G’day DJ, awesome channel! SYMOPS does operate in Melbourne. Runways 34 (landing only) & 27/09 (departures & landing). No simultaneous departures though. Aircraft landing (only) on 34 must hold short (LAHSO) & exit to taxiway before the intersection with 27/09. Aircraft can simultaneously depart & land on 27/09. 09 is rarely used, approx only 2% of landings, & 1% of departures. Melbourne winds are rarely easterly. New parallel runway will create 50,000 jobs? Typical that these numbers are always hugely inflated by politicians & others with vested interests.

Fossil fuels in aviation are likely to be around for a long time due to the energy density requirements for aircraft. However, the time scale which Earth replenishes fossil fuel supply naturally is in the hundreds of millions of years. Regardless, supply is not the issue with fossil fuels, especially considering the volume of current reserves and the expected come down of demand in most areas of the economy over the next century. It's the effect of the emissions on the global weather system which is of real concern.

I wish Heart well, but the goal is really what they call a "stretch goal". It is proper that you emphasise that this is a demonstrator, and a very early demonstrator at that. The amount of money they are going to consume (flush?) is IMHO eye-watering. Maybe an operational plane (with severe limitations compared with today's planes) is possible, but today's technology is completely incapable of a plane anywhere near current operational planes, unless you count SAF but then production quantities of this fuel are tiny. But these efforts have to be made to drive improvements in the technology. But IMHO zero CO2 is an impractical goal, for aerospace and for industry/everyone in general. Sure, we should be more aware of our impact on the environment, but CO2 is only one of these. But that is another windmill (to tilt at).

The third runway at Melbourne Airport is at least 20 years late but I guess it is a case of better late than never. Apart from the absolute necessity for a rail link to both Melbourne and Avalon, they should be planning a second runway and a major expansion of freight handling at Avalon with the aim of making it the main freight airport for the Greater Melbourne area given its proximity to major road and rail infrastructure and to sea ports.

@danny_the_KАй бұрын
This Electric Aircraft is 15 years behind to meet these goals. They need to parallelize these testing processes so flight testing can be done while taxi and ground testing are done at the same time. They need 6 aircraft doing these tests as we need to complete it all in the next few years so production and operation can be started. The need for a modular battery swap out system is hugely important or a battery technology that can recharge in 45m or less because the biggest issue will be this charge time. Tesla should be involved and building a terminal based charging system is right up their alley. Why keep reinventing the wheel when they could just reuse the work Tesla has already pioneered. What is the expected range, seating, payload capacity of this aircraft. Come on folks, we expected more from this weak progress... innovation when Tesla has already beat all the technical hurdles of ground based operations for their cars should be easy. My interest as a pilot, entrepreneur, engineer and interested investment party, is slipping away do to this slow progress.
