My favorite aspect of Glitchtrap, the thing that makes him the scariest version of the character, is something that's true regardless of whether he's Afton (which I dont think he is but would prefer him to be) or Mimic-01, which is that he can't actually do anything. He made a man cut his own face off just trying to get his voice out of his head, and drove at least one (we dont know what happened to Tape Girl after all) perfectly average woman into becoming a serial killer by doing nothing but talking. We've seen Vanny, both in game Vanny and what we've seen of the dummied out beta version, and what we've seen is NOT William (or the Mimic thinking it's William) wearing Vanessa wearing a bunny costume. She may not be happy about what she's doing but she's still HER, he isn't taking active control. He is compelling, coercing, threatening, persuading, whatever he is doing to make her take those actions, but he isn't physically making her do them. He CAN'T. All he can do is be a voice in her head, telling her things, manipulating her memories, and getting his way for as long as he remains in her mind and that is SO MUCH scarier than a 7 foot rabbit robot, even if said robot has a zombie dude inside.

Glitchtrap, and the entire Mimic saga, demonstrates the biggest problem with Fnaf theorizing, and it's a problem that's persisted since day 1. Theorists (and the community at large) are so anxious to solve the puzzle right away that they don't stop to think that maybe they need to wait for more pieces. The problem on Scott and Steel Wool's end is they are never clear what is and what isn't a piece. If Scott would just come out and say "yes, this particular set of books takes place in the same universe as the games" that would solve SO many issues. And if theorists would wait for all the pieces to be revealed, rather than grasping at straws and theorizing themselves into a corner, we'd avoid a lot of internal debating over specifics
@ToaArcan
@ToaArcan Жыл бұрын
Part of the issue there is the KZbin Grind. Yeah, theorists should probably wait for the whole story to be revealed before making theories. But they also need to put out a video at least once a week. Even if they knew that the story was incomplete, they'd still be making videos dissecting every new crumb of information because if they don't keep up the content churn, then the algorithm buries their channel.

Another little detail that connects Glitchtrap to the Mimic is in the design, specifically the suit itself, it's a mascot costume which the Mimic is known for using and Vanny continues that aspect. Personally Glitchtrap is fine, I'd probably like him more if we got to see him more, but if he is the Mimic then it makes sense why he's only really present in that one game. Maybe we'll see him in Help Wanted 2.

I like glitchtrap and I hope he's still around after princess quest 3, even though you do hear a scream at the end. I like the mimic but it can only do so much by itself, I would like the mimic to be a more direct villain and glitchtrap taking over all electronics in the background. Eventually I would like a game where we can take on and defeat both the mimic and glitchtrap in a big fight. That's just what I would like for a big finale.

I just think he makes the lore more convoluted; there is the mimic/burntrap, but what exactly is Glitchtrap? Are they the same, part of the main artificial intelligence, or just another evil digital entity? It's feels like another villian doing the exact same thing as the mimic/burntrap, copying William Afton. Unless mimic and burntrap is different which just makes things even more confusing
@syweb2
@syweb2 Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure that Mimic and Burntrap are different just by nature of their designs. The Mimic is almost totally original, just with a Nightmare Endo-esque left hand. Meanwhile, Burntrap's torso, arms, and ears are very directly based off of Springtrap and Beta Spring Bonnie, while the legs are from Glamrock Endo and the hands are Nightmare-stye. As far as I understand it, Burntrap seems like William's last flailing death throes before he is ultimately captured by the Blob for reasons unknown (in the Burntrap Ending, and potentially in Ruin's continuity since the Blob did tunnel out of Pizza Sim, and Burntrap is nowhere to be seen). There are _some_ character design changes in Ruin, but they're either minor retcons like Eclipse's Faz-Wrench port and Roxy's wire color, or are actual in-universe changes like a lot of the damage on the Ruined animatronics and Roxy's extra torso parts that _clearly_ extend past where her casing would be if it were intact. Meanwhile Burntrap being the Mimic is either a _major_ retcon (and the largest one seen in the whole DLC), or the Mimic somehow turned into a Springlock endoskeleton in Security Breach before turning back into a more Tales-esque endo before Ruin.
@froggylynx5647
@froggylynx5647 Жыл бұрын
@@syweb2 The Mimic can swap around it’s parts like a Mr Potato head in order to fit into different sized costumes. There are a bunch of random endo’s down there from FFPS that it can use. As you mentioned Roxy has a TON of endo changes, like her torso and her ENTIRE FACE. No one questions if she’s still Roxy. Mimic/Burntrap have less design discrepancies than Shattered Roxy/Ruined Roxy.

