After 5 months of use i can confirm that the DLE20 is a great engine. Never unwished stop or failures.

@Lightspeed1441 It actually did pretty well. I did not have a good control on the throttle control and that was causing some problems, especially at low idle. The vibrations were changing the throttle setting. I keep telling myself to design a throttle control and never quit get it done.

@MrLeonard148 The Crankcase is 1.95". This is the width you would have to have for the engine to clear an engine mount. The width including the mounting rails is 2.8".

@microdon2 I installed it in a Twist 60. It replaced an OS .91FX with a MACs muffler. It performs great.

@MrLeonard148 Your call on that one. I would consider it roughly equivalent to a 120 2-stroke.

I hear led zeppelin d'yer maker in background. That makes the video GREAT!

@microdon2 I have not decided yet. No muffler so it was a little loud.

Very helpful, thanks. Quick question, the spring coil which goes between the spark plug and the connector, is that really required? My metal spark plug connector does not seem to fit tightly onto the spark plug if the spring coil is in.
@waynemia07tx3 жыл бұрын
It should be there. If not, you could have intermittent connection. Make sure you press it on completely. May take considerable pressure. Also, correct plug?

Great video - what is your opinion on the sound? Does the DLE20 or RCGF 21cc twin sound better? -Thanks a lot-

Hi, can you tell me please the width of the engine , because i find two diferent measurments on diferent manuals ,is it 110mm or 60mm ...thanks

do you thing on the kyosho spitfire 90 this engine is ideal.
@MasboyRC5 жыл бұрын
Better you use cordless drill to start the engine, more easy and safe.
@waynemia07tx5 жыл бұрын
I prefer to use the stick as in the video. I have electric starters though. If an engine is tuned well, it will start easily with just a flip or two with the stick.

Doesn't DLE advise breaking in on an airplane? Looks like you proved that break in can be done either way!

Not exactly a break-in. The smaller engines I will do an initial run on a stand. The 50cc engines or bigger, I only run on airframes. There is not as much vibration on the smaller engines and I don't have extended run times at high RPMs.

thats a long propeller what size? I have a DLE RA20cc in the box. Do I need to tune the carburetor (air & fuel) while break in? thanks
@waynemia07tx7 жыл бұрын
It is a 16 x 6 Master Air Screw. I did not need to tune mine for break-in. You may need to adjust it slightly if it is not running smoothly. The manual has good instructions.

Morris I need to use a fuel pump on the engine? thank you.

Rodrigo Cardoso No, it has a pumped carb.

How long is the total break-in period?
@waynemia07tx10 жыл бұрын
I don't remember. You can download the manual at Tower Hobbies. I run a tank or so and start flying them. They break in in the air.
@MrElGeraldo10 жыл бұрын
Ok thanks. It says 3-5 gallons on the manual. I'm asking as I've just ordered a DLE-20 for a group project at my University. We are building an autonomous UAV and I'm in charge of propulsion. This is the first time I've done anything like this so I have so many questions as you can imagine. What type of oil did you use for break in? Mineral oil? I know you cant use a synthetic oil.
@waynemia07tx10 жыл бұрын
MrElGeraldo Oil is a big can or worms. Don't use mineral oil. I use Lawnboy for the first gallon and then switch to a commercial 2 stroke pre-mix oil. I use Amzoil Professional but there are others available. You can also look at the Desert Aircraft site for some input on oils.
@waynemia07tx10 жыл бұрын
MrElGeraldo Also, it will take 3 - 5 gallons to completely break it in. You don't run it on the ground though. Most of that is in the air flying. I also don't break these in on a stand like the video. There is too much vibration. I just started it to make sure all is working before installation.
@MrElGeraldo10 жыл бұрын
Oh right ok. The only thing is I am requird to do quite a few tests on the engine itself including thrust/rpm etc tests on ground for a report before its installed in the airframe. I am thinking of doing 2-3 hours of tests 3-4 days a week is that too much? if so is there anyway i can cool the engine while its on ground?
@rglgatortail13 жыл бұрын
sounds terriable, try putting the muffler on it and maybe it will run better but without the muffler it sounded like crud
