I strongly disagree with your thoughts about the question "do you respect laws and authorities" - but I probably wouldn't have that view if I was born somewhere else. If you live in a country with, let's say, homophobic laws, I believe it is not foolish to knowingly break them and use law when it suits you. Sometimes it isn't enough to just question whether the laws should be there in the first place, and the act of breaking them is a way to rebel against outrageous laws! Obviously I don't mean you can kill people if you want, but for me it is often better to follow your own moral compass rather than laws. No hate, just wanted to share my perspective :)

The reason why this quiz is so focused on family and hometowns is I believe this particular quiz focuses on "dnd character" aspect and typically your family and/or hometown are super important parts of your character backstory. It's actually why i dont like this particular quiz myself because it places too much emphasis on family and like Cristine said, family is subjective. Also, you guys were only one point in the direction of Chaotic, so it's possible you guys are actually True Neutral because that was the next highest.

Yes this is what I was thinking! I feel this would vary from country to country and they didn’t take that into consideration. Like some countries have insane laws that are so discriminatory
@lestranged

Yes! The answers are so limited. At one time slavery was legal and helping a slave escape was illegal. "when it suits me" sounds so shallow and self-serving when it actually might be that you break the law to serve a moral good , even when it risks your own safety. That's not breaking it just for convenience or personal gain.

If it helps, Cristine, you could consider the term "family member" as someone or people who you see as your personal family, which could include blood relatives, friends, co-workers, etc., so it's not only tied to blood being thicker than water. Love the pod, I'm playing the quiz along with the video! Edit: Also, your interpretation of the questions being mostly about family, loyalty, and community support is probably because D&D is a fantasy game that usually takes place in an old, non-modern world, like ancient times when these values were very important. Edit 2: Got True Neutral, makes sense for me. This was fun, doing the quiz with the pod!

giving cash directly to people in need has actually been proven to be much more effective then giving to an organization, an organizations oversight sometimes does more harm than good (like in the case of toms donating shoes to african countries and just putting local shoemakers out of business). in general people know what they need more than organizations do and will put it to better use
@jacklyntree7752
@jacklyntree7752 2 жыл бұрын
That makes sense, but I think the downside of giving to street beggars is some of them could be really good at faking it just to scam people. I picked giving what I won't miss because it goes both ways, but I really wouldn't give a lot to someone on the street versus ans organization because of this
@jbtfp
@jbtfp 2 жыл бұрын
i think there are valid points on both sides, like for the side of giving money to the people in need directly, what you said, the people themselves know what they can use the money for, and also the fact that you know your money is 100% going to the people in need because sometimes giving to organisations, some of your money might go to the organisation costs. however on the other side, some people argue that you don’t know if some people might use the money for nefarious purposes like buying drugs (which i know is a horrible stereotype of homeless people but it does happen) or gambling, and people argue that maybe you could go to the store and buy food and give the food directly to these people in need instead, but then others again argue what if they already had food and needed the money for something else like clothes, etc. so yeah i think both sides are valid and the best is to do your research and go with what you feel is best.

I think for 16 (“Do you respect the laws of the community”) the third answer is reasonable in many cases (“when it suits me- there are some laws I just don’t agree with”). Any major civil rights movement or similar radical progressive movement would require that sort of mindset to affect positive change. I think there are grounds to not respect the law when the law is not worth respecting! Particularly the laws that involve human rights issues. If everyone in the US in the 60s and even LAST YEAR simply “respected the law,” we would live in a much different world right now

Cristine! To answer your question.... It is BOTH and ALL a boardgame, computer game, and roll playing game. Originally it was a game where you create a character on paper and you get together with your friends there is a board that have little figurines and you create a world where you have quests and there is a dungeon master that helps you get through these quests and you as your friends try not to die doing these quests as your characters....... The computer game is similar but you do it on your own...... And then role-playing is when you actually go to a location dress up as your character and it is real life LARPing

I feel like the pandemic has taught me that most/almost all people fall on the "when it suits me - there are some laws I just don't agree with" part of "Do you respect the laws and authorities of the community" and ngl it's been a bit of a shock. Like it's one of the things I feel like I can now never unsee and that knowledge is something I have to integrate into my life somehow now. Like maybe that's even one of the biggest things that will come out of the pandemic with me.

In forensic psychology we learn that everyone breaks laws. But don't be too pessimistic about it. People are of course selfish, but they can disobey for moral reasons too. I'm such a 'chaotic good'... At work, my client was continuously abusing her cat (locking it in rooms without food, water, litter, never ever emptying the litter, kept it on a leash tied to her so tight it was loosing fur, ECT) So.. I stole it. Stole her cat, and found it a better home 🤷‍♀️ Just like y'all were talking about your neighbor that put up those posters. I don't need a test, I just know 😅😂

I grew up in the 80s and did a lot of weird things ( like seeing how long you could sharpen a piece of a colored pencil going without breaking and then keeping those colored rings of shavings in an empty paste jar LOL) But never did I squirt glue into the top of a pencil case and make bookmarks out of it hahaha. I did put glue onto my hand though and then peel it off over and over again.

Question 11 really got me. When Ben was saying about paying for a night out - I feel like you kind of expect to be paid back. I used to be 'Yes but I'd be flexible with the exact terms' but then I paid for a friends concert ticket when they didn't have enough to go under the expectation that they would pay me back (I even said 'ok I'll pay if you'll pay me back'). In my opinion it was quite expensive (£50) and they never paid me back and ended up cutting me off entirely and they never spoke to me again after that. It made me feel very used and now I would say I'm more of the 'Yes and I write up a contract so there is no misunderstanding' also because I hate the awkwardness of asking people to pay you back for something.

Think the major thing with the family questions is for when you’re answering the quiz as some young elf noble wanting to go on an adventure and you need to think about what your father the Duke or King or whatever would think. Doesn’t exactly translate as well to the real world but it’s a handy tool for developing your new character.

On that question about a family member that is dying and seeking forgiveness it's a really hard question because I think it depends A LOT. It can go from a silly argument to something that traumatized you and you're still not recovered. I can think of some things that happened to me that I think I wouldn't even go (as Cristine said).

I think they say it's the best alignment because in d&d your actions are bound to your alignment (it's a character trait that helps to define what your character would do in different situations, and can even change during the story if you do something too far away from your alignment) and chaotic neutral can basically do everything. It's an easy alignment to follow

Actually, it’s been proven time and time again that you’re better off giving homeless people money directly. And it gets truer the more you give. Homeless people need money, period. They’re still people, you can’t treat them as though other people would automatically make better choices for their unique situation.

So, taking this same quiz, I got Neutral Good more often than not. In a way, not surprised by the results. The definition of family when this quiz was conceived may not have been as extensive as what we define it now, but I take the definition of family here as people that I consider myself close to, not just blood relative.

The money lending question depends so much on the amount. If I lend somebody some money because they forgot their wallet and want to buy a sandwich - whatever, they can buy me a drink or something another time or if money's tight for them, no need to repay me. If I give them a loan of several 1000s, for sure there's gonna be something in writing and clear conditions. Like I go across the full range of these answers, depending on the amount and the relationship I have with that person.
