It's probably just a rackmounted computer. You can build a standard PC in a shallow depth server case. Notice how he's using a computer monitor and the USB leads from his controllers lead back to the case?

Well, what Mad Zack showed in that video wasn't exactly muting/unmuting the clips while playing with play position, what he was actually doing was more simple: he played clips with the pads like you normally do in a drumrack, and playing with pitch and filter in the encoder to recreate the effect. What you are doing is better in my opinion, more like actual scratching, just what I was looking for. You are a genius.

By the way this can be achieved using python for ableton (without m4l), which I guess is more reliable. Even splitting the track into several clips will not be necessary
