@Truth Hurts we are supposed to go by what the word of God actually says. Not by what we want it to say. First of all, he is not only referring to circumcision. Notice in verse 16 he says "by the works of the law." As in plural. He is referring to the law as a whole and if Gods law never changes then #1 why are you not still sacrificing bulls and goats on an altar? Where is your tabernacle? If Gods law never changes, then why aren't you burning down the cities of unbelievers and killing them?
@IAMhassentyou-h5w5 жыл бұрын
@Truth Hurts why? Because Gods law DOES change as we are in a better, more perfect covenant built on better promises. The law of Moses was specifically for the nation of Israel which is why you see the laws regarding war and how to judge in court. How to grow their crops and settle disputes and dress. Things that pertain to morality, such as not committing adultery, still apply because Christ and the apostles taught against it. God knows what he's doing and I will take his words over yours.

Ephesians 2 says as gentiles we now have access to the promises & covenants that were given to Israel. Not that we should change them. They are pure. As Paul said we are grafted into Israel whose root is Jesus. We become fellow citizens v19 V14 & v15 show Christ destroyed the partition of hostility which are found in the commandments of dogmas. Dogmas are man made decrees that Christ objected to when they went against Truth. Like a Jew not being able to associate with a gentile...a lie from men that was a tradition the Jews thought to be true. Read it if your heart wants truth. We become one new man...not a spiritual Israel & ' the Jews' as two separate groups. That is a false dogma Eph 2:12-19 KJV 12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: 13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. 14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; 15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; 16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: 17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. 18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. 19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; Find truth & do not let go of it. The Judaizer would say that if we claim to be under grace that we are saying it's ok to sin. Much to the contrary. Romans 6 tells us that we should not continue in sin so that grace can abound. Roman's 6 also tells us that sin will not have dominion over you because you are not under law but under grace. The law cannot break sins authority over a person. Grace is what does that. We are called to walk in the Spirit and when we do that, we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Not by keeping the law. By walking in the Spirit (Galatians 5).

@@TatureBud Let's have bible study. Gal. 5:16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. So how do we not fall into sin? By keeping commandments? No. What does he say here? By walking in the Spirit. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. So there's a war going on right? Between our flesh that doesn't want to submit to God and the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. the Spirit leads regenerate persons, and teaches them to walk by faith in Christ. A person who is led by the Spirit is not only delivered from the law in fact, but delivered from its condemnation. We are not free to sin because we are not under the law, but instead free to live a righteous life before God. Our inner nature is changed (Romans 6) and we are no longer under the bondage of sin. We are slaves to righteousness with the inner desire now to please God. Again, not by keeping commandments but by walking in the Spirit. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. So we know what sin is. The new testament here defines it for us. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. When we choose to walk in the Spirit, this is what will show in our life. There is no law against those things. 24 And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If a person belongs to Christ, they will not live in sin. Because we are a new creation in Christ our desires have now changed. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Everyone is "under the law" before salvation because we are under its judgement. Therefore, nobody can be justified before God by keeping the law. Romans 3:19-24 19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin. Righteousness through Faith 21 But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. In Luke 16:17 Jesus says, "But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one dot of the Law to become void." In Matthew 5:17-18, as part of His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says, "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished." With these words, Jesus honored the Law as God's Holy Word and declared the Law to be perfect, non-negotiable, and a true prediction of God's work in the future. The fulfillment of the Law is found in Christ Himself and His finished work of redemption. We are saved by God's grace (Ephesians 2:8-9). Being under grace, believers are not bound by the Law (Romans 6:14), but we have the Holy Spirit actually living in our hearts. The Spirit gives us the ability to "love one another" (John 13:34), and we know that "the one who loves another has fulfilled the law" (Romans 13:8). Christians do not work at fulfilling the Mosaic Law, which Christ fulfilled on our behalf (Matthew 5:17); rather, we fulfill the "law of Christ" by the Spirit's power (Galatians 6:2)

The key to understanding the relationship between the Christian and the Law is knowing that the Old Testament law was given to the nation of Israel, not to Christians. Some of the laws were to reveal to the Israelites how to obey and please God (the Ten Commandments, for example). Some of the laws were to show the Israelites how to worship God and atone for sin (the sacrificial system). Some of the laws were intended to make the Israelites distinct from other nations (the food and clothing rules). None of the Old Testament law is binding on Christians today. When Jesus died on the cross, He put an end to the Old Testament law (Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:23-25; Ephesians 2:15). In place of the Old Testament law, Christians are under the law of Christ (Galatians 6:2), which is to “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind…and to love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37-39). If we obey those two commands, we will be fulfilling all that Christ requires of us: “All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments” (Matthew 22:40). Now, this does not mean the Old Testament law is irrelevant today. Many of the commands in the Old Testament law fall into the categories of “loving God” and “loving your neighbor.” The Old Testament law can be a good guidepost for knowing how to love God and knowing what goes into loving your neighbor. At the same time, to say that the Old Testament law applies to Christians today is incorrect. The Old Testament law is a unit (James 2:10). Either all of it applies, or none of it applies. If Christ fulfilled some of it, such as the sacrificial system, He fulfilled all of it. “This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome” (1 John 5:3). The Ten Commandments were essentially a summary of the entire Old Testament law. Nine of the Ten Commandments are clearly repeated in the New Testament (all except the command to observe the Sabbath day). Obviously, if we are loving God, we will not be worshipping false gods or bowing down before idols. If we are loving our neighbors, we will not be murdering them, lying to them, committing adultery against them, or coveting what belongs to them. The purpose of the Old Testament law is to convict people of our inability to keep the law and point us to our need for Jesus Christ as Savior (Romans 7:7-9; Galatians 3:24). The Old Testament law was never intended by God to be the universal law for all people for all of time. We are to love God and love our neighbors. If we obey those two commands faithfully, we will be upholding all that God requires of us......

