I like it. I have a friends that are questioning their catholic faith some have left. This video helps me talk to them. More of it would be really useful. I told one that we don’t worship Mary but honor her. Then he asked the below: What do u mean by honor? Who doesn't know that Mary is blessed, everyone knows that. The point is the concentration on her, praying to her, venerating her statue, literally worshipping her, that's the point. These things were not practised in the early Church and is not biblical. It is alien to the Christian faith. It was smuggled in along the line by the popes through the various dogmas they pronounced. Let me ask you, how does one get saved? How can someone get salvation?

There is no little w in Catholicism - worship is to God alone - Marian dogma is going too far to say in anyway she should be worshipped- see ccc 2114 about idolatry - satan can use this to prohibit people to come to the sacraments for salvation. For some reason, papists really believe this. They say something like: "you don't understand it, we call this one dulia and the other one latria. problem solved." For protestants, it has nothing to do with words. We see people calling upon names other than the Name of our Lord, while bowing down to statues depicting those persons (or sometimes even statues depicting God), looking up to heaven and expecting that those creatures in heaven will react to those prayers and find in those praises. We don't care whether you call something worship. Just don't do those things which are forbidden in the first two commandments (or just first in your case). The guy in the video is talking like: we define our actions like this and this. Protestants don't care about your definitions of certain rituals. We care about Gods definition of those rituals. As usual, the guy in the video did not speak one word about Gods definitions, which are found in scripture alone.

The statues are there to help us meditate on scenes from the life of Christ. We don't need to "look up to Heaven" when we pray because the Holy Spirit dwells within us: we are His living temples. I wish it was simply an honoring, reverence, or invoking of her help. But in truth, you guys do attribute the honor to Mary due *alone* to God. You say that your *whole* body, soul, and life can be rightly offered to her. You attribute to her divine power-the power to soften hearts, enlighten minds, and work salvation for God’s people. You would never do that to a living saint-you would never ask them to soften an unbeliever’s heart. You say that she deserves to be uppermost in your affections, and justify that by saying “to love her is to love God.” But you’d never let a man excuse an idolizing of his wife that way (“she is uppermost in my affection, and worthy of all my actions is just my worship of Jesus”).

Since the modern idea of Worship seems to be, that which only is to be offered to God, shouldnt we just say we Venerate or Honor Mary rather than say we worship Mary and then have to explain that the idea of worship has changed over the years and that we do worship Mary in an older understanding of the idea of worship? This gave me great insight: from an apologetics stand point, it sounds like we need to first ask, “what is worship? “ Does a protestant or Baptist worship, or do they simply go hear a man attack Catholics? Is prayer worship? As Catholics we have a Mass that is clearly worship, we also have adoration, that is also clearly worship, we also have stations, etc etc. So are we worshipping Mary?

I have always tried to give Catholics the benefit of the doubt on Mary. I've listened carefully to their arguments as to why their veneration of the BVM is not worship. All I can say is that, when all is said and done, I'm not buying it. Other than the "Hail, Mary" almost no prayer to her is seeking her intercession with God, but is instead requesting gifts directly from her hand. I firmly believe Catholics when they say they do not intend to worship Mary. But I do not come close to believing that they actually do not do so.

All the gifts Mary has come from God though. That's the key thing. As long as the Catholic does not think these gifts originate in Mary, I don't see how it's idolatry. We often ask people we know to pray for us who we consider to be close to God. What's the difference? God bless

Yes, we ask others to pray for us, but no, we do not ask them to grant us wisdom or strength or patience. I have always believed that the cult of Mary adoration in the Catholic Church developed early in the Church, when the Church all over the world was trying to convert polytheistic pagans, most of whom has goddesses. Christianity was an easier sell with a Goddess they could present to them. I spent 12 years in Catholic schools. In spite of all the denials by the clergy, it is obvious to most people that Mary is worshipped and relegated to a status almost as high as Jesus. I vividly remember annual May processions, when the whole school would march behind an entourage carrying a statue of Mary, and singing, "Oh Mary we crown thee with blossoms today; Queen of the Angels, Queen of the May". If that isn't worship, then what is it ?!

But I do know that the church shut down a group of people that actually worshipped Virgin Mary around the 5th century, correcting their practices (they still allowed hyperdulia/showing her respect as the highest of the saints). Multiple apparitions were officially labeled as false/dangerous to believe by the church aswell. Even a catholic can criticize/disagree with how the church handles certain issues but that's not an excuse to not be catholic.

There’s no description of her physical appearance, nothing about her life, her later years after Christ’s death, or her own death and burial. And when she does briefly appear with the disciples and the other believers on the day of Pentecost, she’s not an object of worship or even a leader in the early church-she’s just one among many. There simply are no biblical examples of anyone ever praying to her, honoring her, or venerating her.