I liked Glitchtrap before the whole Mimic thing more, it was somewhat cool if you think about it, i mean the Murder, the Antagonist, the guy who Killed kids and took all their opportunities in life away and used their souls to get immortal gets punished in "Hell" but he manages to escape by slowly taking over a Game's code which directly came from the Suit in which William was trapped in for Years so that he takes over the mind from an Woman which repairs his physical Body and re-uploads him in there. William being Glitchtrap could have been way better if they did it more obvious how William came back and how he corrupts Vanessa, but they fucked up a bit in Help Wanted and massively fucked up in Security Breach. Now we don't have a clue who Glitchtrap even is like Mimic does exist since Ruin is a thing but Mimic does in Ruin make not so much sense, how did he got that Walkie Talkie? Why is Gregorys Backpack down there? Why didn't Mimic just hack the Elevator after Cassie shutted M.X.E.S down and get tf out, if Mimic does want to get out why does "He" crash the Elevator where he both could kill Cassie and escape, if Mimic didn't crash the Elevator why does Gregory have Remote access and why hasn't he done something to keep Cassie away from like *EVERYTHING* Mimic and Burntrap act different like Burntrap is a somewhat Hostile and Dangerous yet weak and hurted Animal, while Mimic just wants you Dead and runs after you even though he could Run after Cassie the whole time, like if Mimic plays with his prey, Mimic has Orange Eyes and when he "takes control" of Helpi, Helpi has Orange eyes too while Burntrap has Purple Eyes and Glichtrap has both Green and Purple in his Avatar. Also if Totpp is "Games Canon" where tf is Vanessa? If TOTPP is only to a part canon and Mimic is something else in ruin than he is in the books, what's going on with him? Burntrap obviously is Canon, if Gregory would have done the things differently we only would have the Burntrap Ending, it's juts a "How what would have happened" and the Blob is there, Mimic's been said to be down there a long time meaning he was longer behind the concrete Wall than Gregorys Backpack was down there. Maybe the Burntrap Ending AND the Princess Quest ending is Canon but in a whole different way than how it's shown.

Honestly the main thing I don't like about Glitchtrap (and by extension The Mimic) is how he's the final nail in the coffin of killing off the Paranormal Aspects of the FNAF franchise (at least as far as the games go). I can respect Scott for wanting to go back to his Sci-Fi roots, but I think the Ghost Story centered around CEC style animatronics is much more interesting than sentient virus programs and mitichlorians style explanations of hauntings/possession with Remnant and Agony. Now the connection of The Mimic does soften the blow a bit for both Glitchtrap and Burntrap admittedly, because there's now an actual cohesive narrative in play, but I still just prefer the more grounded Paranormal story where we knew what decade it is for certain.