I find Christianity very hypocritical, who gives you the right to decide what you do and don't follow. Jesus's message was pure and perfect and surely you as a Christian would want to follow in his footsteps and actions? Christians do not even follow the ten commandments, they create idols and statues of Jesus and Mary, consume swine and do not have laws on segregation between man and woman. Christianity was tainted the day Paul had this 'so-called' vision, and changed the teachings of Jesus. I'm sorry but Paul did not even know Jesus, he was merely a Jew that was sick of his teachings and found them too strict. There is a reason why Judaism and Islam are the way they are, they remain strong their foundations in the commandments and have never been tampered with, Christianity and the Bible has been rewritten and changed multiple times. There is a reason why Christianity is the easiest and most liberal religion to follow, it clearly has the smallest set of rules and it is not a way of life in anyway, please go read the Old Testament and see its beauty and see the way it portrays how we truly please God. In oppose to this hippy story 'New Testament'.

TheAnalyst KR who gives us the right to follow the teachings of Paul? is that what you're really saying? As Christians we follow what the entire New Testament tells us because the gospels are defined by the rest of the New Testament. If you are not a Christian yourself then how could you possibly know that? There's a reason why there are 27 books in the New Testament and not just 4. We believe what we believe and it's not up for debate with non-believers.

TheAnalyst KR Paul as well as John James and Peter also taught against sin so it's not a liberal religion. It's become a liberal religion to some because there are people who taint what the Bible says. Romans 6 is very clear when Paul tells us that we should not continue in sin simply because we are under grace. There are two different covenants in the Bible and that's how we understand it. That's why there's an Old Testament and a New Testament. If you don't understand that then how can you understand the rest of what the Bible says? God's words are pure but man is evil. Paul was an apostle of Jesus Christ and his words are the inspired word of God. Just as much as any other writer in the Bible. That's what we believe.

An exposition of Romans 10:4, which says: "Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes," will help in understanding what is means that Christians are not under the law. The apostle Paul clarifies the effects of original sin in Romans 2:12, stating "All who sin apart from the law will perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law." All men stand condemned before God, whether they are Jews or not, or to put it another way, whether they have the Law of God or not. Paul also states "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). If we are without Christ, we are justly condemned in God’s sight by the Law that was given to His servant Moses. However, we might argue that those who are not Jewish and therefore do not benefit from the knowledge of the Mosaic Law (including the moral and ceremonial laws), should not be condemned in the same way. This is dealt with by the Apostle in Romans 2:14-15, where he states that the Gentiles have the essence of God’s legal requirements already ingrained and so are just as much without excuse. The Law is the issue that has to be dealt with in order to bring us into a right relationship with God. "Know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified" (Galatians 2:16). This passage reveals that the Law cannot justify or make righteous any man in God’s sight, which is why God sent His Son to completely fulfil the requirements of the Law for all those who would ever believe in Him. Christ Jesus redeemed us from the curse that has been brought through the law by becoming a curse for us (Galatians 3:13). He substituted Himself in our place and upon the cross took the punishment that is justly ours so that we are no longer under the curse of the Law. In doing so, He fulfilled and upheld the requirements of the Law. This does not mean that Christians are to be lawless, as some advocate today-a teaching called antinomianism. Rather, it means that we are free from the Mosaic Law and instead under the law of Christ, which is to love God with all of our being and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Christ became the end of the Law by virtue of what He did on earth through His sinless life and His sacrifice on the cross. So, the Law no longer has any bearing over us because its demands have been fully met in the Lord Jesus Christ. Faith in Christ who satisfied the righteous demands of the Law restores us into a pleasing relationship with God and keeps us there. No longer under the penalty of the Law, we now live under the law of grace in the love of God.

Adding anything to salvation or righteousness beyond faith is to go against the teachings of the apostles and it is the apostles who interpret the words of Christ for us in scripture. We must always be careful who we listen to. Judaizers and false teachers abound spreading doctrines of demons. The gospel of grace is what Paul and the apostles taught. If we stick to that, we are following Christ correctly.
@IAMhassentyou-h5w5 жыл бұрын
There have always been groups of Christians who believe that in order to honor God’s authority in the Old Testament we must continue to obey the food laws and other ceremonial laws, lest we be found in disobedience. There is a good impulse in this and a profoundly bad impulse in this. The good impulse is the desire to obey God. There’s nothing wrong with that. That belongs to what it means to be a Christian. The bad impulse is the failure to obey Christ who teaches us how to obey God in regard to the Old Testament. So, the good impulse starts, perhaps, with a text like Matthew 5:17-18. Jesus says, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.” And the good impulse puts the emphasis on every dot, every iota of the law standing until the earth passes away. And the bad impulse neglects the words, I have come “to fulfill them,” and the words, “until all is accomplished.” In other words, the bad impulse fails to see in Jesus the kind of fulfillment and the kind of accomplishment of the Law and the Prophets that God always intended in the Old Testament as the consummation and the end of the ceremonial laws. So, the effort to hold on to the prohibition of eating pork is, in effect, a refusal to submit to God’s plan for the fulfillment of the Law in Jesus.

