We had a problem that we were at production capacity while starting to also burn out crew, so the natural solution was to raise our rates to keep things sustainable & maybe reduce the workload a little. The result of course was more bigger productions, particularly with some key clients. Go figure. Though a side effect has been that we cab afford to be better resourced to do productions easier and pay crew more also. And for the most parts the clients are happy to pay more for what is better results for them also. It also then allows us both time and resources to better serve clients that maybe don't have as robust budget but who we still want to work with for other reasons. And sometimes clients do go in another direction; witch either results in them finding a vendor who is a better fit for them (which also helps grow local production capacity) and eases our calendar a little, or they come back to us later with a new appreciation of our value. All of our biggest clients have tried other options at some point, some of whom they continue to work with for smaller stuff; and then they come to us for the bigger events where it matters most - and pays best. It's a great sustainable fit for everyone. So yeah, my advice to anyone is generally: raise your rates!

I have mentioned it a handful of times when asked in a live stream but have generally elected to not talk too much about my software career on a channel focused on video production. Don't want to bore the folks that aren't involved in that, and people are very quick to click away when something doesn't pique their interest. For what it's worth, the type of work I'm most comfortable with and may be my most valuable skill is with custom Windows desktop apps and services, specifically those written in C#/.NET... both WinForms and WPF. There is still a huge need for that in corporate even though most of the world has moved to web apps. I have a lot of other tools that I've used quite a bit and am very comfortable with, in desktop, web, and server environments, and more... but that one has been a bit of a unique niche that I know especially well, having done it for more than 30 years... and one that doesn't change constantly like web development tends to do, so those years of experience are quite useful and relevant. Next most valuable is probably as a DBA with SQL Server, MySQL, or Oracle, which I've also done for almost 30 years. I've done contract software engineering and development for just over 40 years now in nearly every industry out there, so my breadth of experience is pretty wide. I understand business processes and procedures in a lot of different disciplines. And I obviously know multimedia technologies really well too. I have a knack for figuring out what users actually want (not just what they're asking for), and finding solutions that are sustainable, maintainable, and quick to implement. And I tend to implement solutions many times faster than other developers, since in most cases I'm nearly always doing something that I've already done many times before and have already thought through and figured out the right and ways to get it done.

Remote production (REMI) will definitely be a thing in the next few years. The main challenges are latency, bandwidth and camera control. In terms of latency, with hardware encoders and decoders like the Makito X4, we can expect as little as 250ms glass-to-glass. As for camera control, I mean remotely controlling cameras (exposure, white balance...). This is the trickiest part in my opinion. Some people create a VPN so they can access the CCU as if it were local. But not so easy with prosumer cameras. This is an area where software development could be done.
