One of the golf courses I do work for just picked one of those Massey 5700s. Got to take it for a spin today to trench in some fiber optic conduit with a neat 3 point trencher attachment. Worked like a charm, real nice tractor, and sure beat the heck out of the junk United Rentals dropped off.

We ended up getting a Kuhns AE18 accumulator (18 bales on end / stack), and a tie-grabber for our MF5713 SL. We can get 432 bales per wagon! We took OLF's advice and got those wagon quick hitches which makes running around the fields easy. We are looking at getting another simple grabber for our JCB teleskid for unloading wagons & stacking high in the shed. Then 1 person is baling, 2nd person is loading/hauling wagons, and a 3rd person is unloading/stacking. I HATE COYOTES! Take care my friend!

It almost seems like just dragging a trailer behind the baler and having someone stack would have been quicker than dealing with the accumulator shenanigans. Would have caught the bad bales quicker, too, and saved a lot of time there.
@DLHFarms

Problem one with that is I have know one to help me 90 percent of the time. Problem two if you load them by hand you have to unload them by hand which means when you do 1000 bales a day it takes an army of people that I do not have. I've done over 1500 bales in one day with just my wife running the baler and just me getting bales up and taking them to the barn. I can get up around 800 bales by myself with this system in one afternoon and I can unload them all by myself without help. Sorry but I think I'll keep doing it my way.

Hey there! New Sub here. I grew up on a dairy/family farm in iowa. Well my cousins had the farm, I would help in the summers. It was a great experience. They built a Grade A dairy barn in 1971. At that time we changed from square bales to chopped hay. We had covered wagons to cart it back to the barns or silos and blow it up there. Do they chop hay anymore? When we baled square bales we had one or two guys on the wagon behind the baler stacking. I just wonder if the way of collecting the bales with the fork you use is more or less efficient. I am no expert and was glad as a 12 year old boy to run the machinery and combines and the like I got a chance to use. We worked hard together and it was a good life (for the teenager who didn’t have to worry about paying the bills that is haha).

I grew up on my grandpa's dairy farm and we used to do the same chop grass and and use covered wagons and blow it into harvest stores. Lots of dairy's still do that but my grandpa got out of the dairy business in about 1999. Thanks for the sub 👍

DLH Farms Yeah, the dairy business was pretty good in the 1970’s and they thought the farm would never be out of the family. Today, the farm is no more in the family and that is sad. I enjoyed those days of farming. I mean, as a 10 year old I was driving big tractors. We used to have a Farmall H that had no battery and we had to crank it which was okay as long as the kick back didn’t hit me in the jaw. Haha. I never rated a cab in those days, but that was okay. So did you learn about farming by doing or did you take some schooling got know the “why” behind all you do? Thanks for answering these questions.

@@brentjohnson6654 I learned about farming from my dad and grandpa. Question for anyone, When it states the yield is 5 tons per acre, is that per cutting or per year? Thank you!
@DLHFarms
@DLHFarms 6 жыл бұрын
If it's not stated to be per year then it would have to be assumed that it's per cutting.
