Interesting video! For anyone thinking about moving for financial reasons, I would advice to do some research. I'm from Holland but nowadays I run my own studio in Sweden. The living expenses, taxes etc. are the same in both countries but a starting architect in Holland makes about 2200-2500 a month whereas in Sweden it's 3200 (euros). The working conditions are a lot better here to (you get paid for over time). I think the salary difference has to do with the terrible job market for architects in Holland; a lot of people want to be an architect there.

Thanks for your feedback Arne! I visited Stockholm a few months ago and fell in love with the culture. Although the weather and the language is a barrier for me. Is it easy to get a job as a foreigner?

@@andregonzalez193 In general I would say the requirements are similar to most countries. If you're technical it's a big plus if you know Revit, if you're more interested in the aesthetics you have to have a great portfolio. Everyone is fluent in English but I would estimate at least 80% of the companies are looking for Swedish speaking employees so it's a big plus if you can. University is free here for European citizens so you could also do an extra master here and learn the language. If you have the time I would also advice to move here when you're applying. It's hard to get a job through a Skype interview. It's worth the effort though; the climate is not the best but this is one of the best countries in the world to work as an architect.

@@ShowItBetter It's getting better but it's not easy. I have a talented German friend that tried to get a job for months (during the pandemic). When he started looking in Germany, he immediately found a job at a great office and he actually already switched again to an even better position somewhere else. The climate sucks here and I'm not sure you're going to connect that easily with Swedish people, as a Columbian, but the working conditions are amazing!

Student in architectural engineering from Denmark. My university specializes in the Problem Based Learning structure (PBL), so all of our projects are executed in groups of 5-7 people, rather than having solo studio projects. It is a learning format that quite sought after among firms seeking to recruit us as interns or new staff for our specialization in project managing/group work within Denmark, but internationally the learning method is almost unknown.

Thank you for making this vid! It’s an inspiration that Architecture is not always a linear profession and that it has many branches to go to! I’d also like to think that what’s valuable in architecture is not the end product but the thinking process and how it has improved throughout the years of our own experience and adding value to that along the way! Love the channel and always a fan!

Currently doing working in a small-mid size architecture office in Canada and. It satisfy me for now, but I take time to develop experience and see in what architecture field I would love to specialize into. Learning Revit was what got me the job! What we learn at school is more related to design, and I think it misses a lot of courses related to the real workplace and business relationships. As you said, I think that Real estate is an extremely thriving industry and architect are well equipped to be successful in that field. Plus, we have a more humanistic vision of housing, compared to standard developers who are focused on rentability in general…

One of the sad things about my salary is I also freelanced in archviz and I got paid TWICE as much for archviz compared to architecture which is insane! Archviz was freelance meaning you don't get social and pay more taxes but even after reducing 30% its still more. Even architects were willing to pay more for a technical work that requires no degree then a full profession that require years of education and exams to aquire. Thats sad.

From Italy here. Usually a recent graduate architect earn around 600/800 Euro. The average salary of a medium senior architect is around 1200/1300 euro, which is way too low being the same salary of a shop assistant. Lot of people are used to change field and work for something completely different.

In Romania (eastern Europe), I make $600/mo after tax, going into my 5th year of working. Rent for a 1 bedroom is around $350. Average salary in the country is around $800. For comparison, McDonald's has job ads for $550-650, so yeah... A resident starts in medicine at $1200+ bonuses and night shifts. My friends in tech are at $1600-2000. (All pay is after tax). Problems only start there: projects are crap (there is no demand for quality) and having to deal with institutions is stressful to say the least, as often times, they find any gap in the law to block you project...and then you have to justify it to the client. Out of the 15 university colleagues that I keep in touch with, only 2 were actually happy with it, but in the last month even they told me they will quit this field. Most have quit already. It's a complete shitshow. Needless to say, I can't wait for this year to end as it's my last year in architecture.

