I heard Andy Flower say that the biggest regret in terms of his Cricketing career, was no doubt this Test Match, where they only had to chase 98, and were bowled out for 63. I would agree with Andy Flower's sentiments there. Yes the pitch was all over the place, but one would think anything under 120-150 should be chased down quite easily. Especially when in the Zimbabwe's 1st Innings they made 232. Even if you take Andy Flower's 113 not out, they still scored 119 amongst the other 10 batsmen.

Remember watching this match live. 98 was like chasing 250 on a good pitch. West Indies had 4 good fast bowlers. So credit to them. But yeah Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 should have chased it down.

@@krishnendubasu007 pitch had crack all over it. Zimbabwe didn’t have the technique or skills to survive on that pitch. They may have being competitive in ODI cricket but batting against red ball is entirely different. Since it swings and bounces a lot more than white. Your true batting skills are shown in test cricket.

@@krishnendubasu007 remember walsh and ambrose had defended low totals on moe than one occasion. SA 1992, england in 1994, India in 1997. And yes they were virtually at the end of their careers(Ambi would be gone by August of that year and Courtney had had enough by june of the next year), they were still very skilled operators and still giving the world's best batsmen a working over.

There was a time when Walsh and ambrose defended anything for windies. Ni matter how meager the total
@YoYo-xl5hw2 жыл бұрын
you are wrong , it's all about approach , if your thinking is aggressive then you can achieve any score & Walsh and Ambrose was average bowler when they bowl outside Windies , they don't have contribute win against India in India , But we talk about McGrath then McGrath was different than them
@lestercharles98562 жыл бұрын
@@YoYo-xl5hw point taken.. Just stating that I can recall about 5 occasions where they defended totals less than 200 for the Windies. I always found their ability to do that very admirable. But I think calling them average us a stretch. But to each his own. Peace

But man 98. Australia could not defend 141 the other day in an ODI v Zimbabwe. To me that 2000 Zimbabwe side had deeper batting.

@@YoYo-xl5hw Absolute rubbish. Ambrose never even played a test match in India. Walsh was beyond amazing in India he took 43 wickets at a scarcely unbelievable average of 18 with three 5 wicket hauls. He was by far the highest wicket taker in the 87-88 series with 26 wickets 10 more than any other Indian player. Was also the highest west Indian wicket taker in 1994. Both series were drawn 1-1

I think a far more aggressive chase would have being the better option. Grant Flower topped scored 26 from 126 balls, over a quarter of the score required. During his innings a Heath Streak or Neil Johnson and Murray Goodwin could have taken the aggressive approach, while up the other end, Grant Flower played out his 26 of a 126 balls. Frustrating to be a Zimbabwean Cricket Fan and player for this Test Match.
