I have used these kits for a few years. They come in many styles. See W8AOR.com or check his ebay ads. Installation is pretty easy on most receivers, amps etc. The example (Hallicrafters S-40B) in this video did not have a standard chassis opening, so modification was required. Scotts kits normally pop right into the standard chassis opening & mounts. With the increasing price of electronic components, this is a very inexpensive & reliable solution. I have installed many of them into vintage radios, no problems. Yes, they dont look like the original but function great! If you have any questions or need repair to your classic radio, contact d-labelectronics.com or / dlab_electronics

an additional benefit of this adapter is not only cost. With the adapter a person can now use 105C rated caps from modern production techniques. Merry Christmas.

Thanks Terry. That is the 3-in-1 V2 board to replace the standard flange mounted 1" twist tab capacitors. The 3-in-1 V3 was designed to replace the chassis slotted 1" multi-section capacitor. No need to punch out the hole. The turrets fit inside. There are 5 board designs to fit the various 1" and 1 3/8" twist tab caps. Will get some down over to Terry.

I have used these in a couple of receivers I recapped; they are relatively easy to use and are a great alternative.

I have gutted cans and restuffed them by using the original terminals on the bottom. Opened the can with a tubing cutter or saw. Gutted the old gunk out and cleaned inside. I drilled holes in the fibre base and ran the new cap leads through those and soldered at the base of the old terminals. You can wire the negatives together inside the can for one lead coming out. IF the can is the common negative it is more work though. But in my Drake standalone power supply I just ditched the cans and made a circuit board to mount the new caps onto. It does not have to look original inside but be practical.

Looks like a great product to replace older and less common combination capacitors.

Actually I would cut the can open near the base so I could access terminals and clean out the upper part. But sometimes there is leakage between the terminals even with the guts removed which requires alot of cleaning to eliminate. I have used aluminium speed tape to close cans after restuffing. But if it has the cardboard cover that will conceal all the work when put back on.

I like this solution a lot. I suppose some folks may balk at the “doesn’t look original” result. I suppose they hear with their eyes. 😊

You would think some company would make a unit with 4 mounting tabs, with the can body slightly larger so the up to three 500 volt caps would fit inside. I think this would be very popular with amp and radio restorers. Especially so if several sizes were made.

In some cases you can open the old capacitor, remove the internals and put something like this inside. I personally have different experiences. Sometimes the insides are all caked in.

This would be the choice of the Tech. recapping. Terry knows his stuff. Should the OEM filter cap can be in good condition, open it up - carefully - & clean it up. OEM appearance is everything. Terry - your Vid's are interesting, I've been an Electronics Tech. Over 40 year's. Let's keep in mind, this vid. involves an easy process & D Lab Terry gives good teaching advice for those willing to learn. Patience is a virtue! Have an Electronics Merry & Happy Holidays... ☮️🍕📻🎙️

I save the can if I decide it needs to keep the same appearance or if there is no place under the chassis with room for the new filter caps. Which does happen in some tight radios.

@@TomSherwood-z5l This is fairly common in tight chassis. Sometimes we just gotta do what we gotta do in the best way we gotta do it. The end result must be correct.

I always do this if the cap is above the chassis. It is such an eyesore to see some modern junk on the chassis immediately when you take a peek at the back. Either leave the original can and disconnect it, or restuff it with modern caps.

Scott developed this special capacitor board kit for replacing can type e-caps. It would be tricky with some metal grindings if you don't have the 1 1/8" Greenlee chassis punch to enlarge the hole. So just beware of that. You could use a shot glass and using hot glue and glue it to the undersides and grind the edges of the hole away from the top. Tell us how that goes if you want to try that!

Beware that in the old days lazy guys would just solder new caps onto the old ones. IF the old caps had dried up and were not shorting, it probably worked. But it is bad practice and you should watch out for that. Although if the guts were removed from the can it would probably not matter.

@@TomSherwood-z5l Soldering the new cap's onto the old cap's without clipping the terminal's or lead's is lack of proper knowledge, a rush job & just wrong or all 3. All should take pride in any & all work we're responsible for. You'll sleep better! 💤💤

nice but a solution for a not existing problem why not opening the old caps and solder new caps inside to the old terminals makes it more original ... imho a useles solution
