I have a Phantom 4 :) DJI is leading the push in more main stream type drone tech is what i think... i was tempted to buy one of these sparks but i am re thinking now that i have watched your review. Thanks. i guess they created it to try to appeal to the world as it is now more self absorbed and media based hence the "selfie" novelty drone type feel i get from this one. and of course without riveling its own product so they made this one not only cheaper in price but also quality ( not parts quality but features such as Mavic 4k... spark 1080... Mavis 3 axis... Spark 2 axis )
@BjoernVetter7 жыл бұрын
The Mavic, image quality for photos could be a bit better, but not having to lug around a big phantom an a nature hike and still be able take shots from a different angle with "my sky tripod" makes up for that, as it easily fits next to my camera in the backpack.
@gfamhomevideos7 жыл бұрын
read the manual!!! I just got mine a few days ago and have had none of the problems everyone else has been having because I actually took the time to learn how the software works and what gestures the camera is trying to pick up on. It's such an easy drone to fly! Just like how I've never had my phantom have a "fly away" because I've always flown it in proper conditions with strong GPS signal it pays to read the manual

Who else loves Peter's videos, but feels like he didn't give the spark a full chance. He only flew the spark once (on one battery) Also, there is a dedicated controller for it that expands the range up to 2000m, and allows the spark to go into sport mode. No one was a master with the phantom 4 pro after flying it for 10-16 minutes. Anyway, hoping the next review has a bit more depth to it and time spent on it. Peace

It really is damn near unusable without the controller.. I can't get the gesture controls to work nearly as well as many of the earlier reviewers were able to... might be the beard? ;) lol Anyway, I've found that as long as I'm not near a wifi router, the connection to the controller is rock solid, and I'm going to pick up an OTG micro USB / USB A adapter so I can plug my phone directly into the controller and disable the wifi connection all together. I've heard that ups the reliability and the operational distance even more.

Going to have to agree with the other people in the comment section. Usually you give great advice on products, but you bought an entry level drone Why did you expect it to live up to the professional one? I don't understand why you spent a whole video complaining about it not living up to its more expensive counterparts, that was already a given. Instead, you should have spent more time actually researching all the features as you clearly didn't know much about the drone. You can unlock a feature in the settings that will allow the drone to fly backwards. Also, use the controller just like you do for the phantom. The range on the control is very long for the size of the drone, it is also easier to maneuver. Also 16 minutes is a lot of time considering the size. They knew people would want more flying time which is why they made the battery so portable and easily removable. This video is getting a thumbs down from me.

Hey, Peter! Absolutely addicted to your channel - Honestly, you are the ONLY channel that I watch on youtube on a regular basis. The information you provide in such an entertaining way is truly top notch! Keep up the good work! I currently operate the DJI Inspire 1 PRO, Phantom 4 PRO and Mavic PRO for my aerial drone services business, V1DroneMedia, in Cleveland, Ohio. I am loving the Phantom 4 PRO, which I believe strikes a perfect balance between the portability of the Mavic and the quality of the Zenmuse X5 on the Inspire 1. The portability and features of the Mavic PRO (as of now) can't be beat - it's pretty awesome being able to throw the Mavic in your camera bag and have it with you wherever you go. The Inspire 1 is great if you really need the better camera quality, but it is a bit of a pain to lug around and it takes much longer to set up compared to the other two. You wouldn't have to worry about your ego though (like you do with the Spark) when flying the Inspire 1! LOL! ;)

My first day with the spark was a complete write off . After all the updates were done I was able to get it going the next day. Now I have no regrets , I absolutely love this thing. A couple of key points I'd like to say. turn off return to home height distance when flying in doors or you'll be sorry as it scapes along the ceiling trying to get home on low batt. Also I had some problems flying around a cool bridge cause of an airport near by. This can bypassed by taping a piece of aluminum on top to cut the GPS . The video recorded on the drones SD card comes out a lot better then your phone. Use guards indoor and order extra propellers.

Nice little carry case, extra battery, smart charger, prop guards (for noobs or tight spaces), and most importantly - the RC controller. The controller makes the Spark so much more fun and useful. Good video. Not sure who the target audience is supposed to be. As for the Spark, it's not meant to be a professional photographer tool. it is an entry into UAV hobby. It is marketed more for people wanting to dabble and get a toe into the UAV pool. Your debate is not strong, you are a professional. I would expect you to use higher end equipment (so would your clientele). That being said the Spark is far more portable then most other drones. The price is another consideration. You Phantom 4 Pro is around $1400 for a package deal. So is the Mavic. The Spark is HALF that price in it's combo!!!!! Here is a great way of looking at it, you as a professional would shoot on a Canon 7D or better. The average person doesn't need that for their camera. They can easily buy a top end point and shoot for thousands of dollars less. Let's stop comparing these drones like they were meant to be equals.

