs for it, trust me!!! I am glad it does freak out every now & then because I’m learning to control it & I’ve crashed it once not a scratch, lost control of it once & had to regain control right before it hit a building. That was on me I turned off obstacle avoidance... but I’m glad I’m making these mistakes on my Sparkicus now instead of a Mavic Pro 2 come Black Friday!!! I never use rth that scares me. I fly line of site anyway so I don’t need it & if I ever need to fly Uber far I’ll move closer... great drone to learn on... agree the camera can be improved!!

I have and love the spark, however i don't get the rated range. Apparently they deliberately weaken the signal because of the Australian laws.
@rasta77-x7o4 жыл бұрын
@Paul Townsend I can't prove it I just have read about it online. In Australia you must keep your drone in visual sight at all times and we all know that's impossible and nobody does it. But yes apparently it's limited when it knows it's operating here, that or its permanently limited through the firmware itself for the AU models. Could be not true, but either way the Spark has very bad range.

I really dig your videos. They're always well done, and I so, appreciate that you always record, good, hearable, audio. I assume your mostly using your lavaliere mike, but it's so nice to be able to hear people on these videos. I just bought a Spark, after already owning a Mavic Pro, and I love it. I haven't flown it very far from me yet, but it's super responsive and less conspicuous than the Pro. I'm wondering about this antenna thing you were talking about. I didn't know that the antenna was in the back of the Spark. Now, I'm certainly wondering if you flew it very far away and turned to make a panorama shot, if or how much it would affect the signal. Hmmmmm! Well, I'm gonna get a smaller tag for my Marco Polo tracker to put it on the Spark, but that still could be a problem if you lost connection over the water. At any rate, keep up the great videos, and I only hope I can get back to Canada some day, now that I have a couple of drones. Marc.

Thanks Marc. I had one of the very first SPARKs made (the one in this vid) and the antennas were more to the rear. DJI has since moved them further forward.

@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thanks for the response. That's really cool. I was originally gonna buy the Spark before I got a really good deal from a friend on a Mavic Pro. I was worried about all the fly away's and drop out of sky stuff I was reading about the Spark, but after I bought the Pro, I just kept thinking about the Spark for a smaller, more fun type drone, and made the plunge. I've actually experienced what seems to be it's more susceptible to interference, which showed up in the DJI Go 4 app, but then again I was very near my electronic gear at home, so duh. I just mean it seemed a little less immune to it than my Mavic Pro, but as long as I keep it away from the usual stuff, it seems fine. Again, I really enjoy your videos. You've really got a positive, upbeat presentation. That makes it so much more enjoyable and appealing to watch. Marc.

Many are jumping on the anti Collision LED mini strobe lights, anywhere from 1 to 4 LEDs. Seeing that the Spark is limited in space, can the lights have an effect on the elections of the drone? First, I would never put them on top of the Spark for fear they could come off and into the props. However, my big concern would be where many are placing them. And that's under the Spark by the four gold color cubs. Could the flash of the LEDs interfere with the landing sensors, especially then placing it in the return home mod? What's your take on this? Thanks for your video it was very informative.
@CAPTAINDRONE7985 жыл бұрын
As long as the strobe is not covering anything, then all should be well. I think you can place the Lume Cube strobe on the top center with no interference from the props.

Recently got the Mavic Air... it's great, but I still got a craving for the Spark for a few reasons: - The Spark is even lighter, meaning I can go higher in countries like Austria that have the "79 Joule rule" (where you calculate the max height you can fly by calculating at which height falling down the kinetic energy would reach 79 Joules - for the Mavic Air it's at around 18 meters, for the Spark it would be at around 27 meters). - The Spark looks like toy - which is good in drone-sceptic countries where people wouldn't be so startled. The Mavic Air does look slightly more serious. - As you mentioned in the video, the lower noise (is it that much of a difference really? I find my Mavic Air to be really loud at least) also helps with that regard After all, a drone with better specs is uselss if you can't fly it legally or "socially acceptably". I've been trying to keep myself from spending more money by buying the Spark in addition to the Mavic Air... Also, before I got into serious droning, I had a Tello to get a taste of everything. I always hand-landed and sometimes hand-launched it, and I kind of miss that the Mavic Air isn't really designed to do that (I know you can technically do that, but it's not "officially" specified to do so). I think having the Tello, and then getting into it seriously, the Spark might be the best, most natural progression.

MannyCAM True, it looks so good. Will you sell one of ur sparks when you get the drowned one back from DJI? How did you manage to drown it?
@MannyCAM6 жыл бұрын
Freddie Lonie ; the captain had mentioned the lack of back sensors, yep I was exploring a river bank, filming some ducks that were nesting, a low branch that was behind the Spark is what sent it to its watery grave..lol fortunately it was only 1 foot deep near the bank and I quickly retrieved it. No damage to the gimbal or anything else. Just shorted the board. Lets see on selling one. Seriously I LOVE this lil gal. Totally invisible to onlookers being so small. To me stealth is the biggest reason aside from being built like a tank. But if the pro is ever given life, then for sure I would part with one.

