Thank you for your teachings, Ajahn Brahmali. "Have a gentle heart and peaceful mind." Many blessings to Eddie. I have been hearing your voice just as long as all the teachers at Buddhism of Society. You are a great teacher that help use learn wisdom. The meaning of the name Eddie is: Rich in friendship, or wealthy friend. I know you are my friend. :D

Dear Bhante, regarding "when sleeping, waking" is translated in german as "einschlafen, aufwachen": knowing clearly " i am passing from waking to sleeping"

You can maintain awareness through the process of falling asleep an into sleep thus maintaining continuous mindfulness. The "sleepless sleep" as it's known in some yogic traditions. I have experienced this myself (There is a continuous perception of dim light while the physical body is asleep.) I believe this is what the Buddha may have been referring to, and thus I would come down on the side that the original translation is likely correct.
