I've just used the DJI's for the 1st time on a production for 10 days, and for our use case we had them in Broadcast Mode as it was 3 Camera's but with 2 Handheld monitors, and in that mode they're comparable to the Bolt 750, and were quite disappointing to be honest. In control mode though they are solid as a rock

It's an interesting video but I feel like the delay test are too simple. Also, what you aren't showing is the delay from the SDI out of the DJI Monitor which is really bad from what I experienced. I'm curious to know if it would have been improve with the new receiver or if it is still as bad.

Exact numbers are on DJI website! This is just a real world demonstration of how I use the unit. Gonna try and get my hands on the stand alone unit to test delay on production monitors as well!

I’d be curious about how the DJI system performs in low light conditions. Working as an AC for higher budget narratives or commercials, I often noticed on lower budget monitors, that they cut the shadows. So especially on feature film sets I experienced quite often to shot in seriously edgy light conditions on purpose, so the image I got was sometimes hard to judge weher something is in focus or not. Especially remembering the old Paralinx or bolt 500 systems. There was quite a compression going on. I noticed a big improvement since Bolt4k was released on that. Also the monitor performance for this on the Cine7 is outstanding, in my opinion. Daylight viewability I’d be also quite curious about for the DJI system. Long term reliability for sure is the next thing. How does it behave in high and low temperature environments, how in high humidity environments. But for sure that’s not something I expected you to test here ;)! For that price it’s a fair deal to just have one or two monitors and Tx as a backup. Also one thing I had in mind when I saw the test. Did you check the systems also one by one? There is much likely some interference cause from one system to the other. The distance of both transmitters was not even 50cm as both were mounted on the Komodo. Which normally is the very minimum you should have transmitters next to each other. Better further away… So I could image the performance of both systems might be better without having another transmitter sending next to it. Also for the receivers I could imagine some distance of at least one meter, the signal could benefit from. But anyways, I highly appreciate the effort you took to show the most obvious and important real world results from comparing the systems. Cheers!

Not surprised. Teradek 750 is notorious for bad signal. Maybe try with a Teradek 6.

Hello, I appreciate if you can help me with the following questions... I want to use the cin monitor combo to see the camera live on board a competition car rolling on a circuit... queries: The furthest distance between receiver and transmission can be 2km, there may be obstacles... The camera to connect is a go pro via HDMI cable. Is it possible? Does audio and video reach the monitor? Can the audio be heard through a headset? If I wanted to connect the monitor to a normal TV via HDMI, do I have to add the rear accessory? The monitor only has HDMI input... With the expander and the HDMI output on the TV would the image and sound be from the camera? Thank you, I await your response.

Somehow I am not surprised that Teradek loses signal at 200 feet, when the maximum of the cheapest model should be 750, even in an area with some supposedly non-exaggerated urban interference, it should do better than that. In theory eheh. Please, make a comparison with a Vaxis Storm system, like the 1000s, that is in the price range of the basic Teradek models... Since the early 4K models,Teradek has been more and more unreliable, signal dropouts and general instabilities, inability to pair, a number of issues all around. I keep hearing stories of systems dead on sets and long sessions of troubleshooting needed, often bringing to no results. Productions often choose it just for the name, because if it was for the actual performance it would be already out of the industry. Some rental houses already don't want to hear about it anymore. Vaxis (Storm of course, not Atom) doesn't offer 4K transmission but it has all the features of a high end system as it is, with uncompressed zero latency stable signal. It would be interesting to see how it compares with this DJI system...

The Teradek 3000 can commonly lose connection even at a hundred feet in city conditions. Surprisingly flaky for what it costs, subject to interference from Wifi and other frequencies. Common source of headaches. Became an industry standard by buying out the competition and become familiar name with Producers who are paying for rentals, not by being the best.

I've seen instances that teradek have poor connection, or lose signal completely even though the transmitter is inside the house, and the receiver is no more than 20 feet outside the house. Walls weren't even that thick...

EDIT: the fan issue was resolved, it came damaged and is quiet after we sent it in for repair. I was very surprised when the studio I work with got the DJI transmission. Hands down the best wireless video I’ve used out of the 5 brands I’ve used. The biggest issue, and it can be a big one is the fan noise on the transmitter. It is very loud and has caused real problems when rolling audio in quiet rooms.

Tilta released a cooling system for the DJI TX which should hopefully keep the noise down. Haven’t tried it yet.

I run video playback and qtake on large budget sets , we no longer take jobs where production forces terradek as the RX package . this isnt even a remote contest .

DJI is great at breaking the standard with features and price, but they’re terrible at supporting their products. Once a new version is released, the old version stops getting updates, even if bugs still exist. Ask anybody with an original DJI focus.

Even with the existing current model, over 2 years they still didn’t get the bug fix! High Bright monitor + grip + ronin 4d, mode button bugs!! I’m not sure what other company (except Chinese) need to force the customer to register to be able to use their product.

Yep, you buy a 2000 usd drones and two years after you just cannot get a $ 10 usd propeller. Batteries swelling and non available to replace it, so you have to pay more for second hands ones.

i would also say this aswell, your opening statement where you bring the dji down to mid production is slightly underplaying . i would happily run the dji system on a multi million pound shoots. distamce is absolutley massive. we do car commercials where we battle terradek all day long. i personally own a vaxis 3000 storm and athough its class its still not in the dji transmittor range. we shoot in scotland and often find ourselves in glencoe and the likes using huge line of site set ups . iv gotta be honest guys id happily sanction this onto a set. 1 last thing. we purchased vaxsis the week it was released and that was a serious risk as camera teams and DPs hadnt heard of it. we took the risk and within months the cheaper vaxis ( by far ) to the terradek counterpart was being demanded on sets . cheaper does not mean inferior by any means. iv stood on many a set next to a drone op and been like "why dont they put you tec in rx packedges" while his or her drone flies 10km away lol , well its here .....

I don't think a slate is a valid test. As witnessed by the fact that you got two different results for latency between tests which probably means actual latency is around 3.5 frames. Latency shouldn't vary. I assume you are working it out from filming the monitors. It would be more accurate with a timecode slate fliming at say 100fps so you can measure latency in 1/100th of a second. You could also just film a monitor playing back timecode.

teradek 750 sucks anyway. go for the higher ones. as a professional Focus Puller there is no chance to see a DJI system on set because of the latency.

That's because rental houses don't like them being connected, if the monitor goes down or the receiver they have to send the whole unit in for repair. Meaning they're out both a monitor and a transmitter for a while.
