My favorite Brooksism, Hard work beats talent when talent doesnt work hard. you cant control with other guys have, you cant control what happens when youre on the bench, but you can control your shift and dont ever let anyone out work you. Rutger controls his own fate right now, hes gonna get the chance to dance while rust is hurt. Make it impossible to send you down. Im not asking for 50 from Puulijarvi, but they need the effort every game, be disruptive, score 20, but make the effort every night. My only real bitch about this team is what are they gonna do with Ryan Graves? He gets paid way too much to suck that bad and be a 5-6 defenseman but no one is going to take that contract. He has the pens by the balls right now, you basically have to play him. He absolutely can not be the weak link in the d corps, he has no other choice but to elevate his game and earn his paycheck or he will end up being Joe Melichar 2.0.

@ProfileRacing89 Melichar became the whipping boy of the pens defense and the media bagged him. The same thing will happen to Graves if he continues to suck ass.

I'm trying to park my pessimism around Dubas. I have never seen him with as high regard as everyone else in the hockey world seem to. There are things that I have liked about this team in the pre-season, but I don't have faith in Dubas making the right decision to win. One of the things that became apparent while he was in Toronto, is that he would say a lot, and not much is said. A lot of hyperboles. Craig Custance wrote a book and if you read the comments dubas made in that book you would shake your head at the common sense he positioned as enlightened speak. I don't think he is quite cut out yet to run an entire organization. And so sadly I didn't walk away from his talk yesterday with the same excitement as you, and that may be my jadedness towards Dubas. But Dubas does not install confidence in me in building a team to win, today or in the future.....time will tell. Having said that, the third line may be half descent, probably not HBK level, but better than what we had last year.

Dubas had no control over that team, and when he wanted to make a change he was fired. Shanahan runs the leafs, has for many years

@@BangHeadShotDed That is a theory people have....I don't know what evidence we have that it is true. If you are a Dubas fan you say this thing, if you are not you likely won't say that.
