Do any European countries grant citizenship by birth? As of 2020, one now does; learn more here: • Europe’s First Citizen...
It's possible to get your unborn child - and sometimes yourself - second citizenship merely by having that child born in another country. It's called "jus soli" and it's practiced by most American countries like Canada, Panama, Brazil, and (controversially) even the United States.
Birth Tourism in Brazil: • Giving Birth in Brazil...
However, what about European countries? Sadly, since Ireland gave up the practice, all European countries practice "jus sanguinis", meaning you need a blood relative to become a citizen by birth.

Outside of Europe. The last country to end birthright citizenship was the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 in 2010. The reason was cuz of birth tourism by people from their neighboring country Haiti.

Some countries still have , for the most part, ALMOST UNLIMITED BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP. Including Argentina. As long as your parents were not a diplomat. And just like here YOU HAVE TO BE A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN TO BE ARGENTINE PRESIDENT. Same thing in Brazil when it comes to the presidency.

If you have an Irish grandparent, or if you have ANY Italian ancestry (dating back to hundreds of years) then its fairly easy to get EU citizenship even with distant ties to Europe

Philip Alexander No, Germany makes it nigh impossible to get citizenship by descent, but is fine handing it out to undocumented migrants from Africa and Middle East. It’s almost as if the German government wants to erase the historical German people and nation.

That’s misleading at best. Refugees have to go through the same length of process in Germany to get citizenship as anyone else. 6-8 years of residence and German language proficiency. While I can understand the anti-refugee movement through an economic lens and sympathize with those feeling left behind, your misrepresentation of the facts leads me to believe your views are influenced by something quite a bit more sinister.

@@Modern.Millennial It depends on the siuation. Like if you marries a german citizen then your waiting time is CUT IN HALF to 2-3 years. If you work for a charity, get a german degree, etc you could cut your waiting period down to 6 years. But for me I MOSTLY SUPPORT REFUGEES. Because I was one. My family came to the us to escape communism. And being refugees doesn't necessary mean being persecuted for religious, political , or sexual reason but it aslo applies to those escaping war.

Andrew there is a loop hole for Birthright citizenship in Europe but only British and Irish citizens can avail of it. A child of a British citizen born on the island of Ireland is automatically an Irish citizen and vice versa for children of Irish citizen born in the UK.

Hi Andrew, can you talk about the different residency by investment programs in Latin America & Southeast Asia for maybe 6 months to a few years? It obviously doesn’t have to lead to citizenship, but I find the idea of living in 2 countries for each half of the year fascinating and it sounds ideal.

After the fall of the USSR many people living in Lativa and Estonia are stateless.....Norway gives birthright citizenship to anyone who is born in country that would otherwise be stateless.....The stateless mother could easily travel to Norway since all countries mentioned are in the Schengen area.....jus soli in Norway....

Another exellent video Andrew. It would ve nice to also drop a video regarding your thoughts on post Brexit era. And especially on how the big investors and businessmen of City will manage their global mobility issues after Uk leaves EU. Do you believe that the UK will pay attention in the Commonwealth Convention fro this way on? What about the countries that offer Citizenship programs being part of the Commonwealth?

France and Span have double jus soli or birthright citizenship. If you are born in Spain or France and one of your parents was also born in the same country you were born too, you’re automatically entitled to citizenship in any of those two countries by birth.

Random User Name 92840531 it’s still considered birthright citizenship by getting it automatically if one of your parents was also born there. Even if your parents are illegal immigrants there all their life. You just have to think ahead two generations down the line if you want the child of your child to be from France 🇫🇷 or Spain 🇪🇸 or possibly other countries I didn’t mentioned that have double jus soli. Go to “Acquisition of citizenship” tab and the look under “French citizenship by birth in metropolitan France and its overseas territories” the very first sentence says about double jus soli. Here it is: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_nationality_law

Portugal has pretty much JUS SOLIS. One parent has legal residency OR resides on the country illegally for one year. Have legal residency the child is portuguese be illegally in portugal for one year the child is portuguese.SPAIN HAS A GAP IN THE LAW. SIMPLES PRESUNCION CITIZENSHIP to avoid stateless citizens of 14 countries have full birthright citizenship even if the parents are turists. Google it spanish by simples presuncion. Futhermore the law was extendend last year for the first time a baby girl born on a migrant boat was granted spanish citizenship by birth. Put on youtube girl born on migrant boat granted spanish nationality.

I have a question what would happen hypothetically if an American woman or what ever gender they identified as were to use a German sperm donor, would the child be given blood citizenship due to their parent being German because birthright citizenships is unavailable could this be a way of obtaining a citizenship getting past birthright citizenship?

*Jus Sanguinis* does not neceserilly mean by blood. So it matters to the parents that have custody. But if the donor recognizes the child, it may be acquired.