To me, he represents everything that went screwy with FNaF lore after the original run ended. We get a new game that gives us every indication that William has found a new way to cheat death. Maybe that's annoying after the send-off he got in Pizza Sim, but this is now very much a series for kids, and villains in kids' games don't tend to die. Besides, the idea of him continuing to become even less human in his bid for immortality is pretty creepy, and the idea of him possessing people is also fairly creepy. Plus, the game actually shows us getting MCI'd in one ending, which is kinda huge.This happens in 2019. Two and a half years later, we get a second game from these developers, which continues on from the apparent return of ya boi William. One of the people he tried to possess (presumably the player character from Help Wanted) has now dressed herself up as a murder rabbit and has infected the newest generation of Pizza Bots with him. In the final act of the game, William returns to flesh and blood in a scene that was probably meant to be epic but mostly just pissed people off for bringing him back, doing nothing cool with him, and being at the end of a game so buggy that it'd make Todd Howard blush. They didn't really do anything with Vanny, but I guess if the game was building up to the return of the guy she was emulating then that kinda makes sense. Her role in the plot was to rebuild William's body and deliver his mind to it, I guess. And then two years after that, we get some books that reveal that actually none of the above was true. It was a robot the entire time. Either the robot thinks it's William or the robot has PTSD because robots can have that now, or there are two robots with the same name and one is Steel Wool's Original Character Blilliam and the other has PTSD or both. Vanny was a spare part the entire time, and may have actually been entirely unnecessary for how little she does in Security Breach, which aggravates the problem even more because she was _already_ a perfect candidate for the copycat killer trope that's actually been properly built up in the primary material, and she's completely wasted while Cawthon, Steel Wool, and Scholastic put all the focus on this other rando who was, at that point, basically a book-exclusive character. And then we get a DLC that on the one hand, confirms that the Mimic is real in the games, and on the other hand, basically deconfirms that it was physically in the Burntrap suit because they're completely different in terms of design, so I guess actually that _was_ William stumbling around, but with the Mimic in the driver's seat? And maybe Burntrap wasn't real at all? Who fucking knows at this point. In any case, I feel as though the vagueness of the Mimic's ending in the books, the changes to its design from Tales to Ruin, and it not resembling Burntrap's endo were probably deliberate choices on the part of the creators, to create more grey areas and wiggle room to drop the "It was the Mimic all along and the books are very important!" thing if it suits them at a later date. I feel like FNaF used to be this thing where the lore was vague but it was reasonably easy to find and put together to create a satisfying narrative, just using the games. Now the lore is more like a collection of incoherent plot threads that don't match up, and then they release a new book that provides all the answers, and the only question left is "Are these books exactly what happens in the games?" and that's a boring question that isn't fun to debate, it just devolves into anti-Talesgames fans being overly stubborn and pro-Talesgames fans often getting outright insulting and calling everyone that doesn't follow Talesgames stupid, and frankly, even if I _did_ like Talesgames, I'd want it to turn out to be wrong just to make those assholes feel as dumb as they evidently believe everyone else to be. As it stands, I feel like Talesgames probably is the answer, and if it is... I still don't like it. It feels like cheating to just get all the answers from a mediocre book series, and those answers still aren't satisfying.

Oh my god you were able to put my feelings into words. I was, of course, part of the bandwagon that hated William coming back as Burntrap. "Doesn't that negate Henry's actions in Pizzeria Simulator?" "Is the 'real' William still in UCN/Hell, or did he escape to go into the new Burntrap body?" "Is Burntrap now Glitchtrap's body that Vanny made? Was this explained in the games?" "What even is Glitchtrap? Is he William's soul? A copy? Somehow both???" To see him stumble out of that charging station, do nothing but "menacingly" touch computer monitors to hack Freddy, and then "die" immediately afterwards felt like a slap in the face. "That's it?!" "All of that supposed build-up. All of the Glitchtrap saga just...ends in a deflating balloon of anticlimax?" And now? The worst part of all? Now I think that I don't even like The Mimic. If we are to believe that Glitchtrap is the Mimic program, Burntrap is the Mimic's endo, and/or both are combined, then does that also mean that the Mimic is in Vanessa/Vanny? I think that's what's making me disappointed: it is a copy (Glitchtrap) of a copy (Vanny) of a copy (Burntrap). It was honestly a cool idea for the Cult of Glitchtrap or something like those lines. Vanessa is a woman being coerced, forced, manipulated, etc. into becoming a serial killer through a sci-fi possession of the past one's soul-virus. And yet, are we satisfied? "Hooray? William is still dead. We got what we asked for, didn't we?" I said this in another comment, but I feel as if modern FNAF wants its cake and eat it too. It wants a grand, interconnected narrative line through LOOOOOOORE and mystery, yet its source seems to not (ironically) be full enough at the same time. It seems as if the plot/games/etc. are written in a vague way to artificially induce theorizing while ending up not fulfilling a satisfying, self-contained story. Take Security Breach. Its story teased in the trailers seemed quite thematic and heavily narrative-driven. William (?) was speaking to Vanny about how she was nothing and pathetic before him (or Glitchtrap...?). Vanessa expresses worry to Gregory about how none of them will stop hunting him. The unknown (Monty?) voice says that two will burn if they fail him. Vanny says that Gregory's friends are worried about him, and her temper was a glitch. What we got was none of that in the release. Everyone in the story has vague, undefined, or completely unknown motives for what they are even doing in terms of the plot. Why is Gregory stuck in the Pizzaplex? Why is he wary of Vanessa? Why are the other animatronics attacking him? Why doesn't Freddy react to any of this in an appropriate manner? Why does Gregory immediately resort to destroying the other robots when Freddy expresses that they are his friends? Why upgrade Freddy (outside of petty revenge)? How on Earth does Gregory know about unspoken disappearances? Why do most of the characters exist in a dialogue void? (Chica, Roxy, and Monty have zero dialogue with Freddy outside of Roxy's room comment, but that's it. We don't know what their friendship is like; our only message is that they...are friends according to Freddy. Do they think of each other as friends? How do/would they interact with each other? How do they feel about Vanessa? They have lockdown and everything. Do they not like being forced into their rooms every night? Do they think she is a bitch? Do Monty and Freddy get along well? Their stage performance shows a positive vibe, yet environmental storytelling seems to show Freddy in a negative light according to Monty. Yet, despite this, Freddy still is...amicable with him? I guess?) Ugh. Everything just...doesn't have enough narrative weight to it. There are so many questions. So many questions! And yet, will we ever be happy with the answers? Would we have been happier if there was more build-up to Burntrap instead of his wet-fart reveal? Would we as a fandom accept a fuller story with foreshadowing and in-game hints and better motives that leads to Burntrap's resurrection? Would it make Vanny a better character, or should she have been a copycat killer and leave all of the Glitchtrap nonsense aside? So many questions, yet we can only fill in the holes with fanfiction and a book series whose canon is debated to this very day.