@abcdefg The thing is that most of the time, you understans the gospel. You are an intelligent fellow and I do have respect for the research you do. The bible is God's holy word. Every part is true. If you make the gospel the center of how you live your life and how you act towards others, please continue sharing the gospel with others. It is only by the sacrifice of the Messiah that we are saved. He alone atones and circumcizes the heart. Ephesians 2:8, Revelation 3:20, Deuteronomy 30:6, Romans 6:23. Historically, the Roman Empire tried to take Christianity and claim it as their own religion. Sunday was the day the Romans worshipped their gods. When our people revolted against Hadrian, the Romans took us captive and required us to observe all their paganism. Then they took Christianity and uprooted everything Jewish and made it their own. This can't be what Paul was talking about in terms of that we are under grace. The answer as to why is found in the bible: Deuteronomy 28:64 - "Then the Lord will scatter you among all nations, from one end of the earth to the other. There you will worship other gods-gods of wood and stone, which neither you nor your ancestors have known. In Deuteronomy 28:64 - 68, God clearly told us what would happen from the time Titus destroyed the temple in 70 AD through the second century. Deuteronomy 32 describes how God would deal with our people for falling away from his instructions. Deuteronomy 32:31 describes how just like our God delivered us to our enemies that their "rock" (idols and gods) is not like our Rock. That verse shows so much meaning not just to the enemies which Israel faced before they entered the promised land. The gods of the Roman Empire represented "rocks" that were not like "The Rock". Furthermore Ezekiel 36:25 - 27 states "25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. God made his promise that we would be cleansed from idolatry as part of Salvation and that his people would be a light to the world so that Salvation reaches the ends of the earth - Isaiah 49:6. So does that mean that us believers in Yeshua (Jesus), who only believe that Salvation is by being saved by grace and not by the works of the law, follow the very thing that caused our people to be captive and that was rooted in worshipping idols? Certainly not. The Sunday Sabbath was rooted in idolatry and invented by the Roman Empire and sustained through the Catholic church. Thr Catholics also teach we must do good deeds to go to heaven. Was it not the blood of the Messiah that redeemed us and the only way? Yet, people encourage us to go to church on Sunday, and celebrate easter and Christmas. In the fourth century and beyond both gentiles and Jews stood against it and were persecuted still. I encourage those same people who encourage believers who go to church on Sunday and celebrate Easter and Christmass to pop open a history book and learn the origins of all three of those days. Then they ought to read 1 Corinthians 10. God warns people not to celebrate anything rooted in paganism. The Roman empire persecuted Christians and then decides in the fourth century under Constantine (who would be Jewish by blood because his mother was a Messianic Jew) to paganize it. The paganism was very dark. So everytime I hear pastors encouraging Christians to go to church on Sunday and celebrate Christmass and easter: this is what they say: lets fellowship together and tell others to take a day of rest and turn a blind eye to history and the fact that all three traditions are rooted in idolatry, antisemitism, and horrible corruption. God did not make a covenant with the Roman empire. So why are we following it? Why do people keep the Sabbath on Sunday?

As Christians we are under what is known as the law of Christ which Paul describes in Galatians 6:2. Burden-Bearing and the Law of Christ The main point of Galatians 6:1-5 is given in a general way in verse 2 and a specific way in verse 1. Verse 2: "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." If a Christian brother or sister is weighed down or menaced by some burden or threat, be alert to that and quickly do something to help. Don't let them be crushed. Don't let them be destroyed. Don't be like the scribes and Pharisees. Jesus said, "They bind heavy burdens hard to bear and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with their finger" (Matthew 23:4). Don't increase burdens. Make them lighter for people. Some of you wonder what you are supposed to do with your life. Here is a vocation that will bring you more satisfaction than if you became a millionaire ten times over: Develop the extraordinary skill for detecting the burdens of others and devote yourself daily to making them lighter. In this way you fulfill the law of Christ(6:2). That's an odd phrase in a book that says (5:18): "If you are led by the Spirit you are not under the law." And (3:13): "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law." Have we been freed from the curse and burden of the Mosaic law just to be burdened down with a more radical law of Christ? No. The difference is that Moses gave us a law but could not change our hearts so that we would freely obey. Our pride and rebellion was not conquered by Moses. But when Christ summons us to obey his law of love, he offers us himself to slay the dragon of our pride, change our hearts, empower us by his Spirit, and fulfill his law. That is why, even though Christ's law is more radical than the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, he can say, "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30). It is easy because when we are weak, he is strong. It's easy because he produces the fruit of love: "I am crucified with Christ, it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me" (2:20). Christ never commands us to do anything that he wants us to do on our own. Therefore, every command in the law of Christ is a call to faith. Through faith God supplies the Spirit of Christ (Galatians 3:5); through the Spirit we produce the fruit of love (5:22); through love we fulfill the law of Christ (6:2). Therefore, if you trust him, you will fulfill his law of love. You will devote yourself to lifting the burdens of others.

