I do have to admit, when Rain came back in 2014 I was so excited to listen to him again after such a long hiatus. However, his new songs for LA SONG, 30 SEXY were I guess alright but just didn't hit the mark with his previous songs. The formulated korean pop groups had evolved so much ever since he enlisted in the military and social media just shooting off in the 2010s. In my opinion, when I first saw GANG my reactions were the same as Danny. It felt like a hype song at first but then why did Rain have to do a breakdown of a slow pace beat all of a sudden. No idea but I was watching GANG again the other day and noticed so many new comments. The song just became like fine wine, a aging song that became well worth listening to again. Cringe lyrics, but I just hope Rain releases new songs with a different concept this time. At least, his proposal song The Best Present gave a breath of fresh air again haha Been a RAIN fan since 2008 :)

Exactly. Rain is fully aware of the climate of music trends. This can happen to any artist. Some songs are good, some songs are not so good. But what you shouldn't do, is curl up in a corner and hide as if your career is over. Own it like he did! Know your self-worth and successful tenure. There are other great Korean artists, but there is no one else like him. He knows what he brings to the table. He is super talented, superbly trained and skilled, very sweet, really intelligent, and still extremely handsome. And whenever he walks on a stage, every single person stands to their feet, because they know what he's done and accomplished for the Korean/K-Pop music industry as well as for the Korean culture, and they recognize that he still has what it takes to be a Super Star! 🌟 I love Rain, and will always love Rain! 🌧🌫🎶❤❤❤

Wow, I always thought Rain was highly respected and loved. I didn’t know people made fun of him. This video was surprisingly educational lol. It made me realize that a true artist is someone who has a pure love for his/her work, is confident, genuine, honest about his/her own identity, not trying to be someone, stays humble, and has work ethics. I think Rain is very inspiring. Why? Because I can see that he genuinely loves performing and being an artist. If the lyrics are the problems, he will just need to work on it. No big deal 🤷🏻♀️His dancing skill is no joke, very eye catching and cool. His voice is great. And most importantly, his confidence is off the chart. That’s a born artist right there. If this man can produce a great song, release a music video with recent quality, along with cool choreography. Haha, I bet it’s gonna be a hit. Visuals, dancing, vocals, lovable personality, strong stage presence, outstanding performer, he owns all of them. At first I clicked in this video because I was curious about RAIN. His face is wayyy too familiar to me although I haven’t listened to his music lol 😂 Now that he becomes a producer of I-LAND, so I wanted to check him out. Not gonna lie, I kinda respect him for not giving up on his career. He seems like a real man who lives his dream as an artist without a doubt/fear. See? Despite being made fun of a lot in the past and failing, he still managed come back and remained in this industry, now people start to love and recognize him more.

Ok, the world of kpop is changing very fast in SK but still he doesn't deserve to be treated like this. What's wrong with people? No wonder many Kpop idols nowadays having mental health issues. What happen to the word "respect"? Now i feel sad for those people, not for Rain. This actually show how bad those people are, not Rain. So sad...and shame on y'all
@nataliepham90424 жыл бұрын
@@tammyyams6859 although I wasn’t his fan because I wasn’t into kpop back then, but I could easily see how passionate he is towards performing and his fans. He’s wayyy better than those famous artists who turned out to be jerks and ended up in prison, ehem... Btw, I don’t think this video was disrespectful though. I think he just tried to state what the general public thought of RAIN. In the end of the video, Danny’s messages were encouraging and kinda showed respects towards RAIN, I think.
@motro13014 жыл бұрын
As a south korean, the reason why this was a meme in the first place was not because we didnt respect his career in any form. The reason was that high expectations of him around the country were not met since he began tobecome out of touch. Also even when rain effect not became a hit that he initially thought he was going to be he resonded to the feedbacks of his fan base. But gang was against everything that he claimed to be standing for which made the discrepancy much more notable. Its a known fact that if he was perfectly nobody, people would not even care.
@tammyyams68594 жыл бұрын
@@nataliepham9042 I so appreciate your opinion Rose but I feel the title alone is disrespectful...not too mention he kept saying "self indulgent ". LOL! Self Indulgent?! I want to hear a song nowadays that's does not have any self indulgence in it. And if "Gang" was such a bad song... what is the difference between now and 3 years ago? He made this song in 2017...not too mention all of the other songs prior to that. So why make jokes, videos etc now? If it was such a bad song...as well as his other songs...why wasn't this mentioned after his last comeback? So that's why I feel this video along with all the other videos are disrespectful.

Rain and Big Bang were famous back then. Girls in my school were crazy shit for them. These days Kpop is trending because of this young generation. Rain viewed artists like Usher as his mentor. When he came to America, he HAD to take on a more arrogant persona because our media tried to marginalize him by constantly referring to him, TO HIS FACE even, as "Korea's Justin Timberlake". He earned respect here by verbally rejecting that with the confidence Americans expect from a hip hop artist which, at that time, he was.

This deserves more attention....even though this song came out several years after he first started getting "picked up" by American Media (I mean, the Stephen Colbert skit was in 2007 I think?) it had only grown and this was likely still very fresh in his mind. You can see a big difference in his persona and I think a lot of that had to do with his exposure in the US, for better or worse. It just came across as a weird hybrid that not too many people could readily relate to.

