story 1 DM seriously deserves a slap... or two... with a brick. I can understand a potential setup for a zero to hero(if done right and discussed with the player FIRST), but that was flat out sadistic, not to mention the player getting isolated from other players. wtf was the point(besides fulfilling a power fantasy)

That last story: It was super cool of Jim to not only defend OP's final character, but to come up with such a neat concept of a necromancer rat piloting a zombie pirate. As someone who was once an edgy teen, I would've been so stoked to play a character like that (as an adult AND a minor). Good on the players for stopping Bart's obvious attempts at ruining another player's experience, but bad on the DM for allowing it to happen. I hate PVP roleplay (and, frankly, it shouldn't have even been allowed in this instance), so that would've made me furious, even if it did end with a cool character idea in the end.

It's incredibly bad form to have a brand new player and also have pvp. Should have suspended that for the first match the new guy is in. I can see why they didn't but I think that was a DM mistake. The pirate-rat-gundam might be one of the coolest things I've ever heard of. As for that pregnancy thing...I assume that has something to do with the biological urge to reproduce. But on the flipside, indulging it irl has issues, such as needing to find a partner, having to deal with the resulting child for 18+ years (well...if you're a good parent), and only having the pregnant part for 9 months at a time. So they find other ways to indulge it. Doing it in TTRPGs without permission from the other players though, is not the appropriate way to do it.

Knowing a few people who do have the fetish, it's normally just liking to see big bellies, as well as the side effect of having breast sizes increase. Though it does vary, as it also sounds like, in the position of a DM, it's a control fetish. Incel like behavior if the DMPC is the one who's fucking.

Once upon a time, before D&D 3.0, I joined my very first ever AD&D campaign as an elf ranger. We were playing at the comic shop in the little college town. It was so classic! The comic shop owner was the DM and his wife also played with us. I think the campaign was like… the temple of elemental evil? Anyway, my ranger got swallowed by a frog and even though I and everyone were all beating on this frog inside and out, it killed me and hopped away. So then the DM produced a human cleric for me to play. Her stats weren’t that great and she had to start at level 1, even though the rest of the party had leveled up to 3. The cleric had no magic items and could only do very minor heals. She had an 11 strength and a stick. So she would try to hit things with a stick and try not to die with her lack of armor. I noticed as they progressed that the party kept finding magic items and doling them out. Nothing for me, though. We also didn’t get any XP unless you got the killing blow on a creature, and since I could barely hit anything, I remained level 1. The DM loved picking on me, too. If I said, “I walk over to have a chat with the fighter” as we were sitting around the campfire, the DM would make me roll 2d6 fire damage for “walking through the bonfire. You didn’t specify that you walked AROUND the fire, so you walked THROUGH it!” in spite of my protests. So one day they hoisted me up to look on a tall shelf and I found a pile of loot. Gold and gems and some bracers. I put the bracers on, thinking, “well, finally some armor!” And brought the remaining loot down for everyone. Well the rogue, played by the DM’s wife, saw that I had new bracers, and decided to slit my throat in the night while I slept. At which point I crumpled up the paper and said, “you know what? This is stupid. It doesn’t make any damn sense. I can’t heal people because I can’t level because I can’t kill because I have nothing to protect myself or kill with. It would make more sense to do a group XP so we all level together.” (Or that’s what I would have said, except I was still very new and pretty shy) Anyway, later, another member of the group decided to be the DM and start a totally different campaign, and I had WAY more fun there!

My first time playing D&D went pretty crap too, DM told me I couldnt use a race I wanted to use, than let another player join with that exact race, I was tailored to fit a niche in which the party lacked, rather than the classing I wanted to play, and ended up having a character I settled for rather than the character I wanted to have - after a session I was so incredibly turned off of it that I tried to leave but they let me make a new character as a character I wanted to play, and I decided to give it another chance.
@phobiawitch8352 жыл бұрын
Had a dm that basically did the same thing to me, but only gave me the choice to play my original idea literally minutes before session, where I didn’t have the time to set up the original idea’s sheet given I would need to rely completely on the dm to help buy 10K gold worth of items and magic gear, plus settinf up feats and such (since this was PF1e). It felt like a bone you fake throw for a dog that I turned down, and I ended up playing the character he forced me to take and make with him instead (an NPC named Jaagrath Kreeg that was apparently a Barbarian he reclassed as Anti-Paladin, who he then told me to reclass into Inquisitor of my previous character’s god. Which, btw, had been a HUGE reason I was retiring the cleric character I’d been playing before given how the dm was super strict with my characters that had religious ties and no one elses, even the paladins). I played Jaagrath for a few sessions, missing a couple weeks here and there (and literally nothing stiry based except random pointless homebrew like a Giff encounter) before I was sick and tired of it and just, left, rather than try to get that bone offered previously, since it would be rude to swap characters again. It also helped that there was no reason Jaagrath would continue with the oarty after the arc the dm had me swap to him durinf, which focused around his clan.

