Join us for a live Zoom discussion with Camille Poirier, Nicolás Aguirre, Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo (Inter-Nation-All); Terry Jones (Savage/Future); and
Victoria Hunt (Biolumin).Moderated by Mervyn Tano, President, IIIRM.
Experience the heart and soul of Indigenous filmmakers through experimental films that explore methods of storytelling beyond the spoken word. Through music, dance, animation and imagery, these productions transcend the expected and share a new vision for Indigenous film.
The films they will be discussing are:
Inter-Nation-All (Directors Camille Poirier and Nicolás Aguirre)
A montage of images, animation and dance choreographed by Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo (Mohawk) transports the viewer across continents and cultures. (2023, 6 min.)
Savage/Future (Director Terry Jones [Seneca - Wolf Clan])
Editing to the soundscape of shaking Iroquois white corn and tapping, filmmaker Terry Jones uses personal and historic still images to link his family and the American Indian boarding school experience. (TornJersey Media, 2022, 3 min.)
Biolumin- (Directors Victoria Hunt [Te Arawa, Rongowhaakata, Ngāti Kahungunu, English, Irish], Moe Clark [Métis, Norwegian, French, British] and James Brown.)
A journey through space and time, in underwater realms where mirrored bodies spiral, suspend and dance through te reo Maori and nêhiyawêwin (Cree) lamentations. (2023, 5 min.)
Presented in partnership with the International Institute for Indigenous Resource Management and the Denver American Indian Commission.
