A while back, I spotted a random guy in a Truck series race at Charlotte and was able to help him clear guys quickly and help out with his corner entry. Finished the race 2nd, had a good time.

I don’t spot on iRacing but it can be useful with sight lines & angles before I visit a track. I make custom cameras for the actual spotter stand, I make a true POV cam & a lower FOV “binocular” cam. I switch back & forth like I would in RL. For most of the tracks I’ve spotted especially road courses it’s usually pretty close. Before I do a secondary gig I like to get a view of where I’ll be & get an idea of obstructions, hand off opportunities etc. Great tips in the video! Thank you for the awesome content per usual 🏁

I often spot/crew for my teammates on road courses. We usually don't bother clicking the "spot" button so that they can keep their existing spotter as the left/right calls are less important than on oval. The bigger focus is on the coaching and strategy stuff, and keeping them aware of any track blocker type wrecks. With rain now, that's become a huge part of it too, because the spotters can see the weather radar, so they can give the driver more detail about what corners rain will hit first, how hard it may be raining, etc, as well as seeing what tires everyone else is on and how they're faring during transition periods. Spotters can also help navigate traffic in multiclass races by letting drivers know what's coming behind them and where to place their car to minimize time loss.

there's a setting in iracing's ini files that allows someone to spot for you whilst still getting spotter calls from the game, which is neat :)

Can attest to the benefit of having a spotter. Having you and Steve on the virtual box for my College Series races is always such a big asset. Especially once you get into a rhythm, and you know who's covering spotting, who's coaching, who's looking at strategy, etc. amongst the driver and spotter/spotters, the whole thing becomes so much more smooth. And having some people to banter with is fun

I'm so glad you're making this video because I've been wanting to be a spotter for quite a minute now but just didn't really feel confident or know how

Great video. The best part is when you have a good spotter you trust. You end up wanting them every race. I have a friend that tries to spot me in the Daytona 500 every year and I’ll spot his Indy 500 attempt. A lot of fun. Great information for people who don’t know the ins-and-outs of oval racing.

More tips like this please! I need a lot of guidance and assistance with my strategy and in race adjustments. Perhaps you could create a PDF with best practices/strategies for fixed setup oval races (for a small fee). It would be incredibly helpful. 🏁

Great video and content as usual! I really want to spot for someone. For some reason I just love the idea of being a sim racing crew chief/engineer/spotter 😂. Too bad we can’t get live telemetry out of iRacing! Looking forward to the next video! 😊

I dont race so much like i used too (like 2 years ago) but i'm trying to get more time to race more again. That beeing said, i did notice that the the iracing spotter did change a little bit. For example in Taladega about 2 weeks ago in Trucks or Draftmaster i noticed that the spotter said car inside but there was non... the car was behind low but not even on my bumper... same thing with high (but still behind) and not on me or let alone next to me. This was in Trucks and Next-Gen (draftmaster) and i noticed it in Texas in xfinity B-Class but not that often. Anyone noticed that as well? edit: DJ, do you remember where you got that Nascar Logo shield thing behind you? would love that to have that :) greetings from germany!

I wish iRacing had an option where a "Live" spotter would be forced to use a specific location(s) for spotting, i.e. literally being in the spotter's stand.

My iracing career has been mostly in road endurance races, we all spot for each other during the race, we try to have at least 2 team members online (1 driving and 1 spotting) at all times, tho during 24hr races keeping the driver awake in the late night hours is a bonus 😉

Ty DJ. Great vid. You rock. I got up to the b class but then I was gonna have to pay a lot of bucks to race real racers. I didn't see the attraction. It winds up being quite an investment. But I could be persuaded. I'm on the fence. Should I decide to get back into sim racing, it will be a up near $1000 just to compete in iRacing. Just so bummed to drive under yellow for most of the race cause of goofballs. I go all the way back to the original Papyrus NASCAR. I just don't see the attraction to iRacing vs time and money involved. Ty for the vid.

@@jimrhea5484 I agree with you on a lot of things. Have you ever tried a league on iracing? There are tons of great league that are not perfect racing but full of people trying at least
@jimrhea5484Күн бұрын
@@DJYeeJay No I didn't. I quit iRacing when I got to the b class and went racing on rFactor. I've been in so many racing 'clans' under so many racing games that it is passe. It was the same thing over and over. Driving under yellow. I was a top car setup constructor on NT2004 along with a guy named bai. We both made carsets that everybody ran. That's how I know how much time it takes. Not looking for perfect. Just sensible. I know what I gotta do to race. And it truly is finding where to race.

Change this setting in the app.ini to give a little more room on spotter calls for a car being beside you. ........ carLowHiPadding=0.250000 ; How much clearance, front and back in meters, to give a car before reporting it as clear. I changed the padding to 0.400000 and it gives a bit more room before calling clear. This is great for racing in officials with drivers with an "unknown" ability or racing etiquette.
@rarewhiteape19 сағат бұрын
The Crew Chief app has this setting also. The default is 0.5 m and I like it that way. You can also change the time delay between you being clear and the spotter calling it. The default for this is 0.5 seconds.
