This is my story too! We bought our house last yr and yard is a mess. Dead and bald spots! We hired landscaping contractors to fix the ground because we had more than a dozen tree stumps removed cause it was getting too close to our house's foundation. Anyway, you inspire me that we can have a lawn like this one!

I gotta tell you something. That step where you pat the seed down with your foot might be the most important part, and people often forget it. I’ve always heard how seed to soil contact is important. But a few years ago I replaced the cover over my sprinkler valves, and when I was packing the dirt in around it, the parts where I packed it good with seed popped SP much faster than the parts where I didn’t. And it was kinda junky sandy soil too! Definitely important. Beg/borrow/steal a roller if you’re doing a large area!! I also like peat moss! Had good luck with just sprinkling some soil on top too if that’s all you have handy.

The garden weisel works great if the ground is soft. If its hard and dried out, i will usually water it for a while to soften it up. Also, if the ground is basically mud, it will straight up rip out adult grass instantly and the roots. So you gotta pay attention to the status of the soil. Good video.

@geniepreece2216 I've done it for 24 to 48 hours, changing the water (very important) out every 12 hours. Keep it in a warm area like your garage or shed.You will know it's ready to put down when you start to see roots. I mix it with fertilizer so I can use a spreader. If not, it will clump up in the spreader. Hope this helps

I've had issues with my lawn for 2 years. My wife bought a garden weasel for weeds and we never thought to use it to plant grass but we did a couple of months ago, threw down some manure and then top soil over that and bam! Grass!. Will try peat moss in another spot as we've been experimenting with different things. Great video.

Learned something yesterday. Went to Lowes today and bought their version of the Weasel. It was $35, and it was worth it. Did one large spot in the back yard that has been troublesome for a while. Rolled it, seeded it, rolled it lightly again then dropped some Milorganite and watered. Took care of the side of the house where it was dug up to replace a water line. They did a lousy job filling and leveling the dirt and then seeding. I fixed it once and got some growth. Took the tine tool to it today as well with the same process. Got some rain coming this week. Hoping to see some good results within a week or two. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

I will definitely go get one of those tools. Does that thing do any lawn aeration? It may not go deep enough not sure.
@LawnAmateur
@LawnAmateur 8 ай бұрын
It doesn't go deep enough to really aerate the lawn. It'll make small holes

It would be great to see a before and after this process. Do you have a vid for that? Ie the after and how long it took to germinate. Thanks for the easy to follow videos!

All good stuff. I would've gone ahead a put down some starter fertilizer and definitely watered the area daily for maximum results. I've also seen some ppl use regular pottery mix instead of the peat moss. Both work fine in this scenario.
@LawnAmateur
@LawnAmateur 8 ай бұрын
I always wait atleast 7-10 days before putting the starter fertilizer down to give the seeds a chance to germinate first

New to the page, would you be able to use the garden weasel as a method to dethatch? Also, what seed would you recommend to put down?
@LawnAmateur
@LawnAmateur 8 ай бұрын
It really wouldn't be a good dethatcher. And grass seed, it really depends on what look you're going for and what climate you live in

Scott’s has a seed starter fertilizer, it that something that helps when over seeding?
@LawnAmateur

Yes starter fertilizer does help. I never apply it during the overseeding process I give the seeds about 7-10 days to germinate then I apply starter fertilizer
