1:18 - The Ady Gil butted right into the SM2. Bravo. You can tell by how they gunned the engine right before the collision, to make sure they hit the SM2, without getting totally trashed. Also cool how the Sea Shepard at 4:55 tried to tell the SM2 not to rescue anybody. Wouldn't have worked well for their narrative of how innocent they were
@crimsonfire6932 Жыл бұрын
I think Pete explained that he recognized the Shonan Maru was gonna ram them so he turned the engines back on to go in reverse to avoid them, but he didn’t have time to put it in reverse so he ended up making the collision worse. Either way, that’s very different from deliberately crashing into the shonan maru. This is the Shonan Maru’s fault no matter how you slice it. Ady Gil had fallen back from every other boat in the area and was dead in the water. The Shonan Maru decided they needed to go hose them down for some reason, which just wasn’t necessary in that moment, and got way too close to the Ady Gil when they had every opportunity to steer clear from it. The Ady Gil had already been semi effective against the Shonan and had just prop fouled the Nishin Maru, which was probably the most successful prop fouling that had ever been done by Sea shepherd. The reality is the Shonan Maru recognized the Ady Gil was being way too effective against the whaling fleet, and took the opportunity to take it out of the game for good, which is malevolent intent.

Well I dont have a bone in the fight or anything, but the large boat does 100% have right of way in this scenario. When neither boat is at anchor, the boat to the port(left) always has right of way and it is up to the boat on the starboard (right) to maneuver away. Any captain would know this as this is pretty much question #1 on a Captain's exam.
@embeddedllama15344 жыл бұрын
you do understand that the wailing ship deliberately crashed into them right?, you can't just move out of the way when your vessel is powered down, it's not a car you can't just turn the key and go, there are procedures to follow to start and move the vessel, the smaller boat had been sitting out there for a while waiting for the wailing boat to come by, they had the right of way and the bigger wailing boat should have changed course (maneuvered around) the smaller boat

You are correct. Other footage shows the Ady accelerating, putting themselves into the path of the Shonan Maru. It also shows the Ady crew members almost getting scalped with the Shonan's water canons. Nothing like picking a fight and then getting (1) your boat cut in 2 and then (2) then hosed down.

@@conanthedestroyer7123 us courts & Australia courts both ruled adigail at fault. Abigail was deliberately hindering the rightful path of the ship which is against maritime law which. the minute it sailed in front of the Japanese ship it was hindering the their path . The ships captain also admitted that the ship would not have sunk but they deliberately stopped ship saving efforts for the publicity. In the end the courts also proved that the Japanese ship could not have stop even if it wanted to And the Japanese ships own data recorder shows they actually made every effort to do so but a ship of that size could not have stopped or evaded in time due to how close the adigail was. the Abigail was sailing to close long before the accident and clip shows and purposely directly in its path all of which are against maritime rules that they were found at fault. No one was charged because this was a lawsuit for financial compensation for the ship that’s sunk and in the End Shepard was not compensated for their ship being sunk because it was their own actions that lead to the accident and the sinking

The data recorders at the time of the collision & the captains own testimony showed the Abigail sailed across the Japanese ship path and was not at full throttle because they were deliberately trying to block the other ships path but they were too close & the Japanese ship couldn’t stop due to its size. Once the adigail was hit it actually was likely not going to sink but Paul Watson ordered them to stop and abandon ship because of the media value. The captain of the adigail admitted all of it and left sea shepherd over it too. Look it up for yourself. See shepherd tried to sue the Japanese fleet for the loss of the ship & lost both cases

@@Twitchguy Yes thanks for the gppd information. I saw the video from the Shonan Maru 2, and you can see the Ady Gil's engines move the boat forward just before the crash. Also, reading that both Captains were held at fault, which is probably the best judgement. I think whaling needs to be stopped, and many of the illegal fishing and netting going on in the Oceans and Sea need to stop, but most governments only patrol their shores. Who is to protect the Ocean and Sea life from illegal harmful fishing techniques?
