Saw this live in Oakland CA in 96 and was just floored. They sounded so much better than any recording. My jaw was on the floor for the entire show. Of course I had dropped three liquid LSD drinched sweettarts and was peaking as this song came about. Fuck me. It was utterly beautiful and mesmerizing. And Maynard was half blue and half white with white boxers and using two mics right out front center. He was leading that crowd and had us all hanging on every lyric. It was magical.

I love your reaction so much. You guys gave respect to the song's point, its lyrics and allowed yourselves to feel everything through this song. My first concert was during the 1996 ænima tour. I was a 15yr old 5'2 girl going with my big sis, got way intimidated by how tiny we were in a sea of excited bodies but spent the entire evening encircled by a leather clad gang of Bikers, protecting us from the heaving crowd because they could see we weren't quite brave enough to hold space. And they got emotional too with Maynard's voice. The best scene, the best core memory in my life. Thank you, and welcome new Tool fans. 😊

I FEEL YA!!!! You have to see them live! I saw them last night in Eugene Oregon, row 12 center floor. Dude, I've see many outstanding bands in my 62 years, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Led Zep, Robin Trower, YES, Ozzy, ad infinitum but, WOW!!! Goosebumps and awe the entire show!!!! One of only a handful of shows where a recording, even through the best headphones, do not come near the live performance. I truly cannot express how impressive they are live. Their sound quality, production, animations and light show, and absolutely amazing tight performances are experience you can't miss. The only comparable to them in any, and all, of those attributes in my experience are Pink Floyd and YES.

greatest experience ever was seeing these guys at the tweeter center in camden nj back during the 10000 days tour. it was cloudy as hell all day, and started raining a few measures before the praying for rain line and I was out in the Field. Fantastic. Maynard definitely summoned that shit!

The song is also based off a Bill Hick's sketch where he imagined L.A. being swept away into Arizona Bay (Also a CD of his sketches) Maynard and he were very good friends and Aenema came out a couple years after Hicks died. Fun note with the lyrics is Maynard writes them after the song is recorded so he can hit the beats perfectly with the syllables. Listen to Schism, Sober or Lateralus for perfect examples of this.

The first 3 tracks of Lateralus had me stuck for at least 2 yrs, and then one day I looked at the tracklist and was like, 'Hey, there are more than 3 songs on here... what the? Wait, FREE TOOL?!?
