'The perfect body is not the one you already have. But that's okay. Imperfection can be worked upon. If we never strive for better, we will never progress. And if we never progress, we will never get anywhere better. If you are working towards betterment then you should be happy with wherever you are. As it should not only be the destination that satisfies you, but also the road you take. Let the journey bring you light.' - Jesus. ;-)

Fat vegan here! Totally thought I would be shedding the pounds when I went vegan, but change is slow. Problem is I still eat out a lot, I don’t exercise, and I use lots of processed foods. I am VERY hesitant telling people I’m vegan because I get the double take and the doubts. I still feel 💯% better than when I was eating meat, dairy, and eggs. Skin is way better. Energy level through the roof. Nails are strong, but the weight loss just isn’t happening.

It's really eye opening to hear you all talk about this topic with your personal insecurities because you're all so beautiful and to me, you're all thin. But it just goes to show how our society's negative messages get to EVERYONE, regardless of how you actually look. It's definitely a mental thing. I've had someone tell me it's "nice to see a bigger vegan" (talking about me, because I'm overweight). They said it was meant as a compliment, but it did make me a little sad to be reminded of the vegan-body-type-expectations.

as a teenager in high school i feel like i needed to hear this. however for me its the opposite. I am always being yelled at to eat some meat so that i can get some fat or that i need to become "thick". I just wish that people would stop judging people based on the shell of their soul instead of there actual personality and true self! Thank you so much girls you are all SUCH a huge inspiration to me!

I didn't mention this in the video but I was a really late bloomer, so actually, all throughout growing up and in early high school I was very slim without trying to be. I would often have people ask me if I was "sick" -- even adults! It's not okay on any spectrum to talk about someone's weight to them, and you're so right... it's about what's on the inside. I'm so happy you liked the video, and just know you're not alone. xo

@kateliness2 7 жыл бұрын
You are definitely not alone! Don't worry - it's highly unlikely that you'll have such a high metabolism well into adulthood :) I was called too slim throughout high school as well (late bloomer like Hannah) but that definitely went away later. And even if it doesn't, you are beautiful the way you were born to be.

I think the hardest thing for me was following vegans that talked about losing weight being vegan. I didn’t become vegan to lose weight, but I thought this was a great perk. I have always struggled with my weight, but let me say this being 54 and going through menopause made that even worse. I think because I already ate healthy before going vegan, no fast food or high fat foods, I didn’t lose any weight and yes I do have to count calories or I gain weight, something many vegans say to stop counting calories. It was discouraging because so many vegans are like ‘you will lose weight’. This is not true for everyone and no I am not a vegan junk food eater. I think people should really know that it depends on your body, age and what you were doing prior to going vegan.

Yep I'm the same I've been Vegan for 2 years and I eat wayyy more healthier then I used to with much more fruit, salad, greens and veges...however I'm kinda half and half as in I sometimes will have processed junk vegan food when i'm too lazy...or i'll be eating super healthy...but I haven't had any amazing weight drop like I've seen so many others have and its like argh a lil disappointing. Regardless overall it doesn't matter that I haven't cos I love being Vegan and I don't only do it for health. Oh and I have had some health benefits...I do feel much better eating this way.

caramelushca I am so happy that more people are talking about this. I can’t and never have been able to eat more than 1,000 calories or I gain weight. To lose I can only eat between 850-950. It has been this way my whole life. I have had people tell me, “you can’t lose because you’re starving yourself” . This is not correct. You have to live in my body to know how it works and it doesn’t matter if I eat 1,000+calories of all vegetables, I will still gain weight. I love being vegan!, but I wish people would stop the intuitive vegan eating for weight loss. It does not work for everyone.
@caramelushca
@caramelushca 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, sadly it's not that easy for everyone. Intuitive eating works for most people, but not for all. I tried eating intuitively for 3 years and only ended up gaining weight, on a whole food plant based diet. I gave it time but it just didn't work for me because diet is not everything. If you have certain health issues, genetic predispositions or a very stressful life, losing weight may just not be as easy as eating intuitively. There are definitely other things factoring in besides diet. Diet is a big part of it, but it's not the ONLY thing!

as a dancer, i struggle with body image all the time. i’m constantly counting calories and freaking out about what i’m eating, even though it’s all vegan and “healthy food”. i’m not the skinnest girl in the world, but i am nowhere near overweight. i’m trying to just accept that i’ll never be “perfect”, and that i should just live life eating what i want and enjoying myself rather than constantly worrying about what i look like. thank you ladies for making such an awesome video💗💗