This Talesgames thing is honestly ridiculous and I 100% agree with you. I really hope people in the future use FNaF as an example of how not to make a mystery story, by dragging it along and releasing over 20+ books full of supposed "lore" along with games that become more and more irrelevant in their information with each new one that releases thanks to Scott going back and retconning previous FNaF games with the newer entries (the bad ending being canon in FNaF 3, FNaF 4 being an experiment, etc.) and whatnot. It's why I finally said "fuck this" and gave up. It's not satisfying, it's annoying.

Tbh what I don't like about it is just the convoluted nature of the problem. For every theory that suggests that Glitchtrap is mimic1, another one pops up soon after, saying that it cannot be true, as "X" point couldn't have happened if it isn't William. I usually like to take an Occam's Razor approach with my interpretation, but here I don't think that applies. Just for simplicity sake I think Glitchtrap is BOTH Mimic1 and William. I haven't really seen any reason as to why the mimic1 program would even want to mimic Afton's behaviour, in the TFTPP series(which I don't actively keep up with so correct me if I'm wrong, thank you), the endo was pretty much in Edwin's basement for quite a long time, including the time period where William committed his crimes, so why would the mimic even "Mimic" William to begin with? I know some people use the argument that it could've learnt of Afton's deeds after being integrated into HW, but again, HW doesn't have Afton doing the murders before the mimic is put in, so how would the mimic learn of that? The only murders alluded to in HW is in pizza party, which Glitchtrap itself does. Also since they likely used old circuit boards, including the ones that survived FNaF 6, I don't think its too farfetched to say that Glitchtrap could a fusion of the Mimic program and William's soul, which escaped UCN, which can then explain PQ. If William isn't in PQ, why would Cassidy bother coming back to take down Glitchtrap? And even if you use the argument that its because the mimic was mimicking William, then if Cassidy does in fact beat Glitchtrap at the end of PQ, why is the mimic still a thing in RUIN then? It doesn't work, narratively and thematically speaking. That's why I think Glitchtrap is William+Mimic1, with William finally meeting his demise at the end of PQ3, but the Mimic still survives onward to RUIN, as its not a soul, its an AI program. However, that's just a theory, a Book-

As far as we know, she has no idea who or what the Mimic even is, also the pizzaplex being littered with Nightmarionne plushies(AKA the personification of death, which takes the form of a nightmare version of the puppet, when against william as shown by his canonicity in UCN), and the Alpha Staffbots looking eerily similar to nightmarionne at least tells me than some form of Afton's soul is definitely at play, otherwise how would would you explain, the very concept of Death itself, going after an AI program? Literally makes no sense narratively, and even from a common sense approach Also if it's just the mimic, then why would it be trying to mimic the appearance of springtrap in SB, but in RUIN it just ditches the idea of trying to mimic afton in its entirety, instead opting for Gregory?