I'd been playing AD&D2E for years by the point that I was recruited for a game of 3E D&D, the DM then also chose to recruit me for a Vampire: The Masquerade game they were storytelling. I had never played WoD, but was advised that it was "just like D&D, but with vampires instead". I had a lot of free time on Fridays, so I accepted. After the first D&D3E session, I was given a premade VTM character with a ghoul "henchman", and sent into the world of the Masquerade. I was pretty stoked, even if confused by having to crunch rules for two new game systems in one night. The following morning, I had a call from one of the other players, when my character would've been sleeping. Eager to get a plot underway, I played out my ghoul answering the phone, as in 2E you control any "henchmen" under your command. The plot didn't get anywhere, it was some light banter with my ghoul, who I had been told was a grumpy biker, brushing the other vampire off. Nothing happened further until the next D&D session, when the DM/Storyteller stood up at the table and began to loudly chew me out for metagaming and "cheating" in the Vampire game. They went off that I couldn't "take over the plotline", and that they'd be "keeping extra close eye on me from then on". Throughout that game session, my sorcerer kept being the target of every enemy at the table. Goblins attacking? First round, they'll get attacks of opportunity from the fighter and monk on their way to the back, where they could stab my sorcerer. Wild bear? It takes an attack of opportunity from the fighter and cleric so that it can maul my sorcerer. The fighter got into trouble with the guards, who immediately set to making sure he couldn't get reinforcements from "his magic caster ally". I never got more than an Expeditious Retreat off in the whole session, because before my first turn I'd be dropped to low, or below 0, HP. I didn't go to the following VTM session, nor did I come back to D&D the next week. Both games collapsed a few months later, and the DM/ST told everyone who would listen that it was my fault.

We eventually stopped when we found out the guy systematically nerfed everybody and went out of his way to wreck ideas he was completely fine with when we first brought them up, so eventually me and a few other players just quit. The cherry on top of this delicious shit cake was us finding out the DM groomed his at the time girlfriend, who is a close friend of mine, to become his side piece. So I remember my first real experience with dnd was, fairly unorthodox. I was in college, had never even HEARD of dnd (this was probably in 2016) and a group was playing near my usual hang iut. Not with books or anything though. It was Kingdom Hearts themed. I was able to join for a bit and was playing Scar (we all had disney characters) and it was interesting. Nothing too fantastic but it was nice to do. I didn’t even think about dnd again (other than looking at the free material on dnd beyond and making a tiefling ranger trick-shot, and a noble born Water Genasi Bard, ine of whom I doodled) until about 2018, when coworkers mentioned a game. I listened to their stories and decided to buy the books finally (having seen some in a game store that closed around late 2017) off amazon. Began listening to stuff on youtube (RPG Tales was a youtuber I listened to regularly) and even attempted critical role while working with these coworkers to maybe start a Pirate game (I was originally going to be a Changeling warlock who murdered his own family to make a pact, and serve as the linguist, but changed to a red dragonborn druid when the UA Wildfire Druid dropped, and the dm approved). Then two players broke up and the game fell apart before session 0. Meaning I began talking about maybe tryinf to make a world to run a game in. Very large and ambitious project that honestly overwhelmed me and caused skme burnout so I scrapped it. Then 2020 hit us. I put on CR Campaign 2 while using the pandemic to clean and- I fell in love. Found Reddit and hit LFG. Met 2 dms. Ine with a homebre world, the other running a newbie game. The newbie game turned out to be PF1e and I was okay with it, though that eventually became a rabbit hole of a horror story that ended in November of 2021. The ither dm had a homebrew world that I loved but then…. Session 1 was TERRIBLE, with no sesison 0. Almost jilled another newbie in the last 10 minutes, and I missed session 2 a week later because of family outting. Was kicked from the discord. I checked roll20 months later and found out the game sputtered away after only 2 or 3 sessions total. Later joined an eberron game I left not long into 2021, just before or just after I began running my own game of Icewind Dale. Icewind Dale is still inly about 1/2 or 2/3 done because my group is amazing and we are enjoying ourselves as much as possible still a year and a half later.