". . . whosoever doeth any work . . . Six days may work be done, but the seventh is the sabbath of rest . . . whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death." The following texts teach not only that the sabbath was the sign of the covenant given at Sinai, but they show the great importance of the sabbath sign as well: And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you. Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you; every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed. @@bassi3315 In Christ every believer is totally free from the law. "We are not under the law, but under grace" (Rom.6:15). We are not, justified (Rom. 3:19-24), sanctified (Gal.3:1-3), motivated (II Cor.5:14), ruled (Tit.2:11- 12), or glorified (Jude 24-25) by the law, but by grace. "CHRIST IS THE END OF THE LAW FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS T0 EVERYONE THAT BELIEVETH" (Rom. 10: 4). Do you ask what that means? It means that Christ is the fulfillment of the law, the satisfaction of the law, and the termination of the law to all who believe on him unto life everlasting. It means that there is no righteousness to be had, of any kind, to any degree, by our own works of obedience to the law. The only way anyone can have righteousness before God is by faith in Christ. He is "THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS" (Jer.23:6). And we are the righteousness of God in him (Jer. 33:16; II Cor. 5:21). "YE ARE BECOME DEAD TO THE LAW BY THE BODY OF CHRIST" (Rom, 7:4), Do you ask what that means? It means that if you are a believer, if Christ died for you, insofar as the law of God is concerned you are dead. It can make no demands upon you. It can require nothing from you. It can do nothing to you. If you and I are in Christ by faith, we have no covenant with the law, no curse from the law, and no commitment to the law. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT WE ARE AGAINST THE LAW. God forbid! We are not antinomians, We delight in the law of God (Rom.7:22). The real antinomian is the legalist who pretends to keep the law. He lowers the standard of the law to the measure of his own obedience. Otherwise he could find no comfort in his obedience. So the legalist turns the law of God into lasciviousness. @Vincent James it is true that man can obey God's laws, but we must also have faith in Messiah. It is Faith in his blood that cleanses us from the sin when we do not keep the Commandment. Even though a man can keep the Commandments in the Old Testament when he fell short he needed a sacrifice to cover his sin but nothing took his sin away until Jesus came as the Messiah. His blood takes away our sins and delivers us from death so we are redeemed from the curse of the law. We are not redeemed from the law itself, but we are redeemed from the curse of the law by him taking death and our place like the sacrifice did.

@Vincent James what does Passover represent? How is man forgiven of sin? God said the wages of sin is death. We cannot work our way to salvation. What do you believe the sacrificial system in the high priest was all about? It was about man sin separating him from God and that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin. Christ shed his blood as the Lamb of God to take away my sinned and there are types and shadows of that in the Old Testament. There are different theories of the atonement. In Matthew 22 Jesus sums up the law for us. 34 But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, 36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" 37 Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." Then and John 13 Christ gives us a new commandment. This commandment would be just as binding upon New Testament Christians as the law of Moses was upon Israel in the Old Testament. Why? Because Jesus Christ is God manifest in the flesh. He is our Lord. 31 So, when he had gone out, Jesus said, "Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him. 32 If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and glorify Him immediately. 33 Little children, I shall be with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, 'Where I am going, you cannot come,' so now I say to you. 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." Then, Christ reiterates this commandment in John 15. 12 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. 14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. The Apostle John repeats this commandment in 1st John 3. 22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. 23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. The law of Christ which our Lord and Savior gave us himself.

So routinely do people attack the bible and as Christian's we know why. It is because Satan, our adversary, goes about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. That's why Ephesians 6 tells us to take up the whole armor of God to stand against him. Part of that armor is the word of God which Paul calls the sword of the Spirit. So we need to know what it says and understand it. The gospel of grace that the apostles taught is clear. We are not under law but under grace. Grace is not freedom to sin, it is freedom from the bondage of sin. It is the freedom that the bible speaks about. There is no freedom in keeping the law. Much to the contrary, it is a yoke of bondage and what does Paul say regarding this? Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. 2 Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing. 3 And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law. 4 You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.

John is also clear on what commandments we are to follow in 1 John 3 23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. The same commandment that Christ gave us in John 15. 12 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. 14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. 17 These things I command you, that you love one another. Since John also wrote Revelation, we can be assured that the commandments he spoke of in Revelation are the same commandments he gave in 1 John 3. Nowhere in the New Testament does the bible command new covenant believers to keep OT law. Much to the contrary. There are many scripture verses that say we are no longer under the law when we come to Christ.

