I'm glad that someone with a big enough platform has pointed this out....I've wondered for years why the war on drugs started to suddenly lose steam once the drug of choice became opioids....
@glorymosbyfloyd38783 жыл бұрын
Easy answer The suburbs were affected by the opioids more than the Urban areas
@eddieme23 жыл бұрын
Because the drug dealers for opiods is Purdue. They have the big lawyers to pay for settlements and treatments instead of going to jail
@lela6583 жыл бұрын
@@eddieme2 Do not be fooled. Since their children are sick and dying from the 'opioid addiction epidemic'....(and of course you know ifs considered an epidemic for the same reasoning) the fed gov has allotted billions and granted every state on a local level substance tx and allow patients/clients repetitively for as many times as needed to enter inpatient and various levels of care for recovery. All they need is a medicaid insurance card. So yeah, the settlements and tx instead of going to jail is getting them the statewide tx they need in a transitional manner. Think about it, do you hear about a whole lotta opioid & fetanyl drug bust ...not even cocaine like you use to as it's even considered an opioid these days. 🤦🏽♀️
@Akilahfoye3 жыл бұрын
It also lost steam because illicit drug use in certain communities decreased. When crack trade was peak, cocaine users were not jailed. In the 60s blk people were being jailed for opioid/heroin in Maryland. So I'm not sure if the type of drug was the cause for the change in perspective or the change in communities disproportionately affected.

Been saying the same shit as a 80s baby, 90s kid. Early 90s as a kid in Philly I can remember the sidewalks being filled colorful caps. Nobody came to clean them up, gov didn’t care we(children) were growing up in environments like that smh, nobody was on the corners trying to help or handing out supplies 🤔I grew up with crack heads in the alley not fresh grass and sunshine it changes the way you look at the world. Fast forward today they are doing all they can to help these ppl but it’s like where was this same energy for our people who were suffering? If folks don’t see this blatant disregard for Indigenous peoples as a whole I really don’t know what else can be done smh.

Same ole crap. I remember the 80s/90s aswell. Families were being SHATTERED at a spiritual level, while the majority went to see movies like new Jack city and jungle fever and thought that the drug life was just "part of the culture". Even heroine was dismissed like this, until the "suburban kids" transitioned from one opioid to another (the pain pills in moms medicine cabinet to heroine down on Kensington and Allegheny). In the last decade, I've see more billboards and commercials about drug rehabs then I EVER saw during the HIEGHT of the crack epidemic. EVER. We know what that is.... It's insane....Virtually no empathy or understanding, UNTIL their sons get beaten into a coma or their daughters ends up at trap houses on their knees or backs. It's a real life f**king horror story. That said.... Anyone, with any organs that could pass for a heart and a brainstem, who's gone through the pain of addiction, or WATCHED a loved one SUFFER through that type of HELL, wouldn't wish it on ANYONE... no matter how ignorant or privileged they might be.

It not only makes me angry, it brings tears to my eyes. The people who are alcoholics and take drugs are sick and need help. What is wrong with our country that we don’t see that and understand that they don’t want to be dependent on drugs and alcohol? They are ashamed and need compassion and help. This touches everyone’s family in some way. Help your family members who need your help in any way you can. Just speaking in general as a recovering chronic drug abuser. Clean since 2018! If you never tried drugs then you clearly wouldn't understand. It's actually, a loss of focus and spiritual consciousness. Addiction is like stepping away from Nature and God or Oneness. You aren't aware of any danger until you OPEN your mind to that prescribed knowledge. Then, you learn and usually become or realize that you are ADDICTED. I moved past this by reaching out for help; getting support from all levels, family, social workers, doctors, psychiatry and faith. You can beat addiction. When you reroll life, afterward you realize reality.

So "crackheads" are blacks only? The crack pipe story is misinformation. You don't have the numbers DL. Yes Opiods are affecting the white US population and many have died due to their sheer numbers. But do you know what population is right behind in second for opioid deaths!?!? Blacks and we only make up a little over 12% of the US population. So it is not a white only thing. Those Narcan shots are saving black people as well. Look at the SAMHSA study.

The real culprit that should be targeted is that in communities of minorities at local "methadone clinics" that they are more than likely to receive low doses of methadone or just be given buprenorphine. While in white communities they are way more likely to receive methadone at higher doses. The studies are out there and show glaring racial disparities. Just need to talk about the correct information.