Tbh his lyrics are not worse than so many american artists lyrics and I see no one complaining about and criticising them as much as bad/cringey non english speaking artists lyrics which is kind of sad. I mean if you are not a fan of "cringey" lyrics than ok that's your thing but like Gang's lyrics are like 99% of rap lyrics and the others weren't that bad either? Better than those great american hits that just repeat one or a few words over and over again slapped on top of a repetitive beat. And he really can dance and his voice is great and the songs don't sound that bad either? Imo all that criticism seems a little unfair

Agreed. I don't like the lyrics (and the trap feel of "Gang", but that's just because I don't like trap and contemporary hip-hop), but a lot of rappers today have much worse, more self-indulgent lyrics (like saying "Versace" over and over again for the entire song). Maybe it's just kinda funny that Rain is doing it because he clearly doesn't have the same life background as Cardi B. or whatever. It's like he's just trying to follow the latest music trends, but it doesn't seem authentic coming from him.

Well, as a Korean “idol” he was attacked immediately after his relationship was revealed in 2013 and he made his last album fully aware of his situation - he was not an idol any more, but a man who planned to have a family and protect them from the attention of media and the haters on the internet. Gang reflects this - everybody had still high expectations from a “worldstar” (a name given to him by Korean media, not himself) and the “Asian dance king”. And he knew he won’t get the love he used to as a married man now. The song is a mix of the way the media presented him (at least all over Asia) and his awareness that his time as an “idol” has passed. The “idol culture” is based on imaginary relationship between the “idol” and his/her fans. He made the album not to disappoint his fans who asked him not to quit. He’s actually pretty cool - and still has it on the stage.

Hard work is ALL he has ever known and that in my book demands so much respect. I totally agree that Gang was not nearly some of his best stuff, but the amazing thing is, is that as the legend he is and at the age he is, HE IS STILL LEARNING! He accepted all the jokes and ridicule like a total boss, demanding again HUGE respect! After putting down his ego, why is he still viewed as cringey? Why is it that when he does ANYTHING a bit out of character its cringey? Just because he’s “old”? Just because he has a bit of whimsy? Just because he goes out of the box and out of his comfort zone to prove a point? His worst crime is Gang? Being cringey? He is still hot af and he still dances and sings like a mofo! Rain was the first Korean artist I ever heard, sitting in a car in Connecticut (US). Back in the day my sister got the CD from a friend of hers who heard it playing in a store in NY's China town. That is how music traveled back then. Shipping on CD's was so expensive that if you did not live near one of these places in the big city you were shit out of luck. Anyway, I remember thinking, damn he could sing and asked who he was? It was the FIRST time I (a black woman) ever heard of Korean music EVER. I remember being excited when he first appeared on US tv (talk show). I remember being upset when Hollywood tried to type cast him in an action film. Even last year I heard a news reporter in Britain talk about how amazing his concert was when he came their. So it makes me so SAD to know, that I didn't know how much Korea disrespected him. Damn, this hurts. He introduced me (and many others of that gen) to this whole world of Kpop while living on the opposite side of the world. Everything isn't about what 3rd gen kpop fans know (and don't know) cuz I could argue MOST of the idols who you cover here currently are NOT popular or EVEN KNOWN in the West by the average person other than BTS. Note: The similarities are not lost on me that Korea was cold to BTS before appearing on the AMAs. and BBAs. And even after, still couldn't bother to look up their music or know their names (yeah those street interviews by you and Asian Boss are enlightening to say the least). Yes the west knows KPOP now, but most do NOT know any of these people's names or groups you cover AT ALL. What will their legacy be in the west in 10-15 yrs, cuz just going to a Kcon aint it. But yes, movie goers (back then) knew Rain, even if they didn't know he was Kpop. Can't believe I'm legit offended by this disrespect and he is not even MY countrymen, LMAO, let me chill. All I'm saying is this; Korea needs to give their stars (Rain, BOA, PSY, Wonder Girls, & BTS) their flowers while they are living, and not wait for them to die, or laugh when you humiliate them. What the hell? This is just sad!

깡 really made Rain look like he was having some kind of mid-life crisis, wanting to prove that he isn't going to be some washed up dad but cool and hip. LOL I am glad he could laugh it off now.

I definitely see that he has lots of confident to be able to come out with what he has. Also a kpop artist who has maintained his appearance for so long. He's inspired lots of other younger artists too. It's unfortunate for these events to have happened. But again, he still inspired others and others still looked up to him. That's pretty awesome.

I think he is still an amazing artist. Music taste changes and trends are unpredictable, but the fact that he can still release his music with his identity is commendable. Just imagine being an artist for so long, and has smooth pace in your career. He doesn't need to prove anything, seriously. If you like his music, go on listen to him but if you don't, you're not required to listen to him.

Wow Korea is harsh. Even the government publicly laugh about it?? 😂 Gang's lyrics are in fact really cringe but his prior music isn't that bad I think. Am I the only one who don't mind his past music? Especially rainism is a bop🎶😍

I don't see any other country asking for him, do you? He had his chance to break through the American market but failed with Ninja Assassin. Rain's fame peaked during the mid 2000's to the early 2010's. If there was a demand for this talent in other countries I'm pretty sure he'd be there right now working and performing. He's a dance music artist in his late 30''s and I don't see him just singing without dancing because he lacks the vocal talent when compared to other Korean solo vocalists. He should just focus on acting from now on any maybe hold a concert every couple of years for his fans as an event. And btw wtf he's a product of Korea. If he was born in any other country he might of not had the same chance. Rain has talent but he was only able refine, develop, and showcase his talent and skills thanks to Park Jin Young. There's a reason why his career started deteriorating after he left JYP.

word, bring him back to America. We love him.
@bigstunna20494 жыл бұрын
The US market appreciates matured rnb singers more than the Korean industry. Rain can speak English so if he had american lyricists and producers hed be a hit over here. Also ninja assassin while failing in the box office it has hit a cult classic status now and it's always on Netflix so people still know him for that.