I am heavy from before being vegan. I have a medical thing that makes it harder to lose weight. But I don’t fluctuate since I cut out dairy ( since I found out that I had an allergy to dairy) . I had a really crazy schedule and I didn’t cook so lots of processed stuff. I am slowly making healthy changes, cooking more, eating healthier. But ppl always get that shocked look when I say that I am vegan cause I am 40 ish pounds overweight ( even tho I lost 35 pounds) you girls inspire me so much XO Davita

When I first went vegan 5 months ago I actually gained weight. About 12lbs. I was so upset, I thought I was doing it wrong or there was something wrong with me because I would see everyone else slim down on the vegan lifestyle. I was putting a lot of oil in everything. Pasta was my go-to meal and nut mixes we're my go-to snack. I'm glad my journey has been different than everyone else's because I have done so much more research on the health properties of different foods, super foods, and different vegan diets (hclf, raw, fruitarians, etc.)

This was a great conversation. I can sooo relate. Now that's I'm post menopausal in my sixties and my natural youthful beauty is fading and I'm carrying more fat, it's really hard to feel like I'm a good ambassador for being vegan. But I feel healthy and energized and happy in life. I am confident my vegan diet is serving me and the planet well. It's our spirits that make us beautiful whatever our bodies look like.

Thank you ladies for making this video. I feel body shaming in the Vegan movement is getting out of hand especially with social media. And It’s very sad the movement is being reduced to abs and thigh gaps. I recently returned to Veganism and I’m very overweight but i have more confidence now then when I first went Vegan. The difference is I’m older and with age I have a love and appreciation for what God has given me. Plus I realize people to an extant bring their personalities into the Vegan movement. People who were judgmental and mean before becoming Vegan probably will continue to be that way after being Vegan. I just live my life with gratitude and purpose and try to stay in alignment with the most High.

Nicole, as someone who works, has a family, gets stressed and tired and honestly sometimes resentful of others I am seeing who get to not work and 'follow their dreams' and eat breakfast an hour after having lemon water every day (insert high pitched annoying voice here) I just want to say go you for being REAL and I would want to hear MORE from someone like you who understands that some days you just can not do it. And that is ok. You are beautiful Nicole. Thank you!

I love this so so much! You ladies are always so compassionate and relatable! I think it’s important to make the point that there is more than one interpretation of “health” because often veganism can lead to or be a mask for orthorexic behaviors. There’s a million ways to be healthy and a million ways to be vegan and one is not better than the other and once you’ve found peace with a good lifestyle than the body you have will be the body you want. You all made amazing points and I continue to be inspired by you all 💚

This is such a good video. I have always struggled with body image issues since as early as 3rd grade. I was always a tiny girl, healthy but right at the bottom of "healthy" weight. I was also always the smallest in my classes and among my friends and I loved it. I don't know why, but it became a wierd obsession with everything from weight to shoe size. I remember one time at a friends birthday party we were giving each other piggy back rides and just casually chatting about how much we weighed. I was 42lbs and one of my friends said she was 37, I mean we were tiny little 10 year olds and I am probably the only one who stressed about it. It's really sad to remember those things and wish I could tell my younger self it doesn't matter. I didn't do anything to change my weight until middle school, I would try to eat really healthy and started to workout outside of my dance lessons. I have always felt bizzare fuel from being told I'm tiny or comments on how small I am and it's really hard to shake off those kinds of obsessions. I went vegan when I was 15 around a year and a half ago and it has really helped my body image so much. I have always wanted to help animals in anyway I could and had thought about not eating them and one day I saw an article about veganism and easy healthy weight loss and told my parents that day I was going vegan. I didnt loose any weight after going vegan because I don't think I actually had/have any to loose I just had/have a distorted body image. I have though been introduced into a community of people focused on health and loving their body's which had. Even amazing for me. It's funny to me how my health journey came from a dark place, but now I eat healthy to feel good and workout because I love the way it makes me feel and I actually think it's fun. I do sometimes struggle to tell people I'm vegan. This is mostly on my track team for my school because I am one of the slowest and I have never been a fast runner, I'm in great shape and use running as fitness and stresss relieving to complement my Pure Barre and dancing, but I don't want people to think they will be slow too if they go vegan. That is so not true and this comment is so crazy long as always lol. Thanks for all the great content

Can you guys please do a video on like diet and workout obsession? I find a lot of people in the vegan community struggle with this. My New Years resolution was to actually incorporate more "unhealthy" vegan foods into my diet because I was getting such anxiety and fear over foods with oils or sugar or too processed and honestly it was controlling my life and I was so unhappy and I feel that some people in the vegan community really push that mentality

little lonny I totally agree! I actually feel sooo much better too! Like before when I was eating so clean for some reason my digestion was all off and if I ate anything the slightest bit processed or with oil I felt soooo sick to the point where I would sometimes throw up cause I felt so nauseous. Now that my body is used to things like oil and gluten and some sugars I'm able to eat it and not always feel so sensitive to food! I still eat tons of whole Foods and healthy meals but I also eat the "junk" a lot and it's helped me so much :)