Another player randomly kills the newbie, but you don't immediately kill that murder hobo on the very justified reasoning that you don't know when he'll come after you? Wait, the creepy weird DM wanted daily sessions? Just how much time does that guy have? I'm going to point out what I have every time I've heard that 3rd story. Having the character’s clothes stolen after having shit dumped all over her and making her walk around town naked, and ending that scene with a dark figure following her down an alley? Yeah, it almost sounds like he was going there. I can only imagine just how bad it would have gotten if A) the other players hadn’t also been badgering him to let her join the group, forcing the shadowy figure to be a helpful NPC and B) if they continued to play any longer than that one session.

My 1st experience with RPGs, 1E AD&D specifically, was to run the game for a friend who was also new to the game. Because the rules didn't explicitly say otherwise, he rolled up 6 characters and played the entire party, better than any of the horror stories I've heard. We had both read Conan books and comix, we had played a number of wargames like Panzer Leader and Tobruk, and we would have been theater kids if the existing theater kids weren't all assholes.

As much as I love playing ttrpgs with my friends. Playing nightly sounds hellish. No wonder the guy didn't have a story, there's a reason most games are weekly or less. That stuff takes time!? Because if the groups I've run in I've had periods where I was playing about 4 Games a week, which is also a limit I had to set because more then that was exhausting and started cutting seriously into my work time. But even that was 4 different games. I can't imagine how that would have worked if it was the same game meeting 4 times a week.

First game I ever played was a 3.5 game, with 6 other players. My character was a Goliath Barbarian named Grog (I didn't know critical role at this point, and it was the only name in the handbook i could easily pronounce). I had to build the character myself since the DM or players didn't want to hold the game to help, and ended up making Con one of my lower stats. I also played 2 levels lower then the rest of the party since Goliath's are overpowered. So when the party was lvl 5, I was still stuck on level 3. They never told me how to roll for health either, so I was stuck at 14 hp for the majority of the game. My biggest issue was the mini sessions the dm, the evil cleric, and artifer would hold. I left one session after we just saved the town from a chimera, and when I came back next week, the party said the mayor was a vampire. They were fighting him and need me to bring the Artificers armor, and then learned they also emptied out the sewers as well. This was a common occurrence and ended stop playing with them by the third session, due to work schedule

My first time playing D&D was with a DM in third edition, that DM have a strong "DM vs player" mentallity and let me say that he uses the creatures in an imaginative way, my first (And only) game with him was replacing a player that can´t come to the game for family matters, everyone thinks "Oh cool, new character joining the game so he can later add to the party" Right? No, the DM says "We have no cleric so here is the sheet, play with it"... He gave me, a completely noob, the character sheet of other player... It was wrong at so many levels, that I can´t understand it, because I believe at that time that the characters were in the gameplaying the game I was usefull, deactivating traps with rocks, treating wounds with first aid, things like that, so of course the DM was furious, so furious that, in our way home, he says "in the wood you all can see lots and loots of gp, weapons, armors and items, you go there to see that is, in fact, a black dragons den", I was apalled because he don´t let us choose, it was "I say you go, so you go" and thats all, of course the black dragon appears and attacks but, for some mercy of the dice god and good ideas we all survive killing the monster, in the last hit, the ranger use a scroll that transmute his arrow in a some kind of ballystic monstruosity so, it hits and push the dragon, but no, the Dm say taht, in the last hit, the dragon fell off in us and kill us all... no reflexes, dice, nothing, we all flat dead (no puns intended), later we revived in a Elf city, so the veterans think that we were going to be rewarded for killing the monster, but no, we kill HIS ALLY, mind you, a CE dragon were the ally of a LG elf comunity... they resurrect us (but no the dragon, gods konw why) to ask us for MONEY FOR KILLING THE DRAGON AND RESURRECT US, but, here was a twist... all the player were resurrected bu mine, mine was reincarnated... IN AN ORC... so I lost 2 Int, Wis and Cha and get the Str, Dex and Con of the Orc... that was LOWER than the Cleric so, be pissed of and an asshole (I was 14 in the time) I killed the character with a dagger and refuse to be resurrected or reincarnated, the game fell off and, in fact, the rest of the player see that as their way off the game that they´nt enjoiying more...

Not much of a horror story, but my first time playing 5th ed, I had decided to get back into D&D having not played since High School about 12 years at the time, (That school Campaign is still to this day my favrote one), so for this new campaign, I decided to go with what I knew, and recreated my old PC, though now a few years older, LE instead of LN, he was a Paladin oath of Vengence, so come game day I discover I'm not the only new player at the table, (the sorce of this story), so the group found my and new player also playing Paladin, in a jail cell together, after intruductions are done and we get our stuff back off th gaurds, we dicide to take a long rest in the now abandon the fort, it's here other Paladin cast detect Good & Evil to see if she can detect any enemys in the area, so me been LE shows up on the spell, que the other paladin Screaming, yes full on Screaming at the top of her lungs IRL, in a Churchs side room on a Sunday, HE'S EVIL, HE'S EVIL, HE'S EVIL over and over. it was at this point DM called a break, the other Paladin didn't come back after the Break and none of us have seen her since.

