it gets me every time, and also goosebumps. This is exactly an embodiment of anger and anguish and every single feeling you can put on something so dark and deep as an addiction. First of all, we are not used to see artists performing their REAL feelings in shows nowadays, there are some yeah, but secondly, we are not used to see ANY body (not only artists) bringing out such dark, deep and powerful feelings. Because those cant be shared... or expressed... and that's our burden. I have never seen another performance like this. We humans have been conditioned to repress the more negative ones and that in the long term is a problem for us. I love tool and I love Maynard because they dont give a sh*t about what's expected and just bring those feelings up for us to make them visible so we can heal them. They are amazing.

Literally 2 hours ago I was watching your reaction to Descending for quite possibly the 20th time. It’s my favorite song on Fear Inoculum and my favorite reaction from you two. As I was watching, I thought to myself, “I know they haven’t reacted to Sober live, but have they seen it?” The Tool gods have answered. Listening to their albums(almost everyday since 94) takes me to a special place within myself, but when you see them live, it just hits you different. The passion they have for their craft exudes from each one of them. You feel how much it means to them. Your reaction was just as expected. Subdued. Maynards raw emotion in this performance sucks you in and leaves you in awe.
@mcmondo3 жыл бұрын
Well said and I couldn’t agree more brother. You will not find a more dedicated and honest performance than this one done by a band that wants and needs you to feel their emotions through their craft. I’ve been lucky enough to experience Tool live four times over the 23 years since I first found them and each time they grip you and trip you out and send you to a place no other band can take you, it’s like an entity travelling through your soul. I urge any Tool fan to remortgage your house to make the effort and see Tool live just once and you’ll be complete, that’s a promise.

At that time in their careers, they had already had many colleagues and friends become addicted to substances. I don't know if you guys remember, but in the early 90s, heroin was really big. Performers like Layne Staley, Mike Starr, etc. had already developed an addiction. And these were friends to everyone in Tool. I imagine some of the members of Tool had their encounters with substances as well. Sober marked a dark, dark time in rock music. It was raw and emotionally charged because it was a raw and emotional time. From then to now, how many rock giants have we lost to substance abuse and misuse? Too many, I think. Great video, as always!

He performed it same way in 1992 when i saw them at the whiskey in LA. I said in an aerlier reaction video I was the person he stared at for the whole song. MINDBLOWING! There is a performance from 1992 at a club called JC dobbs here on youtube. His stare is even more pensive. The smaller venue works better for the song. In between their set at the whiskey and white zombie's i spoke to adam jones about my liking of the band's performance. TY for the reaction D music life!

Guys I really reeeally like your channel and have been watching for a while now, but this is my first comment ever ✌️ I want to suggest something new and out of the box! An acapella group that only uses their voices in every single song they produce. They have 3 Grammys, 5 members and can cover any song or create their own amazing originals. Please check out Pentatonix - Bohemian Rhapsody. From there is an almost endless rabbit hole of songs, music videos, live concerts and live studio recordings, and you can’t pick a bad one. If you like them also try Hallelujah, Evolution of Music or Sound of Silence. Please enjoy these amazing musicians and never stop reacting! Love you both!! 💕

It's incredible how he sings so well with such an unnatural posture. He just manifests what the song is about. Any Orbit Culture coming up?
@Xanderj892 жыл бұрын
Try to sing along with it, I found it actually helps express the emotion rather than just purely what would be best 'note' wise you know, just fully immerse in the emotion. Having expression to fall into instead of trying to posture for whatever expectations you feel make it weird to act like that kinda lets your body relax and just do it's thing, you can be on autopilot so you can just focus on the encompassing tingling of raw emotion and pour it out into your voice (idk how he does it without tearing up tbh)

There are a lot of good bootleg videos here on KZbin that are suprisingly good quality. There is a page on here called Tool Live Remastered.