Due to a traumatic accident, I sadly do not have a healthy body. I am unable to work, many days I can't even leave the house. I was a vegetarian when I had this accident, but then went vegan for ethical reasons, never paying much attention to the health benefits. Feeling worse and worse every day, I started doing research into healthy eating, and finally now I am a vegan on a whole food plant based diet. I feel so much better!!! Even on my worst days, I focus on cooking/creating healthy meals, and know how important the good healthy food is for my body. (mentally as well - who does not feel good after a large bowl of oatmeal with lots of nuts and fruit?)

Thanks so much for making this video! Nikki, I loved meeting you girls at VegFest and I thought you looked great! I've struggled with weight my entire life and still do, a lot. There's enough societal pressure to look a certain way as it is, being vegan makes it even harder. My job is really stressful and I end up not taking care of myself very well and subsequently don't like going out because I feel ashamed of the way I look. My goal for this year is to be more kind to myself and more confident in not caring what others think. It's so helpful when other people who I think are beautiful have similar issues. It honestly makes all the difference. 💚

I just got turned onto you gals recently and I’m loving your channel! ❤️ I loved this video in particular because this is such an important topic. I know that all people (women in particular) have insecurities...I think being older and also after having kids makes me care a little less about what people think (I love that my body is capable to push a human body out too! 😉 and dance, do yoga, walk around Disneyland all day, etc! 😁) With that being said, I am a plus size vegan. I try to eat healthy...mostly whole food plant based. But what can I say...I love my vegan ice cream, the occasional vegan burger and fries, and yes....I do like to drink beer and wine! At almost 44 years old, I know that life is meant to be enjoyed while trying to live as compassionately as possible. I’m also realizing that I am “that girl” who looks back and didn’t enjoy my “skinny body” when I had it! But hey, when I weighed 50lbs less, I ate meat and smoked cigarettes....I think I’m in a better place health wise now! Thanks for talking about this! However, I do wish you had a guest on that represented a different body type than yours because in my eyes you are all “skinny perfect vegans”. It’s nice to know you have insecurities too but at the same time, it would be great to hear from someone who does struggle with being a heavier vegan and being judged for that.

THANK YOU GUYS SM FOR THIS VIDEO, I struggle with the exact same thing. Especially bc I went vegan a year after recovering from an eating disorder where I was at an unhealthy weight/mindset. And in that recovering year I gained weight, then gained more a little bit more after going vegan when I got excited about all the fake meat/cheese products and am now 10lbs over weight and also the biggest I've ever been. Im still trying to lose that weight and its always stressful going home (I go to college in nyc) and telling people Im vegan bc I feel like Im not a good image of veganism right now. Long story short, this video couldn't have come at a better time, great to hear that Im not alone in feeling this way!

It's really scary and I am confused about my body type. when I started losing weight people would mention it and that would make me happy. As a man after I went vegan I lost about 30 lbs of fat. My friends and family are not used to me being thinner and now they keep telling me I look sick, I need to eat meat again. I feel awesome I just wish people would not put so much pressure on weight. Growing up I was always super thin, now that I am almost 45 years old I think people expect me to not be thin any more. Some of my family is supportive and I have had a lot of support on WSLF Facebook page as well. Body image affects many people in many different ways.

Edyn Jacks has a favorite vegan channel of mine because she isn't some slim millennial vegan. In fact she talks about 'what a fat vegan eats'. Eating plant based and caring about the animals is what its supposed to be about. Have been a plant based family since the late 70's and its only been the last five years with the advent of KZbin that being some sexy slim vegan seems to have become the focus. Vegans need to be concerned about hunger in America and helping those in food deserts, on fixed incomes obtain a variety of health whole vegan foods and housing for the homeless, affordable healthcare, environmental concerns, work equality.. In our area of California these are causes we and ALL our plant based peers are involved with.

Body image is incredibly complex and dynamic in a sense as it changes depending on your mood, stress levels, time of the month, relationships etc. I have been smaller than what I am now and hated my body, and right now I actually love my body even though I'm a little heavier. And it's not because of the weight, it's because of the health of my state of mind and the fact I cut toxic people out of my life. Sometimes what you fear most is vegan on vegan scrutiny more than what the outside world thinks of you. As supportive and compassionate the vegan community as a whole is, there is a vocal minority of bad apples that focus solely on aesthetics and tear other people down. And that's extremely disheartening. However those people are a dying breed as veganism continues to flourish. And goodness will always prevail. Great video :)

I’m a little overweight due to a congenital thyroid issue, and I’ve gotten judgmental looks from people (like up and downs) after telling people that I’m vegan. Didn’t stop me though, I just hit my one year on aug 3!