@@kennycouch6135 we are not redeemed from God's Commandments! We are set free from the penalty or curse of the law. It is the law of sin and death that Christ redeemed us from. It is the curse of the law that was taken away, not the law itself. Just listen to the words of Our Lord in Matthew 5. He tells us plainly that not one jot or tittle of the law will pass away until Heaven and Earth pass away and all be fulfilled. If a person is loving God and loving their neighbor they will be led by the spirit and we'll walk in the Commandments of God. For it is not the hearers of the law that are made righteous but the doers of the law. Peter warns us of people that twist the writings of Paul. He calls them Lawless oh, just as our Lord tells us in Matthew 7 that many that go by the name of Christ or call themselves Christian on Judgement Day will be told they never knew him because they were workers of lawlessness. The New Covenant is written about and prophesied back in Ezekiel 36 and tells us that God will write his laws and Commandments on our hearts and give us a new heart and cause us to obey his Commandments and to walk in them. Acts 15- a very good passage that all christians should read. In that chapter the question is presented to the apostles on whether or not Christians are saved by keeping Old Testament law or required to keep Old Testament law. Paul and Barnabas argue with the legalists and bring the matter to the apostles in Jerusalem. The apostles in the end conclude that not only had they never taught the following of the Old Testament laws, but that they were not going to place the churches under that teaching at that time either. Following Old Testament laws was never part of what the apostles taught so if they didn't teach it, then why would you? The chapter also gives us a clearer understanding of the Epistles and lets us know that Peter Paul James and John, the authors of the New Testament, did not teach the following of Old Testament laws in their books. In the book of Acts, the question was NOT "what are we going to do with all these "Jews" who are coming to faith in the Gentile, Aryan "Jesus", who abolished the Law and upholds sin...but it was "what are we to do with all these Gentiles who are coming to faith in the Hebrew Messiah, the 'Lion of Yehudah', Yeshua"! You are correct, the question was taken to the leadership of the believing community in Jerusalem, and the decision was to give the Gentiles 4 stipulations for table fellowship with the Messianic Jews, (we are told that there were myriads and myriads of them and that they were "all zealous for the Law") and then, "for Moses is read/taught in the synagogues in every city on the Sabbath"...so the new Gentile believers could avail themselves of the teaching of the Torah, "line up on line, precept upon precept, here a little, there a little", just as the Jews had learned it during the period of the Tanakh! The "Torah is/was a pedagogue/tutor to lead us to Messiah", NOT to show them that they COULD NOT KEEP it, but that they DID NOT KEEP IT, and that they could be forgiven and redeemed, bought back, and EMPOWERED/ENABLED to keep the Torah by the INDWELLING HOLY SPIRIT! We are told, "for the Spirit was WITH you, but NOW will be IN you"! Messiah Yeshua UPHOLDS THE LAW OF YHVH AND ABOLISHED SIN! PERIOD! See the difference?! Baruch B'Shem Yeshua!

1:28- We must read the Bible in terms of its "covenantal development." That is the study of biblical theology, which is necessary for us all to do in order to read the Bible in the way Christ intends for us.
@keikot49984 жыл бұрын
1:17- Do we have a reason and a foundation for what we are saying? Yes. The good reason is that we must read the Bible in terms of its storyline, in terms of its covenantal development. So, though there are many covenant dispensations in the Bible, (for our purpose here) there was the Old Covenant made with Israel, which had certain requirements. And those requirements that were given to Israel set them apart from the nations, distinguished Israel from the nations. So, we have the Old Covenant and then the New Covenant in Jesus Christ. That New Covenant was prophesied in Jeremiah 31, Ezekiel 36, and other passages as well. When we read the whole Bible and when we read the Old Covenant in light of the New, we see that the Old Covenant has passed away. Christians are no longer under the Old Covenant. They are no longer under the stipulations, the commands, the prescriptions in that Old Covenant. The New Covenant is new. So, NONE of the commands in the Old Testament are binding in and of themselves because the whole covenant has passed away as a package. We are under the New Covenant entirely. So, really the question is why we keep ANY of those covenants in the Old Covenant? Now, “Why do we avoid some”, but “Why do we keep some of them”? And we do keep some of them, don't we? Some of them are repeated in the NT. ….. Is there rationale in what the New Testament writers are doing? I think the most helpful way to think of it actually is that the NT writers argue that we are under now, what Paul calls, “the law of Christ,” in Galatians 6:2 and 1 Corinthians 9:20-21, we are NOT under the law of Moses, but we are under the law of Christ. What is “the law of Christ” fundamentally? Galatians 5:14 - the law of Christ is the law of love. And that is what Jesus taught, too. That is in Paul in Galatians. But Jesus taught, in Matthew 22, how to summarize what the law is about ethically? It is about loving God and loving your neighbor. And then both Jesus and Paul and other New Testament writers UNPACK what that love is: What does love look like? Well, if you love, you honor your father and mother. If you love, you don’t steal. If you love, you don’t murder, and you don’t commit adultery. So, some of those commands from the OT pass over, not surprisingly. Some of those commands are still required for today, but they are required: NOT BECAUSE it is part of the Old Covenant BUT BECAUSE the NT “indicates” that they are part of “the law of Christ.” ----- So, when we read the Scripture, we are not being arbitrary or whimsical or just picking up the commands we want to obey. We are actually being faithful to what the Bible as a whole teaches us. We are reading the Bible in light of the whole story, in light of the fulfillment that is in Jesus Christ. The nation of Israel was intended to be in force for a certain period of time. It was the state and the church. But NOW the church of Jesus Christ is in every nation and every people group. And the commands and the laws that are required are different than the laws for the small little nation (Israel) that was political and church entity. What God requires of us in the New Covenant is clear. It fundamentally calls us to is to love one another. It is pretty remarkable when we read the NT, which is NOT filled with detail regulations. The NT focuses on love of God and love of neighbor, and then, it sketches in for us, “OK, here is what love looks like in broad strokes.” But we are fundamentally called upon to imitate Jesus Christ, to follow in His footsteps. We see what the love of God is like in the Cross of Jesus Christ and in the self-giving love for others, and that is what God calls us to do as Christians.

