The scary part is that the All Star team had largely never played together vs a team with years of experience playing together. This was a poorly constructed team, seemingly designed to give accolades to a bunch of older players as a final Olympics rather than win the Gold. Not sure if this was arrogance, but the team was very lucky to get the Gold. The team snubbed a bunch of really good players to keep the team intact and they are incredibly fortunate it didn't cost them. Still, winning by one point in the finals while being heavily favored should get USA basketball to take a serious look at what happened.

As soon as I saw that, I remember thinking, her system was going to prove biased and even racist. But according to Cheryl Swoops, "Blacks can't be racist." I can't imagine any one actually saying that, much less believing it. One thing for sure, the women connected to these USA Olympics were going for one more, they were going for the glory of having 8 gold medals, and they were NOT going to share the record with anyone outside the inner-circle. @claire40062 ай бұрын
because she was UCONN!!!!!! the golden girls club!!!!!! Also, prior to this year, the selection committee used to place a rookie on Team USA to give a young rising star some international experience as a way of building for the future. This year, we had to have experience, we had to have dinosaurs - hey at least they kept the thieves from stealing the bench. This year's team - the youngest player was 26. By 2028, the youngest veteran of Team USA will be 30. Not smart. Just petty and quite obviously a big mistake.

@claire40062 ай бұрын
@@RichardStrachan-f7e Stewart was an obvious choice for Team USA as a rising star. No argument from me. For the same reason, Clark was an obvious choice this year. She may not have played for UConn or won a title but she was instrumental in bringing Iowa to the Championship game two years in a row. And if recall correctly, she broke some pretty big scoring records during her FOUR years at Iowa. She was twice named Naismith player of the year and twice (2023 and 2024) named the Honda-Broderick Cup Outstanding Female Collegiate Athlete of the Year. Clark is in excellent company there. Among WNBA players to be awarded the Honda Cup are Aliyah Boston, Breanna Stewart, Britney Griner, Maya Moore who won twice, Candace Parker, Chamique Holdsclaw, Jackie Chiles, Rebecca Lobo, Jennifer Rizzotti, Dawn Staley, Teresa Weatherspoon and the great Cheryl Miller. Curiously absent from this distinguished list are Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird - possibly because while talented they were on totally stacked UConn Teams. Tennessee also seems fairly underrepresented during the great Pat Summit years. During DT's time at UConn, Honda winners were from other sports - Track and Field, Softball, Swimming and Diving, Volleyball.
