The 12 casting time isn't the time spent sorting out ingredients and the process only for the actual casting to be instant. The caster is fully involved and focused on weaving magic, mixing components, chanting rites, etc, for the entire duration. If he was able to walk and talk and adventure he wasn't casting the spell. Beyond that, you can't have someone else prep the spell for you and step in at the very end, mechanically thats never been a rule, and narratively you'd have a different casting style than the one who prepped it requiring a hefty spellcraft check.

Story 1: That's definitely not something OP should just try to let blow over though. If she's going to a higher authority then he needs to go to his other players, ask them to contact the supreme hobby council and tell them what happened from their perspective. He should also talk to the other DM's and players that have had a run in with this girl and ask them all to file an official complaint. One that states their issue with her has nothing to do with gender, race, ethnicity, religion, mental or physical disability, that there is no discrimination against her based on ANYTHING other than how she acts, and here are testimonies from several people as to how she has acted.

The club in the first story is actually the one with the problem and the girl is exploiting their policy to get what she wants. The OP, as a DM for the club, can get removed from the club for false accusations, but said DM cannot reject players for any reason. Which is a complete horseshit rule that does nothing but create situations like this. Of course it attracts players with professional victim complexes. They have ALL the power in that scenario.

Agreed. Any system that leaves open obvious avenues of exploitation, like this one, is bound to run into trouble sooner, rather than later. People are always quick to look for a way to bend the rules in their favor and they're not above using any dirty trick in the book to get away with it. If this system is so easy to manipulate, then it is deeply flawed and in urgent need of a revision. I don't believe they're going to do that, though, because that's more work and runs them the risk of alienating players who have already gotten used to the system as is. Really, the only good option is to leave it, but then you're left without a support system to start your own DnD campaigns, so even that is fucked. Sounds like a shitty situation all around, tbh. The changes that need to happen to fix this need to come from higher up, but if that doesn't happen (which I don't believe it will), then I don't see a happy ending to this story.

It's one thing to not be discriminatory over stuff like gender, race etc, but if you're like "I've seen this person cause trouble in other groups" that's a fair reason to keep them out of your group. Policies should have exceptions, and reasonable people usually allow for that. I have a university "club" I'm in for DND where I'm gming and I've had enough games to know I'll bring the hammer down on people who cause trouble for other players.

Story 3: No. It doesn't work like that. As a DM, you cannot say 'character X doesn't participate in this event because of reason Y'. That's like the one thing a DM doesn't control. Player agency. They can do whatever they want, within the rules. They decide what they do and when they do and the DM decides how to respond to that. If they want to help dig, they help dig. Unless you can come up with a valid story based reason for why they shouldn't do that, that's what they do. If they suffered from, say, a broken leg, then you can deny them that action for a valid reason. But that's about it. Players say what players do. Freedom of choice is the whole point of the game for them.

A vain drama queen tries to claims she has been wronged while she is clearly the problem. The club itself is also part of the problem there too. That girl should have been kicked out the first time she caused drama like this. That girl from story 3 should just leave. I don't see an attempt to talk going very far. It just doesn't feel like the DM will be receptive.

Sad part for story 1 all she had to do was wait for a level up, and haved build the wizard for a paladin multiclass. All could've gone more smooth, but sounds like she does not have that kind of foresight.

I'm not a DM, but my approach to "infinite wizards" would have been: "You create infinite wizards, but as there's no room in the universe for infinite wizards, everything gets destroyed and no one survives. End of campaign. Well, since that campaign was over so quickly, let's do another one!" And restart the game.

"No girls allowed" is discrimination. Saying "no" person who is self-absorbed, entitled, manipulative, and who repeatedly causes disruptive drama (and *happens* to be a female) isn't. Now that she's slandering OP to everyone she can, he needs to hightail it to the person in charge and lay out the facts. If he doesn't, she'll railroad him. He should also get as many people (witnesses) as possible in the club to back him up (other DMs, the players in his group) and try to have her banned from the club. Only way to make her stop.

It sounds like she was trying to get OP out of the club. Why? I don't know, I can't understand Karen logic. But OP does have the rest of the party to back them as witnesses. Hopefully she gets the bad hammer and everyone can play in peace

I don’t think she went in with the intention of getting the DM removed from the club, I think she wanted to play her super special awesomesauce Mary Sue OC and browbeat her way into doing so, campaign rules be damned. Halting the sessions with loud crying, instead of just saying “screw this” and leaving when she couldn’t play a paladin, is blatant emotional manipulation to guilt everyone into letting her have her way.