Why do we accept the writings of the apostle Paul as believers? The apostles not only accepted the Old Testament and Jesus' Word's as authoritative, they also began to see that their writings were on the same authoritative level. Being led by the Holy Spirit, they believed they were speaking for Christ. The Apostle Paul, for example, wrote thirteen letters that have been recognized as Holy Scripture by the Christian church. Who was this man? What evidence do we have to call Paul's writings Scripture? Who Was Paul? We have no physical description of Saul of Tarsus given to us in Scripture. Early tradition says that he was a small man with a bald head. No matter what he looked liked, his writings have become part of the Word of God as found in the New Testament. He was born Saul of Tarsus - a city which is in modern-day Turkey. Tarsus had been part of the Greek world for some time. Although the family of Saul were Jews, Saul himself was a Roman citizen. While still a young man Saul traveled to Jerusalem to train as a Rabbi. In Jerusalem, he became acquainted with a group of people who believed Jesus of Nazareth to be the Messiah. Saul relentlessly persecuted these people while all the time thinking that he was serving God. The Conversion Of Saul Of Tarsus While heading for Damascus to further jail believers in Jesus, Saul had a blinding vision that knocked him to the ground. The voice that spoke to Saul identified Himself as Jesus of Nazareth - the one whom he had been persecuting. Thus began one of the great turnarounds in history. The greatest antagonist of the Christian faith - Saul of Tarsus - became its greatest missionary - the Apostle Paul. During his lifetime he penned thirteen different works that have become part of the New Testament. It is impossible to overestimate the influence that Paul played in the spread of the Christian faith. He Believed His Message To Be Divine The first thing that must be noticed is that Paul believed his message to be divine. He wrote. If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord (1 Corinthians 14:37). He wrote to the church at Thessalonica. And for this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received from us the word of God's message, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe (1 Thessalonians 2:13). Paul Spoke Of My Gospel Paul spoke of "my gospel." He said the preaching of Jesus Christ had been kept secret but now had been revealed. Now to him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which has been kept secret for long ages past, but now is manifested, and by the Scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the eternal God, has been made known to all the nations, leading to obedience of faith (Romans 16:25,26). However, believing to have a divine message does not make it so. What evidence do we have of this message having been sent from God? Paul Received Direct Revelation From The Lord The Bible teaches that Paul received direct revelation from God. Paul wrote. Have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? (1 Corinthians 9:1). After an encounter with the ascended Jesus on the Damascus road, Paul had it explained by Ananias: The God of our fathers has chosen you that you should know his will, and see the Just One, and hear the voice of his mouth. For you will be his witness to all men of what you have seen and heard (Acts 22:14,15). Disobeying His Writings Brings Discipline Paul said that anyone who disobeyed his writings was to be disciplined by the local church. He wrote. If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of that person and do not associate with him, so that he will be put to shame (2 Thessalonians 3:14). To the Corinthians he wrote. I already gave you a warning when I was with you the second time. I now repeat it while absent: On my return I will not spare those who sinned earlier or any of the others, since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking through me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you (2 Corinthians 13:2-3). Paul also wrote. If anybody thinks he is a prophet or spiritually gifted, let him acknowledge that what I am writing to you is the Lord's command. If he ignores this, he himself will be ignored (1 Corinthians 14:37,38). His Writings Were Considered Scripture During His Lifetime The final point is that the New Testament recognized Paul's writing as Scripture. Peter wrote: Our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which some things are hard to understand, which those who are untaught and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the rest of the Scriptures (2 Peter 3:15,16). The writings of Paul complete the New Testament. He was the chosen instrument to explain the meaning of the two comings of Jesus Christ. Summary Saul of Tarsus was a great enemy of the church. However he was converted on the road to Damascus while in the midst of persecuting Christians. He became the Apostle Paul - the greatest missionary the church has ever seen. Paul was given the task of explaining the ministry of Christ to the Gentile (non-Jewish) world. We find that he received direct revelation from the Lord. Paul also believed his message to be divine. The Apostle Peter confirmed Paul's words as Scripture. He was God's chosen instrument to reveal much about the central truths of the Christian faith. Paul also explained the necessity of the two comings of Christ.

Galatians 3:1-10 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified? 2 This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh? 4 Have you suffered so many things in vain -- if indeed it was in vain? 5 Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? -- God's Covenant with Abraham 6 just as Abraham "believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." 7 Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. 8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, "In you all the nations shall be blessed." 9 So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham. 10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them."

