This line-up should have gone under a different name. I think they would have been more successful. Vince Neil is the voice of Motley Crue even though John is a more talented singer. I think die hard Motley fans wereupset because it wasn't Vince. I remember having tickets to see them in 1994 and the show getting cancelled because not enough tickets were sold. I was really bummed.

Feels like the first iteration of slashs snake pit. John Corabi's voice is killer. I like Motley, seen them live, but if you are being honest, lyrically this is as strong or stronger than anything else they wrote. It has a much rootsier stonesier vibe. I wish this sound would have caught on a bit more in mid90s along with what van halen, aforementioned snakepit, neuotic outsiders, kenny wayne sheppard etc. brought to the table. It would have been an awesome transformation of 80s sound evolving with heavier sounds of seattle. It would have been an awesome counterpoint to sounds coming out of britain. The sound doesnt date vs. Numetal and pop punk that took over.

...SONG OF THE DAY!!!

decent footage (definitely worth watching!), great tune, mostly great performance but... as a fan of the Corabi era who never got the chance to see the band live, I must admit that, at least live, John's vocals let me down a little...

His issues were mostly singing some of Vince's songs. Even tho Vince can't fucking sing for shit, he had back in the day a higher register than John, as Corabi's voice was heavier and raspier. If you keep John singing in the style he is used to, which is more heavy metal/Hard Rock, then he can keep his voice in tune and fine through the whole show. I mean if you want to see him there is an amazing concert of Dead Dissies of 2018 with a fucking dream lineup in which he is kicking ass the whole show through. And we are talking about Corabi being 59 years old.

Corabi even brought out a better drummer in Tommy. And Tommy has always been one of the only great musicians in Motley. Not that drummers are really musicians of course :) But Tommy was always the one who was truly great at what he did. Mick was decent, but Nikki and Vince were both pretty terrible musicians. Nikki knew how to keep them at the forefront of the scene in the 80's, how to set a trend, and was a good songwriter back then too. But even today he's probably the worst bass player in the whole music industry. Can't even play a string on the upstroke, and even playing open strings (which he does throughout most of their songs, especially A and E strings) he misses notes or his timing is terrible. Corabi brought out something far far better in all of them, even Nikki's playing wasn't so bad (though I have a suspicion that Corabi likely played at least some of the bass tracks on the album). But Tommy's drum tracks on that album were just incredible. He sounded like a far more technical drummer than he had ever been. Had more of a John Bonham/Keith Moon/Ginger Baker style than his usual mostly standard beats he played through most of motley's other songs. Boy I wish they hadn't sold out and brought Vince back. This band would be one of the top rock bands on the scene today if they had stuck to their guns and kept Corabi

Nikki didn't know how to play during the first to albulm but he busted his ass to learn music and how to play better. He's a smart guy he know to learn from other. Go listen some lives he play just fine, go see the live in tacoma, the dude was wasted because of drugs and he was still playing right on the time. He's maybe not steve harris but he's perfect for Mötley Crüe. And go listen some grooveS of the dr feelgood albulm nikki was really great on this album
@w0bbl3r

@@billfraser1491 Alright, if that's all true, and his bass playing was "fine", then how come it's not now, when he's almost 30 years more experienced (or should be), is clear and sober of all substances, and claims to be a more dedicated musician? Go listen to that show at some european festival they played, where they didn't have any of their backing tracks and all they had was the auto-tune for Vince. And the mix had Nikki's bass way high. He was missing notes on open strings, and even frettings notes he shouldn't have, hitting the wrong notes altogether. It's a mess And he still can't play the strings on the upstroke. You will never find a single video of him doing that. Anywhere

@@billfraser1491 I'll try to find it, but I saw it a couple years ago. I think it was from either 2008 or 2015, I can't remember. And it was some open air festival in europe. I mean the sound mix was terrible, and without backing tracks you can hear how Mick doesn't sound so great (with all his distortion it just sounds horrible to hide he struggles now), but Nikki's bass is front and centre. And it shows how bad he really is. And considering most of their songs just rely on him hitting open E and A strings through most of the song, it's amazing that after 40+ years he still doesn't get it right. I'll try to find it and post a link here if I get it
@w0bbl3r

@@billfraser1491 Well look at that, found it pretty easy. It was neither 2008 or 2015, it was a mix of those 2 numbers; 2005. Rock AM ring The sound is awful, Vince has hardly any auto-tune, there's no backing tracks for guitar and bass, and Nikki has his bass levels far too high. Meaning you can actually hear him playing. And it's just horrible to hear. This is why they like to host their own shows, where they have full control of the audio going out, so they can have a ton of backing tracks and mountains of auto-tune for Vince. Like more auto-tune than Justin Boober or Myley Whorus (who just might turn out to be the same person, by the way :)) kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJSrn3qIjcqfmsk

I agree with the corabi fans, corabi is a much stronger and better singer live. It bothers the fuck out of me when Vince leap frogs over lyrics, and sings incoherently. Me wonders how they get him to sing the whole song in the studio?