Honestly my opinion on Glitchtrap is kinda 50/50 too. I mean first, on the surface level I really like his design, I think he looks pretty damn cool and eerie! But about who he is, ehhh. I mean don't get me wrong, him being the real Afton really sucks, due to Fnaf 6 and UCN, and him simply a program that's kinda like Afton instead is really great! Buuut, on the other hand, I don't really like the Mimic as a character, so Glitchtrap being the Mimic all along is not something I'm fond of. Alas, given the way the series is going, It's probably going to stay that way. And yes, the Mimic being a thing to being with is a pretty obvious retcon of the intended plot after the backlash over Burntrap. Again, I like the "program" idea, but honestly I'd rather have him being it's own character, instead of Afton (which at this point should just stay dead) and the Mimic (again, just for personal reasons, but that's my opinion, I'm not saying how I think the series SHOULD go, I'm simply expressing what I would prefer). Anyways great vid, love the use of the Resting Ground OST for some of the background music! Hollow Knight is damn great

But then they keep throwing back and referencing old lore with what ive already listed and mikes room in SB etc.. they really should make a decision if its a new era to leave the past in the past or if the past is still relevant

Something to note about Mike's room is that it isn't one-to-one. It's a loose recreation with a different layout, much like the Help Wanted room recreations. The reference is clear, but the execution is different, much like what the Mimic does with its imitations. It seems like Mimic1/Glitchtrap existing to perpetuate and cycle the history of the franchise is also being extended to locations under its control.

To me there's a huge difference between the story being something entirely brand new, and a couple easter eggs that link it back to older games. Like yeah, if Cassie said "Oh geez, I wonder if Circus Baby is here!" and then CB showed up at the end, I 'd agree. But nothing like that has happened-- every story beat is new, its' only easter eggs that ever connect back to the older games.

One thing I'd like to point out is the UCN does not confirm William is in Hell, in fact the voice lines in game seem to suggest otherwise. A quote from Orville Elephant (the vengeful spirit talking through Orville anyway) "He tried to release you, he tried to release us, but I'm not going to let that happen. I will hold you here, I will keep you here, no matter how many times they burn us." This quote directly states that Henry's plan didn't work because this spirit won't allow Afton to move on and is thus not in an actual Hell. There's also that one story from Fazbear Frights that has a burnt basically corpse of a man being kept alive and tormented by a ghost that won't let him be killed to work as supporting evidence that William didn't die in the Pizza Sim fire.

prior to when twitter blew up after GGY, The Storyteller and The Mimic i was kinda "eh" on the series future, having william come back and gregory being a robot and charlie and elizabeth coming back and cassidy is in PQ and Mike is Glamrock Freddy, i just felt that if they keep bringing back these characters it was gonna become kinda lame. then once it came out and i was told what the mimic was and how it connects to all these stories and what mimic1 was it felt like a whole wave of interest came back to the series for me, having these new characters and plotlines that i suppose COULD parallel elements of the past but in themeing only. then after RUIN came out i thought it was gonna put an end to the debate of the books canonicity since the mimic endo was where the mimic endo was in the books but people still didnt accept it and now i am getting tired of the debate. i think steel wool or scott either need to clarify the truth in Help Wanted 2, be it an appearance by tiger rock or if it mentions edwin as the creator or if it wants to go the other way and say henry was the mimics creator and is also baby? (what) because then at least we'd be able to move on from the debate

I used to really enjoy Glitchtrap a lot back when people thought he was William. I found at that time for UCN to be the single worst way FNaF could have ended. Afton is defeated and goes to... A literal FNaF game full of campy kiddy humor run by a kid who's somehow more evil than the Devil? No thanks. I'll pass on that absolute trashfire of a "finale." When I saw Glitchtrap, I thought we were gonna get a much better (in my opinion) end for William than to see him literally play a FNaF game for all eternity. But nope! Turns out we've all been duped! It was Mimic all along! And not only that, but this thing was also built in the 80s? So where was he in any of the other games? Why wasn't he hinted at or teased? If they had him planned out since 2019 then why was there no communication or hinting that this character was meant to be this big of a deal? Besides, you already have Ennard who can just about do everything Mimic can do but does it way cooler. Why they didn't just find some weird excuse to pick up on Ennard's story post FFPS and then conclude it with the Blob in SB is really beyond me. Apologies if this comment comes off ridiculously unhinged lmao. I've been attached to this fictional lore for too long and to see it go in this direction just really infuriates me and I get very passionately angry when trying to discuss it.