Yeah, first story needs to get the players and the advertisement he put out, and bring it up to the upper management, to say that she did not abide by the conditions and theme of the game. He said "red wizards", as in that is the setting, and conditions of the game, and needs to be respected. She did not abide by the condition, and "contract" she made when she came in. Creating an Aasimar Paladin is not part of the theme of the campaign. And this is why organized groups like that need to be better organized. "All inclusive" is problematic, especially for a DM, who needs to balance various personalities, including considering if two players are incompatible, and to be able to kick a problem player, that may also be incompatible with the DM him or herself. That is why Session Zero is important. If a player can't join in person, that is why they either A) need to meet another day, one on one in order to set things up, and B) send the character and bio to be approved by the DM. But she found excuses to hold out, and bring forth her Paladin, to a Wizard campaign. I would probably insist to a due date, that if you haven't had an in person meeting, or submitted your character to the DM for approval, then you lose your spot, and another person can join. Since she failed to concede to either one, she should have been given the boot. people need to understand and respect the them of a game. You don't set up a Gotham City detective game, and have a player come in as a Green Lantern. You don't set up a Samurai game (even with some supernatural elements) with a player bringing in character from Naruto Shippuden. (I know I'm going to get some flak for this, but eventually, Naruto stopped being a Ninja setting, and just DBZ with ninja cosplay.) You don't set up a Swashbuckler pirate game, and have a player come in with a One Piece character. (And before people jump down my throat on this, there's a difference between Pirates of the Caribbean, which is a swashbuckling setting, and One Piece which is more the wacky anime setting and abilities, rather than Swashbuckling.)

I remember in my groups games we did not allow playeds to make characters be related to closely connected to their past characters to avoid issues where they try and seek out revenge.

People who start throwing around accusations when they don't get special treatment are annoying as hell... Something quite common are players who characters with no combat skills but a crap ton of healing, buffs, (sometimes enemy debuffs), and then start freaking out at the DM when they're attacked "I wasn't even attacking the enemy! they have NO REASON to attack ME!", and they never accept "the reason is you're making every one of their enemies stronger". Frankly any creature with an intelligence of 10 or more should know that the guy/girl buffing and healing is a priority target, take out their buffer/break their concentration and the fight swings in your favour.

And that's why I have my clerics have at least the warcaster and shield master feats. And maybe get wizard initiate so I can get the shield spell once per long rest. Also some cleric subclasses include some class features and channel divinities that can also beef a cleric up and make them harder to hit, like seriously, so many players who aren't familiar with clerics just flat out don't use them and it's aggrivating. I main clerics, and it's a class that's not recommended for beginners, but at the same time it's also one of the strongest and versatile classes out there

@PaladinGear15 I guess my point is, in combat, there are no rules for engagement, everyone's a target, and squishy players especially have to find creative ways to keep from getting hit and dying too quickly. So many players make squishy heal/debuff characters thinking the enemy will "do the right thing" and not attack them. And boy will they be in for a rude awakening.

for infinite wizard boy remember one rule, wish DOES NOT have to go the way the player wants. once the spell is cast the DM gets to decide if it works or monkey paws to hell and back. for this one id say he gets his infinite wizards, but they immediately kill each other as they cant comprehend there being another of themselves, and the wizard himself dies because Mystra DOES NOT like wish.

Well, RAW, the DM having Monkey Paws like adjudication is only if the character is trying to use Wish outside of the examples provided in the spell description. So, using Wish to cast Simulacrum is fine and goes off without a hitch. Sure, as the DM, you can change Wish so that *any* use of Wish could potentially have downsides, but RAW, duplicate a spell effect has no negative effect.

Wish specifically provides that you do not cast the spell as normal - you use Wish's casting time, and you ignore all other requirements of the spell in question, which includes components (including those that have a cost). That's RAW. So, he gets a Simulacrum. The *rest* of his plan has nothing to do with the Wished Simulacrum. Imagine that your player just said he's casting Simulacrum using Wish and he stated nothing else about his plan. It would be allowed. Then, he can move on with the rest of his plan. The Wish doesn't know what the rest of his plan entails and shouldn't take that into account - he's not casting Wish to get an army of clones. He's casting Wish to cast Simulacrum targeting himself.

The Observs (hah, I see what OP did there) have a few ways they can be taken out that're better than a stand-up fight. I was playing a shadow monk once who did it almost by accident, because he found their 'kitty' locked in a bedroom and it triggered a PTSD flashback of the years he'd spent in a cell. So he freed said victim, and set the upper floor of the house on fire so the servants would have time to get out from their ground-floor quarters. Lady 'Observ' didn't make it out, but her fucking imp did. Still ended up uncovering how completely dodgy they were, totally inadvertently.