I have just discovered a The Spark last month after carefully looking for my first drone. I got the Fly More Combo refurbished with 12 month warranty for less than £400 here in the UK. That's a good price here and its like new, the batteries giving me max flight time. I don't have the need for anything else and why do I need to go over even 1 kilometer when its not in the drone code or even legal-going to be illegal ( cant figure which but it wont be legal at some point if not already). I don't own a 4K monitor and really i don't miss the ability to crop or feel its a bad 1080p. I use a second hand ipad mini 2 and battery being sucked dry is not an issue. I only use it to fly the drone. I didn't want to risk having an incompatible Android phone and can use it if I decide to upgrade later

You don't feel the need to use an OTG cable? I thought the video quality to the phone suffered due to wifi.
@CAPTAINDRONE7986 жыл бұрын
Not at all. An OTG cable is not a requirement for the Spark. If you had an old phone with poor WiFi or slow processor, then perhaps an OTG would help.

I also have a Phantom 4 Adv and just bought the Spark a few days ago. I am still getting used to it especially the shorter battery life however I am pleased with the video quality and portability. On my first flight with the Spark, outside in the cold with the snow around. I flew it in front of the house and when I went up to get to a safe altitude, it appeared to want to continue up. I freaked and immediately took it down. I was wondering if you have ever heard of this issue. I'm waiting for warmer weather and a much more open space to try again.
@CAPTAINDRONE7985 жыл бұрын
I have not heard of this occurring. I have flown it in massively cold weather without issue: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXLKZKCln6-jr9k

I know this is an older video but it's still relevant for the reasons you point out: basically the Spark is still a viable drone option. I'm no fan of DJI thanks to their ridiculous firmware update requirements and geo fencing around airports. I get safety but as a Part 107 pilot (USA) I need to be not distracted by warnings and restrictions that I am already aware of. That being said, the Spark is actually one DJI product I'm more interested in over other DJI drones. The one thing I find odd is the digital image stabilization seems immature compared to the Parrot Bebop 2 Power which I have. Even in Sport mode the image stabilization is fantastic with none of that twitchy, jerky motion. How does the image stabilization work with the physical gimbal? Also, when you say the Mavic Air is the loudest drone DJI makes, do mean of the Mavic line and the Phantom 4 line? Because the Phantom 1 and 2 were very loud as well as the Inspire and even Inspire 2. Not to mention the Matrice line. Anyway, good video and convincing in terms of believing the Spark is still a great buy!
@CAPTAINDRONE7986 жыл бұрын
The video image from the Spark is much smoother when you watch it on your computer than in my video. My editing software does not handle the files from the Spark well, so you get that jerk/twitch. Yup, I recall the Phantom 2 more than the 1 & it was loud, as was the Phantom 3 and Phantom 4. The Mavic Air has a sound that is at a pitch that drives humans up the wall and attracts attention. Although the Phantoms are louder, they have a lower pitch and are less annoying.
@Canyon766 жыл бұрын
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 ahhh yes. The pitch makes sense! Thanks for your videos.

just curious if you don't like dji what drone companies do you like? I can't even think of any other than the parrot? and the go pro karma? Not trolling I'm just trying to do my due diligence research wise.

@@saiyan_princestudios9790 There is Yuneec! Although, admittedly Yuneec is kind of less than it once was. And there is Autel Robotics with Their EVO DJI Mavic clone. I admit that DJI is the biggest and covers the most features, but I just hate the way they run their company: airport restrictions etc. and the forced firmware updates. But DJI has the best features and because they are the biggest they also have the most sustainability which gives assurance that the company will be there for a while. I have a love hate relationship.

Do you think you could use this spark to shoot exterior of car dealerships or real estate promotions? Would you need the air for that?
@CAPTAINDRONE7986 жыл бұрын
You could use the Spark for photo and video. If you want to increase the photo and video quality then you need the Air or higher.
@pjhudson53445 жыл бұрын
unless you plan to use serious post production software like BM resolve 14 or adobe xx then spark would be plenty for RE shoots. With RE shoots, sometimes discretion is more important than mps. All my RE shoots required ZERO post, the agents just wanted a decent elevated road still shot and the spark shoots HIFI stills! Spark is so light, really no need for insurance unless your flying around expensive breakables.
@snelrac196 жыл бұрын
Nice video, would you advise upgrading to the mavic air if they have the spark?
@CAPTAINDRONE7986 жыл бұрын
Not really. Sure you get a better camera and rear sensors, but not much more. From the Spark you could jump to the Anafi or wait and see what DJI has to offer to replace the Mavic Pro.

I only have 2 gripes with the Spark: 1) As you mentioned the battery life needs to be much better - a real 20-25 minute flight time would make all the difference, and 2) Its price in the UK - The UK price needs to more accurately reflect the dollar price.
@hughesy6066 жыл бұрын
Nick B don’t forget the dollar price doesn’t include local sales tax. If you take VAT off the UK price it becomes a little more comparable.

I recently sold my Spark because of missing 4K - 1080p is just out of date, especially if you have a 2.5k (or bigger) screen. Looks awful 😪 Bought a barely used Air 1 instead while I am waiting for a worthy successor. If only the Spark could do 4K - it would have been the PERFECT drone since it has the perfect size and form factor!