@@ShowItBetter Oh, wasn't expecting you to answer back :) Before I go on with my answer, just wanted to let you know that I've been following your channel for a couple of years now, ever since you posted the people and trees brushes!. Love your work man. You've helped me a lot with my Arch Viz skills (I'm actually planing on specializing in a near future in Arch Viz). Well.. as you know, there is always several realities going on. In Spain, according to the Official Architect's Agreement (Convenio de Arquitectos), the minimum is around 27K€, but it's quite rare to find firms who pay that or it's even harder to find firms who will actually employ you legally. Most of the cases you are stuck with a false " Freelancer" status. Not the best scenario for a middle class reality. I'm about to relocate to Copenhagen, Denmark. I've got my best friend living there for 5 years already and it is a very different story from my reality haha. Acoorindg to the Union, an Architect with 5+years of experience should get around 60K€. But again, you will always find people hiring for less, which might be my case very soon. On the bright side, the whole false Freelancer is not a common practice there and even with the living standards being higher, making it much more expensive, it's still worth it for the work culture and work/private life balance. Weather wise might be another story haha. I've heard you can at least be saving 1K€/month if you play your cards right. Not bad.

It’s the same here in Cambodia when you spoke of not working for someone. As a local with foreign qualification, I was still underpaid working at a foreign firm here. Now (with 12 years working experience) I decided to work for myself for the last 3 years. I make slightly more, but 60% of my invome goes to taxes, rent and other expenses. Unfortunately, architects are not well respected in my country and projects are less than worth my time or knowledge, in my opinion. And I feel many times that I hate my job which is heartbreaking. I am looking to relocate at the moment, somewhere that has a better working environment, give more value and proper, deserving pay.

Still in the middle of my studies. So currently going into my last year of architecture. In the UK, we have to also acquire 2 years of experience working to obtain final qualifications and be able to fully register as an architect. Last year I was doing one of those years (we call it a Part 1 here) and earned £20k/yr which is a relatively common if on the high end of salaries for that position in this country. This summer, I am employed with the same company and (mainly due to inflation etc) I am to earn £21.5k - although only a couple months of it before that last year of university. As someone who is still very much unsure of wanting to actually be an architect and with financial prospects not looking great either (the UK has some of the more exuberant cost of living expenses) I found the bit of the video about people working different jobs still related to the field quite inspiring. Still very much planning to finish my studies and get that proper registration in but it is nice to see there are other routes I can go down to!

Also ArchVis industry is penetrating very fastly in Morocco and I think it's very promising in terms of income. The majority of people I know are satisfied with the income but never with the conditions of work that are ''inhuman'' lmao, no limits in the hours of work, in many firms even in the weekends there ll be work, sleepless nights even more than in school haha... Based in New Zealand. 100% archviz. circa $120k a year, which is middle ground for a senior. With that said, a lot of my role isn't creative stuff. It's writing proposals, organising less senior artists, making sure resources are appropriate to projects and so on. I try to work on one project a month where I really dig in and apply my skills, stay relevant and try to push the team to another level. Fun - but also very challenging. I suggest to first enjoy your first years out of school, have fun! But on a more practical side, know the basics of architecture software, be good at doing "many things" at first. Also try to look into what tupe of jobs you would like, boutique offices, corporations, academia, etc

Actualmente ando viajando mucho a Colombia - Bogota y me gustaría vivir mejor aquí

I am an architect with experience in Brazil and now pursuing master in Europe and I can assure you, do not choose Architecture. If you like design and creative things choose design or keep it as a hobby. Now that I am here in Europe I know that life isnt easy for architects no matter where you are. And most of the part of work routine in architecture fild isnt about design, you have to deal with clients, money (or the lack of it), construction and so many more technical things. We can say it is underpaid because the work like is very stressfull. Now I want to change my carrier to another field and maybe have enough money on the future to pay the rent and design my on house/apartment (wich as an architect I cannot)

@@FailedSociety321 That's a fair salary in my opinion. part 2's earn better of course. With Apprenticeship you may need to develop an entrepreneurial mindset to en-cash the real world experience that you will have.