I just think for everyone who feels they can't commit to a vegan diet. Look at it like this. Every meal matters. And today chose a vegan meal for the animals. Don't beat yourself up for not being perfect but every choise matters.

I am proud to be vegan! But I sometimes feel embarrassed to tell others about it because some people say that I am too skinny and then they blame it on veganism. They say that it's unnatural and unhealthy because I'm not getting enough protein or noutrients but they don't know me and that I've looked even thinner some years ago before I went vegan! Very often I'm not sure what I'm supposed to say because I want to spread the vegan message but I don't want to be a bad example and to put a bad reputation at it. I really hate this pressure! Thank you so much for your content! I love your videos and can very often relate to them! It always feels like talking with close friends! 😊

I get it...I am very overweight and vegan and I do feel ashamed, at times, to tell people that I am vegan because of how I look. I have struggled with my weight most of my life and being vegan hasn’t helped me lose weight...still trying.

Nope, not all vegans. I'm 2-3 pounds overweight but healthy. But one member of my family was shocked to see me search for a vegan chocolate bar while on a family trip. Later they mentioned how surprised they were to see me eat this piece of candy while I, in their opinion, never work out and have a bigger body. I was very shocked to hear about this, especially since this person eats cheese and bacon sandwiches for everyday breakfast while I have oatmeal most of the time and like to go for walks all the time. TLDR; If your vegan, people will think your unhealthy if they see you eat one chocolate bar. But they are fine eating whatever.

I think a lot of people also aren't aware of the environmental and animal welfare aspects of veganism so when they see someone whose eats a vegan diet they think that's synonymous with a super healthy one. Like they assume vegans don't eat junk food ever people think think vegan=health freak.

In no way is this comment to put this video, I think this is a great topic to discuss and let viewers know that even if you are vegan your body will not be the same as someone else who is vegan. With that being said, stating that lifting weights will make you bulky is a false statement. Females should not fear lifting weights "thinking" I am going to get bulky. Women who chose not to lift are beautiful and women who choose to lift are beautiful.

Courtneyyjustine we totally agree! I weight train with heavy weights all the time and never look bulky. I don’t think Jeanette was saying that the weights were making her look that way, but that people were making assumptions about how she looked ☺️totally agree with you girl!! Strong is an amazing thing to be! Glad you liked the episode 💚

Yes! I’ve been feeling this lately with my acne. I feel like I should have that clear glowing skin to represent veganism... my main issue is that the skin care I used to use isn’t cruelty free so I’ve just been trying a new one every two months since I’ve gone vegan and still I haven’t found one that I like that is also vegan :// it’s just a struggle. Anybody else there with me? The diet alone probably helped me but since I can’t find good skin care for my sensitive skin, I still have acne. Idk to weird

Sorry as an almost 50yr old, and with Stage 4 cancer in treatment, while I can look at you all and think, "I want that so much" and you all are half my age almost, and I am what I say is the in between of veganism. I know so many people who are about 20 years older than me and they have been vegan for over 30 years, and with the big movement now in people of the 20's years and here I sit, in the middle. The older vegans are so lax about the whole things, and are more making all their food because they did not have all the products we have now, and the younger can almost be raised vegetarian or vegan, so it is so easy. I live alone, hate eating leftovers, so eat mostly frozen foods (some more natural than others), and have a major health problem. I originally went vegan because I developed arthritis and looked at anti inflammatory foods and vegan was the diet. My arthritis is great, my doctor says if he did not know I had cancer all my other numbers are so good, and generally I am so in touch with my body. But I am almost 30lbs overweight. I am an old, fat vegan. Going to meetups no one usually talks to me. Like you all said, quit looking at others and think anything. I do not want to go back to my 20s, and glad I am where I am. But I struggle with loving my body as it has cancer, and I really struggle with loving the cancer. I hope you are all well, I love this channel, am on the facebook group, and love all the knowledge I have now 3 year vegan, Peace.

Susan Hoppe So sorry! I can't imagine how hard that is to deal with, but try to stay positive. You are doing a great job being vegan, and even though you said you're not eating the healthiest of foods, you're on the right track. I hope things get better for you!

I was BLOWN away & I hope this trend continues. time.com/4215404/size-14-model-iskra-lawrence-newest-aerie-model/ Companies either portray us as size 0 or Plus size & completely miss the average women. Here's to aerie hopefully starting a new trend.