I think DMs or players obsessed with making characters pregnant have a pregnancy kink. I enjoy this kink myself, but I don't force it on my D&D party. I also don't hyper sexualize my female characters either. I know that there is a ye and place for my personal kinks and it's not at the table (unless the game is eared towards that theme, which one of our joke campaigns is. And I'm not even a woman in that campaign. My character is a male who dresses as a female. The whole campaign is hilarious).

this videos theme seems to be "assholes ruining the game for new players" and honestly I just feel so bad for the newbies. Like my first game was a bit of a wreck because it was mostly newbies trying to figure out roll20 and dnd at the same time, but just imagining how bad it could have been if the dm or another player was out to get the party just gives me a headache.

I'd never allow PvP with newbies at the table. At least not until maybe level 5, or so. What up Jack? Bart, stop being a dick.

Story 3 is such horse shit. I had something similar happen to me in a campaign where I lost 3 characters in the most ludicrous manner thanks to a certain player.... Character 1: We were in a dungeon and came across a room with a portal in it. On the wall is a lever. Pull the lever up and the portal is a red portal, Pull it down it's a blue portal, and lock it in the middle it's a gold portal.... We squabble for like 20 minutes as to what to do before I decided to go through the blue portal........ This player decided to say "Well he's dead! Let's find a way out!" And literally convinced the group to leave the room abandoning my character...... Oh and FYI my character was teleported onto a massive island to this day waiting for his companions to join him.... Character 2: A Loxodon Fighter.... This character didn't even last 1 session before some stupid shenanigans happened. The group came across my character in a prison cage in this dungeon and let him out. Now this lead to a HUGE problem and when I say huge I mean as in size.... The DM literally said my character was too large and couldn't fit in the hallways because of how narrow they are... Ummmmmmm HOW THE HELL DID MY CHARACTER WIND UP THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE IF HE COULDN'T FIT DOWN ANY HALL?! So said player told the group to "Abandon the fat ass! He's useless to us!" And yet again my character was ditched in a room he can't escape because he's too big...... Also worth noting this player was a wizard with spells he could've used...... Character 3: Goblin Rogue...... The character lasted a grand total of 5 minutes before the group took one look and player said "OMG IT'S A GOBLIN! KILL IT!!!!!!" The character was turned into Corn Beef Hash......... It literally took longer writing the sheet up than the amount of time the character lived...... Needless to say I no longer play in this group.......

That last story was a real failure on the DM's part. You should never have pvp with new players in the group. It can go wrong in so many ways. PVP is for an established group that has demonstrated their ability to handle it.

Frankly that mentality of 'I won't touch edition X because this one thing happened one time and none of the issues were because it was in edition x' is actually super annoying to me. It's not the editions fault that the game was bad, this kind of crap just gives power to Bart and those like him because he was able to bully someone out of an entire system... it also shows how lack luster OP is when it comes to actually playing the games... now everyone can have their own favorite edition mine is Pathfinder 2nd Edition but I will play other systems. I don't care if this comes of as 'victim blaming' because OP in the last story is showing a toxic degree of victim mentality. This same thing I deal with ALL over the place a friend of mine moved to Denver Colorado, responded to the wrong email and got scammed for a sum of money and he blames DENVER for this happening. This OP is the same level of insanity. I truly feel sorry that that event happened to them, because frankly it shouldn't have and bart is a sh*t player i'd never allow at my tables... but honestly after hearing that story I wouldn't allow OP at mine. I don't tolerate that kind of weakness... that's what it is... weakness. I personally had a game in Pathfinder 1st Edition where my character was effectively the victim of attempted forced-adult-naughties and ultimately was knocked out by the attackers father and only because one of my party members followed me did I survive because she was able to drag my body out and get me to safety. This wasn't the only instance where this kind of thing happened in that game (I didn't stick around long) but it wasn't AT ALL the only time it happened. I don't blame the system, I don't blame my race/gender/preferences, I blame the DM being the problem player. I was a victim of his depravity but I don't victimize myself and give him that power over me. I know doing this can be hard but frankly people need to toughen up, i'm a very emotional and sensitive person which is why i'm going on this tangent that people will probably only read half of it, call me an a**hole and move on... but you CAN NOT give scum like my DM and Bart that kind of pull over you... by letting them do that to you... you've lost.