7:52 Casting Simulacrum with the Wish spell is instantaneous and ignores any and all material components. It will have half your hit points and no equipment; it will share the same expended spell slots as you and can't regain spell slots. If you cast this spell again, any currently active duplicates you created with this spell are instantly destroyed. So you can only have a maximum of one clone from this spell. Even if you could have more, it wouldn't work because you lack the additional 9th-level spell slots for additional casts from the Simulacrum clone.

Well, *you* can't have more than one simulacrum - your Simulacrum can *also* have a Simulacrum. And *that* Simulacrum can also have its own Simulacrum, etc. However, you're right in that none of the Simulacra would have a 9th level spell slot to cast Wish from - but, if you took the time, they could each cast the 7th level version. Or, you can get cheeky, wait until you've rested and get back your 9th level spell slot, *then* have your first Simulacrum cast Simulacrum on you, so the *next* Simulacrum has Wish, then each Simulacra thereafter will also have the Wish slot, thus speeding it up.

The really emo ones like to pick drow too and go around talking about how 'no one understands them' and 'life is hard and unfair and woe is them, for they face prejudice at every turn'. Like, bro, it's fine to have some of that in your backstory and put some of those elements there, but we're still here to have fun together. If I wanted to be depressed, I'd watch the fkin news. Tone it down to a degree that makes it not the only thing your character is/does. Aasimar tend to be the mary sue types, which can be just as bad. They don't seem to understand the concept of group play and make it all about them.

The in the first story only need talk to the other players at the table to prove that they are innocent. And worse, comes the worst rung. Your own private game at your house or coffee shop. That way, you don't have to let anyone in that you don't want. In the last story, the doge was right, and the guards could subdue the character. But since the player seems hell-bent on doing things to get his character's killed. I would kill the character out of spite.

As a devout wizard lover, seeing some one try to abuse the menage et moi combo like that pisses me off. First of all, that's not even how it works, because while wish does allow you to cast simulacrum instantly without the use of components or cast time, the clone it creates is an exact copy of you at that moment with 1/2 your max HP as it's max HP, including any unspent spell slots. So while the first copy is free and instant, it has no 9th level slot or ability to regain that slot. Without the proper set up, the combo doesn't ever work past the first copy. Second, what a wizard CAN do is rarely what a wizard SHOULD do. As many crazy, fun, bs combos as Wizards can pull off, it should always be remembered that you're part of a group, and if you are the only one having fun, that is the only wrong way to play d&d. Remember folks, make sure your party, and DM, are having fun too if you want your game to stay alive. Also, no, I won't fully explain how to properly do the menage et moi here because I don't want to be responsible for some one misusing it in a game.

You kind of can do the wish + simulacrum thing, there isn't many reasons why you would, a simulacrum doesn't get any spells it casts back and it will only have half your HP which it also doesn't regain, but I guess it you're trying to brute force an encounter it works. Also i'm pretty sure Wish doesn't bypass casting times or components, it just lets you cast any spell from any class you want as long as it's 8th level or lower.

If i had to guess, I'd say problem player in story 2 has been kicked out of or silently removed from many games, to the point where they no longer have anyone to play with, and probably arent entirely aware as to why that is. So, they have to barge into public games where they immediatly revert to their own gaming self.

To the second story: The Simulacrum doesn't get your wizard's spell casting ability (or even half of it) or any other class feature. Even if it did the simulacrum created is half the level of the caster, for the duplicate to be able to cast Simulacrum (7th level spell) the original caster would have to be 28th level. Not to mention that the Simulacrum isn't created doing what you're doing, it's simply created and stands there until you tell it what to do.

To the first story: Sorry player, but the DM can place whatever restrictions on character creation they want and it's still D&D. If the concept for the table is that all the PCs are Red Wizards, then all the Players need to generate characters that are Red Wizards. It's no different from a DM starting a game where everyone has to roll up a 7th level character and you show up with a 14th level one. Sorry, but no, you have to follow the DMs rules. And BTW: It not sexist unless the character generation rules where something like, "female players have to play female Tieflings but the male players can play anything they want" -- "Everybody has to do X" is the antithesis of any kind of _____ism. And to the DM, if she creates any issue with the gaming club simple explain exactly what happened and have the other players testify on your behalf -- she ruined their game too.