If as Christians we are under the new covenant to love on another... my question is how much? Will Jesus NOT pay the penalty for those of us who may NOT have ENOUGH love for others? HOW much shall we love them? How much is enough love that we have to feel and exercise in our lives to be welcomed by God unto heaven when our earthly life ends? This is where I see works of love and service to others become a form of people working out their own salvation, after they understand and accept the free gift of what Jesus did on the cross for them. It seems natural that those who understand and accept the gift of Jesus’s act of love for them... a person naturally would want to love God back and pass that love on. But there still will be times of selfishness and other sins. It’s scary when I hear Christians talk about acts of love like they’ve acquired a certain amount like notches in their belts for salvation. When we think that way it takes Jesus off the thrown of being the very sacrifice for us that he was, for our salvation. We don’t earn our salvation by our actions but rather by the acceptance and belief in who he is and what he did, acknowledging our inability to follow the law and not sin. The whole old testament proved that it was impossible to not sin, it was impossible to follow all the laws and commands. God saw our problem and provided the solution in Jesus. When we put our faith in Jesus Christ and make him the Lord of our life, his Spirit comes and dwells within. That is how the law is now "written on our hearts." When we walk in the Spirit, we are not breaking the law of God. Galatians 5 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

@@jenniferbecca3050 Your question is a little vague but i assume you mean to keep the commandments of God is slavery? Would God take a people out of bondage and place them in another and call it deliverance? The Law was never a death sentence but freedom if one obeyed its voice. Rm 7 tells us it was our own flesh and hard hearts through sin that was the cause of the problem with keeping the righteous and beautiful Law that reflected its glory in the face of Moses. Your interpretation of Jesus fulfilling the law is also not correct, it means he administered the truth to its full meaning summarised in Love of God and your neighbor. It does not mean because he kept the law you dont have to, he said follow me, and teach the commandments of his father as he had shown to his deciples that means us too. Galatians in context is mostly defending the righteous commandments of God away from the commandments of men, in that instance the Law enforced by the rabbinical Hirearchy known as the "works of the Law". Paul condemned it as "another gospel" and bondage, and cursed because it usurps Gods authority in the earth, NOT the word of God spoken through Moses. If pastors would learn this difference we all would be better off.

@@Zion-jw3gm Galatians 4 talks about being a slave to the Mosaic Law. We are no longer slaves to the Mosaic Law, because Jesus fulfilled it with his death. Galatians 4: 4 What I am saying is that as long as an heir is underage, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. 2 The heir is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father. 3 So also, when we were underage, we were in slavery under the elemental spiritual forces[a] of the world. 4 But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.[b] 6 Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba,[c] Father.” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir. Paul’s Concern for the Galatians 8 Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods. 9 But now that you know God-or rather are known by God-how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable forces[d]? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again? 10 You are observing special days and months and seasons and years! 11 I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you. 12 I plead with you, brothers and sisters, become like me, for I became like you. You did me no wrong. 13 As you know, it was because of an illness that I first preached the gospel to you, 14 and even though my illness was a trial to you, you did not treat me with contempt or scorn. Instead, you welcomed me as if I were an angel of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself. 15 Where, then, is your blessing of me now? I can testify that, if you could have done so, you would have torn out your eyes and given them to me. 16 Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth? 17 Those people are zealous to win you over, but for no good. What they want is to alienate you from us, so that you may have zeal for them. 18 It is fine to be zealous, provided the purpose is good, and to be so always, not just when I am with you. 19 My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you, 20 how I wish I could be with you now and change my tone, because I am perplexed about you! Hagar and Sarah 21 Tell me, you who want to be under the law, are you not aware of what the law says? 22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman. 23 His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise. 24 These things are being taken figuratively: The women represent two covenants. One covenant is from Mount Sinai and bears children who are to be slaves: This is Hagar. 25 Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present city of Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children. 26 But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother. 27 For it is written: “Be glad, barren woman, you who never bore a child; shout for joy and cry aloud, you who were never in labor; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband.”[e] 28 Now you, brothers and sisters, like Isaac, are children of promise. 29 At that time the son born according to the flesh persecuted the son born by the power of the Spirit. It is the same now. 30 But what does Scripture say? “Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son.”[f] 31 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we are not children of the slave woman, but of the free woman. Yet, people want to still follow it in their everyday life. The Mosaic law is a burden. Verse 7 specifically tells you that the ministry (Mosaic law) brought death. Jesus came to save us from it. 2 Corinthians 3:7-18 The Greater Glory of the New Covenant 7 Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, transitory though it was, 8 will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? 9 If the ministry that brought condemnation was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness! 10 For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory. 11 And if what was transitory came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts! 12 Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. 13 We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. 14 But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. 15 Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. 16 But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate[a] the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

