I've been working on my next video, and the build part of the video is finished! I still have a lot to do with the editing, but wanted everyone to know a second video is on its way! Thanks for all of the kind comments both on and off KZbin!

Hi Doug, I found your channel and video of the Quarto game on Jay Bates weekly list of "Interesting Stuff From Around The Web". For a first time video, I was thoroughly impressed with your ease in front of a camera. Also you Voice over was so descriptive and thorough, I'm going to make a go at making the game. I hope you put out more videos soon and I subscribed so I'll be notified of up coming videos. Way to go, and congrats on making Jay's list. Best I have seen in awhile. ~Dolly

Excellent job, Doug! Are you using any particular types of wood? You mentioned oak and maple for scrap pieces, but I didn't catch it if you mentioned it for the actual board and game pieces.
@DNHandcrafted8 жыл бұрын
Bette Anne Mellentine Thanks! And you are quite right --- oh well! I used Bur Oak and Black Walnut for the pieces shown most frequently in the video. The other pieces were Hard Maple and Cherry. The board was made from Red Oak.

Thanks buddy! I am not sure exactly, but hours and hours and hours. I was re-learning Premier Pro, and also learning how to use Blender for the few 3D models I used in the video. Then there was recording the voice over, etc. I think it would go a lot faster next time! (At least I hope it would).

Hey, Doug... I notice you're using a Harbor Freight (Central Machinery) stationary belt sander. How do you feel about that unit? I've read both good and bad reviews, and I know you get what you pay for (especially at HF), but I'm wondering if it's worth the relatively cheap price. My 32 year old Shopsmith unit just gave up the ghost, so I need something, and the JET is -- at this moment -- out of my reach.
@DNHandcrafted7 жыл бұрын
Hey Dale! You absolutely get what you pay for at HF, haha. I got this one on sale and with a discount I think, so didn't pay too much for it (Maybe around $60?). It wouldn't even start without help right out of the box. The belt tension was easy enough to adjust, even though I can still stall it with enough pressure (and it still needs help starting from time to time). However, all that being said, it does what I need and I use it all the time - though I am not sure the disc is 100% true/flat. I have an 80 grit disc and a 120 grit belt which works well for what I want without gouging the wood too bad. It was too aggressive with a 80 grit belt. To summarize, its currently working for me (I think I've had it about a year) - but your milage will vary :D

Amazing video! Nicely Done. Great camera work. Are your renders done in Fusion?
@DNHandcrafted7 жыл бұрын
+Small Shop Works thank you for the kind words! I use Fusion for some modeling but my renders are done in Blender 3D. I think on this one I modeled the board in fusion and the pieces in Blender.

Doug, random question, are you putting dust collection just to the fence/top of the router table or do you have dust collection going to the underside of the router table too?
@DNHandcrafted8 жыл бұрын
Seth Messer just the top. The bottom is fully open and I just vacuum or sweep it up when I clean the shop floor. Dust collection is a few wet/dry vacs right now.

Hi Doug, Great job! I hate to say it but this is a worldwide copyrighted product by Gigamic - which they released in 1991 and is still on the market - it would be good to at least mention them. en.gigamic.com/game/quarto-classic
@DNHandcrafted8 жыл бұрын
Until I read your comment, I didn’t even consider someone would think the game was original to me (and hopefully they don’t). On the printable rules on my site, I credit the author - but I’m embarrassed that information didn't make it anywhere else - it certainly wasn’t intended to be malicious. I’ve updated both my website page and the video description with information about Gigamic, Blaise Müller, and a link to the official game. Thank you for your comment!