I personally don't enjoy the mimic. I think its messy, OP, and too sci-fi in a franchise that already stretched a little far into sci-fi horror for my preference. Also, I feel like something a lot of younger fans don't appreciate about a possible resurrection of Afton (and it's fine that they don't! I get it.) is that FNAF borrows heavily from 80's horror which was based on villians that came back over and over again in increasingly outlandish ways. Was it dumb? Definitely. But it's also hype AF to watch Jason Voorhees come back from hell or whatever other crazy shit they came up with for the next one. The campiness was just accepted and enjoyed. Personally, I love that. I don't need a serious and emotional narrative about the downfall of a horrific serial killer in my game about an animatronic bear. I want to get spooked, have fun, and solve mysteries! And I like the aftons and their stories so I'd like to see them more even if it's campy.

I really liked Vanny as a new antagonist. She was the perfect way to introduce a new villain without fully detaching itself from William's roots. Having the real William burn in hell while his digital copy was manipulating a new character helped Fnaf6 retain its meaning and value to the story. UNFORTUNATELY Steel Wool fucked it all up, reducing her role, brought in The Blob, undoing everything Fnaf6 contributed to the story, and forced another contrived Springtrap return in a really lame office section. I liked ruin's approach to gameplay, but the fact that Glitchtrap is essentially no longer an entity, The Blob still exists, Vanessa is free, the least creative idea for a character in The Mimic is our new villain, and basically nothing they built up to had any proper payoff really irked me. If they'd at least made the Afton ending canon they'd still have a second chance with those characters, but instead they threw it all away in favor of a half-assed retcon that ruins everything they were trying to do with the story.

It would be a far cry from the original FNAF but it would make him kind of skynet or cosmic horror but no we need Afton again for the 100th time and then NOT EVEN USE IT. Great video! I'd like to share my thoughts here. Although very similar in nature, it bugged me a little that you neglected to mention another popular fan theory that Glitchtrap is the result of a brain scan of William Afton, or some of his remnant, being found on those old circuit boards and unknowingly ported into the VR game. This would explain why it adopts specifically his mannerisms and methods, since we have zero confirmation that the mimic ever caught him in the act. Also, I think Glitchtrap is a good character, I love that instead of Help Wanted just being VR ports of the Scott games, there was a little ghost story going on in the background to keep the player enticed. His appearance is off-putting, his fluid movements are extremely creepy and his mere existence puts you on edge while playing. I just wish it wasn't directly connected to the main canon, as that is what makes him problematic, as you said.

My problem with Glitchtrap (and the mimic), is that it kinda sucks a lot of the fun out of theorizing, at least, for me. The mimic is fun, sure, and is something different, but to me, it's starting to feel like twists are being ... twisted, for the sake of it. A lot of fun of theorising, especially pre-sister location, was that it felt like a cohesive story. There was an answer, and you could feasibly get there, or at least get close. To me, the this is an extension of that. Who's glitchtrap? He's this robot you haven't heard of up to this point. Does he have anything to do with burntrap? Does burntrap even exist? What was the point of security breach's story? Idk here's ... some robot. Why theorize about anything if the answer is something you had no way of knowing? Hopefully whatever is done with the character moving forward makes him worthwhile, but until then.

Yeah, this is where I'm at, mostly. Theorising about FNaF used to be fun, because it felt like we were all tantalisingly close to the answer and we just had to make the puzzle pieces line up in just the right way. Now we don't get all the puzzle pieces. We get two or three and then a few months later, we get a mediocre book that happens to contain a picture of the finished puzzle and that's the answer.

honestly, i love glitchtrap. i don't get how he works really, bc to me, it doesn't make sense how a soul can transfer into computer code, but i love the design of glitchtrap in help wanted. he actually, truthfully freaked me out. you can tell it's suppose to be a man in a suit. like... imagining a child seeing that and that's like, the last thing they see? horrifying

10:48 Minor nitpick, but that's not how statistics and probability work. "Either it does happen or it doesn't" equating to 50/50 odds is a logical fallacy. This has nothing to do with your argument, it's just a wording thing that bugs me.
