@DktheWelder2 жыл бұрын
The 3 wheeler was cool but it’s more of a gimmick really I think the only advantage is it’s lighter . Also when you turn the whole thing leans and losses a lot of traction, I might have to go to independent rear suspension but it will be heavier and need to be really strong to hold the massive rear wheels , more testing needed I think 👍

@FixedAFT2 жыл бұрын
love it. one thing tho. how is the front suspension holding up with just a dampener? shocks don't lift weight. they do a little when they are new but once worn in they wont push out anymore. you need some type of spring to lift the suspension, and the shock itself slows the movement of the spring to stop bouncing. they work in tandem. spring lifts weight. dampener (shock) restricts the spring from moving to abruptly. like a braking effect
@FixedAFT2 жыл бұрын
you can buy shock with a spring around them. they're called coil-overs or sold as load springs for the rear shock replacement on trucks
@DktheWelder2 жыл бұрын
They are air shocks there is like an air bag inside them that does all the spring work, like a mount bike shock I can pump them up or let them down depending on how high I want it they work pretty well , coil overs would be better for hitting jumps but these were free so I will stick with them until they blow👍

I’m not as good as you and haven’t even tried building one. I do however keep thinking of the old Volkswagen dual trailing arm front suspension, except the upper arm connects over the top of the front wheel and the lower connects above the axle inside the rim dish. Not really what you were looking for, I keep looking for clearance.
@DktheWelder2 жыл бұрын

@FixedAFT2 жыл бұрын
Some ppl have said it but i think the solid axle broke because of the wheels speed difference when turning combined with the large tires (heavy+Traction). In order to cut a hard turn the inner tire must break traction with the ground. This needs to happen because, within that turn, the inner tire travels less distance than the outer to move around center.. short an simple something has to give. smaller tires would break traction sooner saving your axle. To run such a wide tire, traction is difficult to lose. Having an open diff through the turn would allow each wheel to travel at different speeds, preventing the excess torsion on the axle
@DktheWelder2 жыл бұрын
Yeah exactly, I have just built another axel that I’m almost certain won’t break even if I’m turning on the road but we will see

An independent setup, would be a solution. Another solution is to make the swing arm, hold the motor, and have a single pivot point, in the middle, with a panhard bar, on the rear. Then your chain won't fall off, with the flex. It is a simple modification, on a go kart, with a rear swing arm, for people, wanting to go rock crawling, with a go kart. But in your case, with the engine not already on the swing arm, not so easy. You would need to make a longer swing arm. Pretty much starting over, but not 100%. I understand completely, if you don't consider this option.
@DktheWelder2 жыл бұрын
The motor on swing arm is a lot of unsprung weight . Independent would be good but will need to be strong, the swing arm setup should work once the axle is sorted . The chain came off because the axle had moved, what is a pan hard bar? Thanks for the comment
