22:59 I saw another video about that play. From what I remember, the runner was called out based on a technicality in the replay review system. Basically, the umpire on the field called the runner safe because he beat the tag, however, he did not signal that the runner was pushed off, which he should have. Because of this, when the defending team challenged the call, replay showed that the runner was tagged while off the base. Since replay doesn't care why the runner was off the base, he was called out after review (A fielder pushing a runner off a base is not reviewable and must be called by the on-field umpire at the time of the play). If the umpire had called the push off of the base, the runner would have been safe as that part of the play was already called by the on field umpire. Just a very weird loophole of MLB's replay review system.

You both are partially correct First base: run straight and touch, you're automatically safe (you lose this protection if trying to go toward 2nd base at all) Home plate: touch and you're safe 2nd & 3rd base: you MUST physically maintain contact with the base to remain safe It was absolutely a terrible call, officiating is unbelievably/criminally bad sometimes, but we'll NEVER replace umps with robots because of tradition/unions

On the topic of concussions, NASCAR driver Kurt Busch got a concussion at Pocono last year, and just over a year later had not returned to racing and announced he was still not medically cleared to race and struggles from the effects of the injury. He officially retired over a year after the wreck. Concussions are REALLY nasty, especially when they start repeating.

This video was made right before the *magic bullet* hitting 2 woman at the White Sox v A’s game in Chicago. Larger than normal attendance because there was a free concert right after the game (Vanilla Ice, I believe 😂.) Two woman are shot in the stands, they are escorted out & the game continues. After the game, fans find out the concert is canceled due to technical problems. Fans and media are still unaware of what happened in the 3rd inning!! After news broke, cops said it was an isolated incident and gun was mostly fired outside the stadium. Narrative changes to (this is the best): One of the woman brought the gun & it accidentally went off. She made it through the metal detectors by hiding the gun in her belly fat rolls - she has since denied this. Baseball, guns, fat people 🇺🇸😭

Perhaps one of the strangest things this season was the often vilified Philly fans outpouring of support for a struggling Trea Turner. Prior to the standing ovation from the Philly faithful his batting avg was .235 and his slugging% was a measly .368. Since then (Aug 4) his batting avg is .370 and his slugging% is .704. That's a player who is now earning his $300 million contract! Now if only our pitching could stay consistent...☹️

To add to your final remark about the possibility of Ohtani going to Seattle and ending the Mariners' World Series drought, there would be another story arc going on if that happened: Seattle was (and still is) the team of Ichiro Suzuki, who played for the Mariners for many years and was a much-revered sports hero for many young Japanese baseball players and fans who grew up in the 2000s--including a certain Shohei Ohtani. Ichiro (who is often known just by his first name) retired from playing in 2019, but is still in Seattle as he is now a member of the Mariners front office. Over the years, Ohtani has developed a friendship with Ichiro, and whenever the Angels play in Seattle, they can be seen meeting up during pregame warmups. There are those who speculate that Ohtani would want to play for a team other than the Mariners so as to secure his own legacy rather than being referred to as "the next Ichiro," but who knows? Perhaps he will be the one to take his childhood idol's team to the World Series.

Dodgers makes a lot of sense. They can pay him a ton of money, LA is where the stars are, west coast is close to home, and like Ichiro in Seattle, Hideo Nomo (first major Japanese star player in MLB) played there and was a huge phenomenon for his day. Major issues with the UCL injury however, especially now that the Dodgers are really struggling with starting pitching needs (Julio Urias + injuries to other starters). So, who knows where Ohtani winds up. Seattle very well could be a possibility.

So with Elly he has been a touch overrated. A lot of Reds fans think he’s gonna be terrible which is stupid I might add. He has just had a lot of flashy plays but he is very strikeout prone and looks sometimes acts like things are too easy which leads to brain lapses and errors. But overall dude is gonna be great.