It has actually something to do with having insurance and inforcing no fly zones etc. Also whats the bullshit with papers and Hitler? It`s not the Gestapo it`s the same as the FAA in the USA. Casey Neistat also got Problems with it because in the USA you aren`t allowed to fly your drone everywhere(in the city, over Emergency efforts. etc.) you want. Having papers for it is just an easy way to find out that this drone belongs to this person when it should crash or somehting else happens to it. It also determines what drone can fly over which terrain depending on the sice and weight. Also we are not one Nation(Europe is a Continent not a Country) and there are different laws in different countries so if you want to say that you have a Problem with the laws in my Country say the Laws in Austria are shit or suck or something else but don`t say stuff like "Would have thought you Euros would have learned when Hitler wanted everyone to show their papers. " If I wanted to insult The United States of America i would say so and I wouldn`t say America because America is a continent and I wouldn`t want to insult the Canadians and Mexicans too ;)

I’m a hobbyist photographer, wanted to get a cool, reliable drone to test out so I picked the Spark. Thing is awesome especially with the controller. After a while I might upgrade to the Mavic Pro.

I actually purchased a Spark in the "why not" mentality! Turns out this little drone is becoming one of favorites to fly. Second to my Mavic Pro of course but the Spark has its place in my drone line for sure

Spark looks great to me as I'm looking for a drone to bring when out riding my horse. Want to be able to throw it and follow me around at a gallop or something. Not to keen on the hand gestures though. Any advise?

How bout a DIY handle for your spark for the next vid? ;)
@Squawk-VFR7 жыл бұрын
I found that it doesn't like gesture mode in wind conditions, I noticed the wind blowing in your video. I fought mine as well. But, with the controller it's pretty cool little drone. I got the green fly more combo, and a controller is a MUST! It works with a phone or tablet, but I think having the controller makes a big difference.

Unfortunately I think I feel the same way. Great high quality footage and editing but I am not convinced he gave it a well tested review. The gestures may not be needed but with the controller, it is a fantastic drone. Better than the Phatom 3 Standard by a long shot

Thanks for the honest review Pete. I'm looking to purchase a drone for fun and to add to my vids, and this isn't likely to make the cut for my needs. Off to watch more reviews to see what fills the bill.

I totally agree , if you are coming down from bigger better drones you are going to be frustrated with all the limitations . I have owned them all and the Mavic is the best bang for your bucks . Ok the Mavic doesn't quite keep up with the Phantom 4 Pro camera but it eats it on everything else and the camera is still very good on 4K ...

Look Peter, I had the same first impression. and second impression. I was ready to toss it after a few flights. Though it flies better with the controller than a phone controller, the delay in some locations (near my work with lots of WiFi) was so bad the drone was not flyable. Piece of junk. ....Why did I spend the $$$ --- Until I go a data adapter and cable to connect my iPad directly to the controller. Then I started loving it! Responsive, fast, portable. Great for travel or inside shots. I've flown many many many quads, from toys to pro and this is a keeper. Give it another try.

"Its only 1080p" Well, give it out if you going to complain about its good quality. At least its not 720p
@jamison747 жыл бұрын
Good quality?!? In the world of drones now capable of filming in 5K having a max res of 1080p is far from "good quality". It is a toy that has advanced hand gesture features. That are only good to play with. Why would anyone want a video of themselves waving madly? They are gimmicks that any child would be bored with after 10 minutes.

It seems like you just brought the spark to compare it to the phantom and its features. The spark is an amazing device full of features. Sure its no Mavic or Phantom, but does extremely well in flight and video.

Thank you Pete for this comprehensive and honest review. I was thinking about buying this super tiny drone because of its portability and so easy to carry around no huge cases. However the fact that ir is not that responsive and stable when it comes to wifi connection, I would think of it as a toy better than a really useful device. It did surprise me the color quality though

My favourite drone to fly is the Phantom 4! I currently have the Mavic which I love but theres something about the Phantom 4 that just feels right. Size matters when it comes to drones

The Spark travelled well in the L-pro 450 without the foam box. So no need for it. Good to have a second drone option around with little real estate used up in my opinion.
@sakar96887 жыл бұрын
Why don't people get this? This drone was clearly made with the purpose for amateur use and easy handling like a toy for those who want to buy a drone in an affordable price and which isn't complicated to fly. If filmmakers want a drone they can buy other professional drones that are available. People are getting this drone so wrong.
@PeterMcKinnon7 жыл бұрын
+IAMSAKAR I agree with you- completely. I don't think people are getting it wrong - I still want to check out the new features and technology within and see how it handles as something new in our industry. Skill level aside- it's a product I'm interested in checking out so I'll review it based on my needs. :) thanks for watching!

I love using Spark indoors with WiFi control. Easy to maneuver, painless ease of use, and decent photos when available lighting is good. Not feeling the gesture control .. pointless other than as conversation piece. I've got P4 Pro, Mavic, and Spark. Spark is underrated ...
