What I think you can't underestimate when flying in jets, Sturdy demonstrates this really well, is keeping a level tone of voice and not distracting your wingman by being loud and obnoxious. Also giving clear, accurate and quick precise call outs of targets, hostile jets etc. and lastly being the fucking Terminator equivalent in a Jet.

You cant see anything without spotting. Thanks to the deferred rendering, everything blends in with the ground, so its impossible to see enemy ground vehicles etc. on maps like Caspian or Firestorm.

When you're in first person mode there are 2 boxed numbers on each side of the HUD. The left side boxed number is your airspeed and the other is your altitude. Just look at the HUD in this video at any point when Levelcap is flying in first person view.

one tip I could say is when your turning in a jet ALWAYS put and angle on your turn and the more you randomize your angles the better

No, whenever I get into these turning fights, I use the afterburner and brake in such a way that it turns the just in a more abrupt way, which ends up in getting on the other jets tail, there is also another way, in which you do an angled climb and flip onto his tail while he is turning.

The 'limited mouse pad lench' has been countered: When you pitch (up or down) and "release the mouse"/('stop moving it on the pad'), the jet will keep pitching for about 1 sec which allows you to move you mouse down again without loosing angle in dogfights. It still is anoying to keep sliding you mouse up though. So I might start using the space bar as pitch as you surgested in looping ;)

All you have to do to land a jet is to level the jet about 15-30 feet off the ground and slam the brakes while gently bringing the plane down. I wish I could show it in a video but I can't. Also, to make tight turns, you keep your speed around 305-315 knots during the turns. Jet's are simple once you learn the basics, it's just what technique you use during dogfights that decide the victor.

just a tip for all you jet pilots...always have a friend waiting at base with the repair tool if your a good jet pilot when you get disabled, if you can, return to base land and get your friend to repair you

As your landing disabled, roll the plane slightly to the left or right and nose down. The rolling effect causes the plane to tilt slightly, allowing gravity to take effect more. Trust me it works.

I headshot foot mobiles in hardcore, mostly snipers or guys repairing / using turrets. Got to look for indicators of foot movement and activity. Its hard at first because you have to be kind of low but once you catch on, learn hot spots, and get used to the idea of taking multiple passes it gets easier. Keep an eye out for tracers, they work both ways and will betray a sniper faster than scope glint. It also helps to know the little things that stick up off the terrain like lights and speakers.

Jet Combat- You have to outsmart your enemy, learn to use speed, know when to speed up and when to slow down, when to turn, when not to turn. Flying in BF3 is about outsmarting your opponent and at some point they'll end up in your sights, and you can down them easily. It's a common error of most players to keep going fast to a point they overshoot the target and get killed.

Sometimes it's impossible to shake a eagle, and maybe your teammate is being trailed as well. So that gunship or support aircraft can really help you out

Its 310-315. 305 is fine vs most pilots. Anything above 315 will cause your turns to widen. In horizontals you pull more G's at 310 knotts, around 10g's to be exact, while at 315 knotts you pull around 9-9.5g's in horizontals. For loops, 315 is where you want to be, but if you can't maintain speed well yet, you can learn how to cut, which effectively tightens your loop. Cutting involves "rounding" the top of loops, taking them at an angle, instead of flying straight up.

ok they dont know what you were asking, basically hit the brakes of the plane and hold them down (not sure what button it is, check settings because i changed mine) keep pressing select to spot soldiers and vehicles, then when youre close to the ground, pull up so your jet is straight again, and go for another run :)

I find it more a matter of draw distance, after trying it on PC you can actually see spotted people on the ground instead of the V appearing not that far off the ground, plus a lot of stuff that you can run into doesn't render into the game until your right next to it on Consoles, but you can see it to avoid on Pc.

nice job, and yeah, the guy is pretty beast. both of you are pretty damn good. on that landing technique, its going to take practice while disabled. its the best way to do it, but there will still be moments it bounces you 10 ft off the ground in a never ending stall. try not to get too frustrated, it just happens :)

I actually like big ticket servers, maybe not 500%(way too long), but something like 200-300% is perfect for learning how to fly the jets and helicopters because you can get a lot more flying time this way..

The landing gear comes down according to altitude as well as speed. You probably just flew straight and your loss in speed caused the jet to eventually lose altitude and lower the gear. Fly low to the ground while slowing down to get the landing gear out.

Rebind pitch up and down to w and s instead and use other buttons for throttle and afterburner. Makes a world of difference.

Just a tip for everyone...BIND PITCH TO SPACEBAR. If you dont like joysticks, spacebar is the perfect middle ground for dogfighting. Its basically a ghetto joystick. You can become a top tier 1v1 dogfighter with spacebar. You dont need a joystick to compete with the best.

Hey Sturdy if you're still reading this, can you implement this into your guide or give me some feedback? You said in this video that you maintain a 315 airspeed. However, I've constantly heard that 280 is the optimal airspeed for the maximum turns, and from what I've experienced (I'm also a console player) it seems to be true. When I stay around 280 I'm able to outmaneuver most jets. This is conquest jets I'm referring to. I'm not sure what speed is good for the best turns in rush.

The thing I hate about using the mouse to fly a jet, you have to keep pushing down/up the mouse to pitch instead of it doing it on it's own. I lose mouse space and have to reposition the mouse to try and keep up with who I'm following. Is there a way around this?

i do not want to teach you guys, but i just found out a pretty useful trick, if you are flying a jet and want to attack infantry or any ground target,in my opinion the best way to take it out is to get some altitude and then pitch down and hold S (slow down as much as posible so you have time to shoot everything you can) and when u think u are too close to the ground,smash the shift button to put the afterburner on and pitch back up, and repeat,it can also be useful on choppers :)

What I've learned from jets is that it's still a team effort and ya need another jet to help ya can't be alone in the air and expect to dominate. Also Jets can be used air to ground not just waiting for aerial vehicles, it's not just a circling dog fight when 2 jets are in the air. I've dodged long enough for my friends(Jet/Chopper/AA/or Engineer w/Lock-on missiles) to take out the guy behind me. I'm on console (PS3)

The only thing I don't like about jets on console is that spotted infantry doesn't render until you're within 100 feet of them while flying, which in turn makes killing infantry hard as hell to do.

Practice makes perfect its extremely hard. Make sure you are coming in low and level. When in doubt, just bail. Chances are when if you try to land or, if you can manage it they will just strafe you on the ground. Then you run the risk of them stealing your plane.

310-315 knotts is the optimal turning speed for jets people!!!! 310 for horizontals and 315 for vertical loops. In horizontals you pull more G's at 310 than you do at 315 and in loops you can pull a consistent 10g's+ with 312-315 knotts!!

I am a really good heli pilot for the support, me and 3 of my friends average 150+ kills a conquest match on operation firestorm, it's all about speed and angle