As somebody who has watched mega-market teams like the Yankees buy up the very best talent for years, it's always enjoyable to watch them crash and burn while a "budget" ball club like the Orioles show them how its done. Same thing has kind of happened to the Mets (spent huge money for subpar results), but that franchise has always had its problems, so I actually feel bad for Mets fans because they finally have ownership that is willing to do what it takes to win and it was an enormous bust, probably one of the worst front office gambles in recent memory. If I had to bet, I'd say Ohtani goes the LAD for a variety of reasons, but he had a recent UCL injury so that really puts a monkey wrench into things because the Dodgers are hurting for starting pitching (lost one of their best pitchers to some kind of domestic violence stuff, I haven't been following, but it's a repeat problem and was bad enough he's off the team and they painted over murals that featured him/etc). I'm still amazed Boone has his job in NYY. The rough part of that ejection when he was mocking the umpire is the umpire shot right back at Boone (when Boone said he stinks), Dias just replied "and what do you do? you stink!" or something like that. It was savage (there is a jomboy breakdown of it, maybe you've already reacted). The Yankees have lacked core pieces for most of this season and they didn't make any big moves at the trade deadline, so their front office seems okay with this kind of result which is really mystifying given how vicious the fans and NY sports media can be.

As a former oakland resident I have major love for the Town and think it's messed up that they allowed all the teams to be taken from the city. And i'm a Niners and Giants fan. A rival. But they shouldn't do what they do to the people of Oakland just cause they aren't a rich town that wants to give tax dollars for a stadium when the city needs other things.

The umpires union makes it almost impossible to fire bad umps but they can keep them from umping the biggest games. Angel hernandez sued the mlb for discrimination cause he hadn't umped a world series game in years or some shit and basically the answer from the league was "yeah you suck and we want to keep you away from big games."

Montreal Expos (they moved to DC, became the Nationals, in 2004) were the Oakland A’s. MLB *somewhat* got away with what they did to that franchise because social media wasn’t as mainstream. NBA to the NFL, have done this too. I could understand moving the Tampa Bay Rays to Orlando or something but it’s the way they do it. That play at 2nd base was definitely an umpire mistake. A fielder can't push a runner off a base. The runner must keep contact with the base at all times unless time is called, which they usually do after the play is over. The umpire called the runner safe but never acknowledged the push off attempt by the fielder. Once the play hits review, they can only review if safe or out while disregarding the push off. Just a mind blowing technicality that needs to be corrected moving forward.

It feels to me like the ball-strike calls at home plate have been more erratic this year than ever before. I can understand Boone's frustration, but you know when you go out there to make your point that you will be ejected. Sometimes you just gotta vent. Orioles still in first place, now by 3 games, Astros have caught and passed the Rangers. Royce Lewis (Twins) is another rookie who looks like the real deal.

Golden State used to play in Oakland as well for the NBA, but they moved in 2019 across the bay and now play in San Francisco. So Oakland has really gotten screwed. The Braves specifically AA the GM likes to lock up young players before they hit FA to huge team friendly deals. I just don’t see them giving out a big contract even for a massive superstar like Ohtani. Then again the Braves also just became publicly traded company so they might be in the picture

It's Baseball, that's how it works. It's one of the reasons why Baseball is so garbage, no matter how small of a market team you have in the NFL or NBA, you always have a legitimate chance to change things for the better, and for that change to be sustainable for years and years. With MLB, if you can draft super well and have a really good GM who can make really smart moves with whatever payroll he has, and a really good manager, you are still at best only going to be able to hover around making the postseason each year (like the Brewers).

I was at the game where Elly hit for the cycle, and he looks amazing and produces cool highlights, but the highlights are all most people get to see out of him. I'm assuming he will progress and become one of the league's better players over the next few years, but right now he isn't too great, and many others have had better rookie seasons. Julio Rodriguez, Aaron Judge and Mike Trout are some that come to mind in recent history.

Dodgers WAS the primary location for Ohtani but that UCL injury has complicated things. Also, the Angels willingness to trade Trout in the off season complicates things also in that the SF Giants are a main team in on Shohei, but I think they'd be more inclined to trade for Trout who's already under contract. Ohtani goes to LAD or SF. Their bidding war will get out of hand.

