Thanks for the great and easy instruction. Probably, one thing to add which I came across when setting things up today for the first time: I previously had defined end points for the manual focus motor on the RS2 because my lens can focus beyond infinity. And exactly those preconfigured end points prevented the focus module to even communicate properly with the RS2. After removing those focus motor end points everything worked out absolutely smooth.

Thanks for this tutorial. How do I re-calibrate a lens if I am not happy with the initial calibration? When I select the lens, it always goes to calibrating the motor, but I want to re-calibrate the distance settings.

Hi DJI, Please can you tell me which screws you use to hold the focus motor into the titla cage? I can see at 0:37 there are red tightening arms, I cannot fit the rod support supplied with the RS2 and my bmpc 6k otherwise 😅

@@RemcoFPV I have the 24 50 and soon the 75 50 is ab bit blue so i get the 75 . In all they are great but they have a special look to them so they are not general lenses. Cloors are stronger but they are no so sharp als makes manual focusssing harder because of this.

@@kynni i finally found out how... You have to select the one you want to calibrate again, it will asks for an auto calibrate the motor focus, then you have to go to the general 3D focus, and do the motor focus calibrating again, and then it allows you to make the 3d focus calibrating on the previous selected template. Yeah...not intuitive at all.

I have the gimbal on order and can't wait for this system. If at any point there can be a firmware update that allows tracking across the screen or at least for the focus to stay where it is when a subject leaves frame, then it will be a game-changer. Until then it will have very limited application if it only works on something centre frame.

Is the focal length recorded in the gimbal, simply a record for the user or is it somehow used in calculating focus? If there’s a crop at different resolutions, does the gimbal require ‘relative focal length’ of the lens to help calculate focus, rather than the actual focal length?

Also how do you stop the focus motor popping out of the ring teeth every time it calibrates? I see you've used the lens support strap to tie around the rod, is this the fix?? DJI none of this is in the manual 😂

@@withlogic I made sure everything was a rigid as possible, and using their lens support strap to hold as tightly as possible. Also holding lens and focus motor together during calibration. The lack of reply from DJI here I feel quite let down by. I also had to make new screws for the rod that holds the focus motor so they were long enough to fit in the title cage. A right old bodge job... but... it worked. The calibration part is quite violent, and without being able to (as you could on the ronin rs) set the boundaries of the focus motor wheel, this isn’t a great fix. Please update the firmwire so we can select the focus wheel end points without having to buy a whole new focus wheel and motor! Has anyone added another to test if that’s possible...?

Hey Adam! If you snug up the focus grip, it helps. It does that when the focus grip ring is not tight enough. That usually fixes it. However, if you still need to, use your hands to stop the focus right before it hits that point. It is a bit frustrating for sure!

The 3D focus system is a separate add on for the new RS2 gimbal. It’s used to auto focus manual lenses using Lidar??? I think... Either way it allows you to adapt pretty much any manual lens into a center autofocus lens - which is pretty awesome considering the possibilities. And in many cases the system they use for focus is superior to a lot native autofocus processing in camera.

@@YoungBlaze Yep, It's an awesome setup, but there's a steep learning curve if you're going to be using the RS2 beyond the basics... That said, the basics are there too and make this gimbal really approachable in the short run - easy to balance, great specs, and you could get by just mounting up a camera and leaving it in autofocus, it doesn't have to get technical technical until you want it to. After the basics, there's AI focus tracking with the raveneye system, tons of different fx modes for different kinds of movement, car mounting with remote control or multi person opperation, the 3d focus system for manual lenses, ect... I think the RS2 is the cheapest gimbal on the market for this kind of flexability - not perfect, but it'll get you there :)

could be many reasons. you have to connect your phone to the transmitter, not to the gimbal. an you have to activate the image transmission in the app interface. check your cameras HDMI output settings as well

Make sure your Sony is set to output 1080p to the raveneye. I had the same issue with my fuji xt3 so I dropped the hdmi output resolution to 1080p and it works.
