Dennis, I am really glad we are done haying for this year. I am watching you bale, there is too much smoke outside here in Oregon to be out there anyway. We were evacuated from our place the last two days, but are back home today. Will be starting the irrigation pump to supply the drip system in the filbert orchards later today and maybe some shop projects and I have no interest getting out into all of that smoke. Good luck beating the weather! Nick, North West Farmer

Thank you for the awesome video. After watching the end where you videoed you’re dad running the baler and it showed the gate not shutting all the way on the accumulator, I know now when I took mine out for the first time why I had some single bales out in the field the other day. I guess my gate didn’t shut back a couple of times. Other than that and getting my bales the right length it has worked perfect for me. I’m loving it.

I was out the first time with my, new to me, rotor rake. It does make a lovely swath but at 22 ft at its smallest, she's a bit wide for first cut lol. I'd agree with storing it inside, I bought mine cheap as I think one of the main bearings had sized up. As the last owner used it, the crown wheel stripped the teeth of the input shaft

Always had a guy riding the accumulator which sucks, but watching your videos, and how your explaining things keeps me wanting to figure this thing out. I knew a major hay grower in CA many years ago now, but in the 60s through 80s his entire hay fields crew was various Mexican National (legal alien) contractors. They were mostly men with several women who managed the camp dwellings and kitchen, they were all a great bunch to work around. Most spoke English, and a few were children of the legal migrant labor force from the 50s-60s who could barely speak Spanish. We're talking 8,900 acres all told, and these 25 or so professional campesino's used my friends equipment to tend 2 or 3 types of hay, mostly for feed lots and horse tracks. I don't remember the numbers but I have seen 30 or 40 double trailers being pulled out of there per day all tarped tight like giant billboards with the company logo sewn into the tarps. I worked a little hay 45 acres in high school, I like what you do more than that big business sort of thing.

Maybe that's why you had 3 laying out on their own-- door didn't close on an incline perhaps?? Since it's not spring loaded you might have to add a cantilever counterweight sticking out behind/above the door on a piece of steel so that when the door trips and the bales push it open to slide out, when the bales are gone the weight gives her a little extra "push" down and forward to latch good on inclines... might be just the ticket if she keeps doing it... either that or a spring to help pull the door back forward with a little extra oomph... Later and good luck it's a nice lookin' rig!! OL J R :)

@@DLHFarms Yep that's what I'd do... Let gravity work for you... That's what the Soviets did to swing the gantries back on their R-7 rocket (Soyuz rocket today) when it took off... It was held up by the four gantry "petals" till thrust built up enough to lift off... Soon as it started up weight of the rocket was off the gantry "petals" their counterweights pulled to back away from the rocket to get out of the way while it took off... Simplest is always best IMHO!! Nice looking rig 👌 😄 OL J R

Thanks for the video! Do you have a moisture sensor built in to the baler? How do you know the moisture content you say in the video? When you talk about spraying, what are you spraying, proprionic acid or something? Wouldn't the hay need to be dryer to start out with to spray it, so it doesn't catch fire in the barn? I guess I've been away a long time! I hope you won't mind explaining a little. I appreciate it! Thanks again!

Yes i have a moisture monitor testing the bales in real time. Yes I’m spraying crop saver which is proprionic acid it works of hay up to 30 percent moisture if the correct amount is applied. The hay I baled that day was as high as 24 percent and the hay turned out excellent.

You come on and help me and we’ll do it the old way. It’s not me that’s lazy buddy I’m still doing it, I did 2000 bales last weekend by myself, because there is no help out there nobody wants to buck bales anymore. There is no way I could have got all that hay up by myself without this equipment.

He’s not lazy. Just like myself can’t find anyone that wants to work. I used to get high school boys to throw on the wagon and I stacked. When I needed a break we stopped. So I didn’t work them that hard. Also, paid them $20/hr, which I thought was good. Haven’t hired anyone in 3 years. Just my son an myself putting up around 4000 bales/year.

But it works just as good, it’s easier to pull, easier to maneuver, easier on the baler, easier to get busted bales out of, it easier to clean out at the end of the day, has less moving parts to break, has less springs to break or shake loose, it doesn’t drag hay on the tailgate going down hill, it has flashing lights to help move down the road safer. If it’s engineers correctly it doesn’t have to be heavier to hold up and the company will stand behind it if it doesn’t.
@Xerdoz
@Xerdoz 3 жыл бұрын
@@DLHFarms Well if it works and you're happy, I guess that's fine. I just don't like everything being made cheaply. I'm not so sure about the longevity but hopefully you'll have no issues. Atleast the maneuverability is better since it's a bit shorter.