Orioles were expected to be good by 2023-2024 based of a rebuild of their team. People give 3-6 years for rebuilds, depends on how deep their rebuild is. Orioles' rebuild was deep. They had one of the worst minor league depth in the league! Now, it's actually scary how their minor league system was starting last year. It's weakened because they brought up so many of their prospects, but their minor league system is still really, really great! Orioles are proving a good rebuild helps! The Pittsburgh Pirates are following that motto very well! The Cincinnati Reds & Seattle Mariners are kinda going that route.

De La Cruz had a great couple weeks start to his career but has fallen off a cliff since. His numbers on the year are pretty bad now. I think he will be an amazing player, just take time to adjust but he has all the tools to be great.

He should have been safe at second, you can't force a runner off the base, sometimes you can get away with blocking a bit.

Isn’t this what baseball needed to be watchable again to the avg person? They changed the rules and now they got some drama. What are the ratings? I might watch a game.

I think Ohtani stays on the west coast because he's way closer to home. Dodgers or Mariners are my top two for him.

For context on the absurd overreaction, the O's are owned by a lawyer lol Only good things he's done are help Cal Ripken Jr save his Ironman games streak (through the strike season) and keep Camden Yards pristine

De La Cruz makes for great highlights, but overall he's had a pretty bad season. He's got a below .300 On-Base Percentage, and though he's slugged a bit and run well, he's still doing 13% worse than your "average" MLB hitter overall (87 OPS+). The Reds have *also* had a bunch of other rookies who have done legitimately amazingly, including: (1) Matt McLain, who plays all over the infield, is slashing .290/.357/.500, and is playing great defense, (2) outfielder Will Benson, who is slashing .279/.370/.500, and (3) First baseman Spencer Steer who's popped 20 home runs and also slashing .270/.360/.450. And all of these guys are running like the wind; they've each got over a dozen stolen bases on the year. The whole team is playing with sizzle, speed (except for old grumpy man Joey Votto, who's also one of the game's great characters), and panache and it's really cool to watch.

There are more than a dozen rookies better than Elly de la Cruz this season alone; hell, there are 3 or 4 rookies on his own team who have been better. If you only see the hype and highlights, he looks extraordinary, but the reality is he's a deeply flawed player. He's certainly capable of cleaning things up and fulfilling his potential, but he's a long way from that point right now.

The White Sox are the worst team in baseball. This was supposed to be the year they competed for the World Series. They're going to lose 100 games. Everyone knew the A's would suck. The A's attendance has increased in 2023. The White Sox have suffered the biggest attendance drop at over 3,000.

De La Cruz is actually not playing well, but he did enter the league on fire. He'll be a future star but hes been talked about a bit too much. Hes strikeout percentage is near 40% which is horrendous

Boys let me tell you something ..as a life-long Yankee fan.. yes I am old ..since 1965 I cannot express strongly enough how upsetting and disappointing and unbearable this yankee team has been this year!!,,,, it has been a complete and utter nightmare!!... I know I speak for many Yankee fans when I say that this year has been exhausting!!!

Baseball is broken. Not because of the umpires, but because there is no salary cap and proper revenue sharing. NFL, NHL are both much better for it.

21:22 It wasn't a dirty play by Anderson. Nor was the other tag that TA placed on Jose Ramirez dirty. Ramirez hysterically overreacted, grabbed at Anderson's crotch and stuck his finger in his face. Ramirez triggered the fight, not Tim, and Ramirez is the "bad guy" in this incident. Tim had every right to defend himself. MLB got this story wrong as did the media. Unfortunately, TA left his chin exposed. Tim Anderson is the subject of much hatred, some of it racially based, due to misinterpreted comments about Jackie Robinson. There are legit reasons to dislike TA such as lazy throws, lack of concentration and bringing his personal issues to the ballpark. One last thing. Yasmani Grandal told a local radio station that the claim that he slapped teammate Tim Anderson was not true.