Understanding the difference between Old Testament (OT) and New Testament(NT) The New Testament is OLDER than the Old Testament/Covenant. Specifically, the New Testament is 430 years older than the Old Testament. In Galatians 3 vs 17 - 18, the apostle Paul says, “And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect. For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise”KJV. A Testament/covenant does not come into existence until the death of its testator/mediator. Sadly, those who assembled the Bible appear to have missed this obvious gospel truth, and it’s causing a lot of confusion to many folks out there! Me and you have as a result been erroneously taught that Old Testament ends in Malachi 4 vs 6. But, this is NOT true according to what Scripture says! The word of God says in Hebrews 9 vs 16 - 17, “For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth” KJV. The Old Testament ends at Golgotha, when Jesus was crucified (Matthew 27; Mark 15; Luke 23; & John 19). At Calvary, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ put an end to the old order (Old Testament) and that is why when He had received the vinegar which was put to his mouth, Jesus said the words, “IT IS FINISHED” Read John 19 vs 28 -30. It marked the end of the Law of Moses (the Mosaic Covenant or the Old Testament - which is made up of 613 laws, including the 10 commandments God gave to Moses on Mount Sinai/Horeb: Exodus 20). It was at Calvary where Jesus put an end to the Law of Moses/Old Testament. Remember He came to fulfill the Law as he had said before going to the Cross, “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled” Matthew 5 vs 17 - 20. But, we see when the Risen Jesus Christ appears to the disciples at Jerusalem, He says, “..These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be FULFILLED, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.” Luke 24 vs 44 KJV. Now, take note of this… A testament/covenant has its own laws and two different covenants cannot be run concurrently; the two CANNOT coexist without confusion. Glory to the Most High God!!! Here’s why we have this, “Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the LAW; Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He TAKETH away the first (Old Testament or the Law of Moses), that he may establish the second (New Testament). Hebrews 10 vs 8 -9 KJV. The word of God says in Hebrews 8 vs 13, “In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which DECAYETH and WAXETH old is ready to vanish away”. Colossians 2 vs 13 & 14 “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; BLOTTING OUT THE HANDWRITING OF ORDINANCES that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his CROSS”. Jesus Christ, the Anointed One of God, is the FULFILMENT of the Law of Moses! But someone may ask, ‘What do you mean when you say Christ is the fulfillment of the Law? Well, here’s your answer…”For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit”: Romans 8 vs 3 - 4 KJV. Beloved, are you not trying to make yourself righteous by observing the Law of Moses? Are you not a well-respected and highly honored member of your church because you’re a faithful tither? Are you not trying so hard to keep the Sabbath/7th day? Don’t you observe the Passover feast? Do they not read out loud the ten commandments from the pulpit without preaching the revealed word of God from these laws? Everything written in the Old Testament was prophesying about the suffering, death, resurrection and glorification of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. In the book of Acts, we see the apostle Paul testifying Christ before king Agrippa and Festus, saying the following words, “Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying NONE OTHER THINGS than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come: That Christ should SUFFER, and that he should be the first that should RISE from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles” Acts 26 vs 22 - 23 KJV. The Old Testament is a shadow of the New Testament! I must be beside myself…what do I mean?!!! When God gave instructions for the Passover in Exodus 12, it was a shadow/prophecy/allegory, or in other words, a type of Christ as the true Passover. In 1 Corinthians 5 vs 7, the apostle Paul says, “Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us” When God commanded the children of Israel to keep the Sabbath, it was all about the rest that Christ would give to the believers/saints or those whom God chose before the foundation of the world. Christ is our 7TH Day; so we rest in Him. This is the rest spoken about in Hebrews 4 from verse 1 - 11; the same rest Jesus was speaking about in Matthew 11 vs 28 & 29, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls”KJV

And the jews are under a covenant with God. Do you think that gets any of us into heaven? You see the fundemental difference between judaism and religion is this. Religion is all about what we can get from God. Health, wealth, with enough faith perhaps eternal life. Judaism on the other hand is all about what God needs from this world. Judaism is about being selfless. It's about what service we can do for each other. When was the last thing you did something for god, not because it made you feel good, not because it was easy, but for no other reason than.that God told you to do it? I'm not remotely worried about being saved, heaven or hell. None of that is any of my business and I'm supposed to be serving God, not serving myself. God has blessed me beyond my wildest dreams and most of it I recieved without asking. I derive joy from denying materialism and immersing myself in Torah. From doing service for others even if I don't like them. Why would God do anything for me if I haven't earned it? Why would God give me anything if all I do is ask what he can do for me? And why on Earth would God forgive me for praying to him in the name of a man? That's idolatry, I'm not pulling it out of thin air, I invite you to study the laws of idolatry laid out by the Torah before you argue with me over that. Just look at them. I don't expect you to believe them any more than I believe a man can take on another man's sin. Just look at them, and understand they come God. The same God who gave you the 10 Commandments. Do you know what it means to hold no other gods before him? Its not just religious figures. It can be anything. Simply trying visualize God when we pray is idolatry. It heretical to put limits on God. God is not a man that he should lie. Remember that. God is not a man and never will be. Being created in the image of God has nothing to do with physicality and absolutely everything to do with our spiritual image. God is infinite so how can we resemble infinity. It means that he created us with the ability to create. It's something completely unique to mankind and incredibly valuable. No other beings have that ability except for God. Another point I must bring up is why on earth does anybody believe that God changes his mind? He has never changed his mind about anything except for destruction which he promises if we don't repent. He isn't changing his mind, in fact he keeps to his word. If the people don't repent they will be destroyed, if they do they won't be destroyed. Everything else in Torah is positive commandments and he has never changed his mind on those nor will he. Simply suggesting he's infallible and does not forsee the future is heresy and idolatry. I can bear witness to you before the world that God himself said that if somebody tells you the law is changed he is a false prophet and you shall not believe him nor fear him. Let me emphasize that I didn't say that. God said that out loud to the entire world and all of them heard it. If you believe God changed his mind about the laws, you are calling God a liar

Please note that the law is in effect right now...Geez!🤷🏾♂️👇 Romans 3:30-31 [30]Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. [31]Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law. Romans 6:15 [15]What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. What law was Paul referring to? Was it all the Law or A law? Hebrews 8:10 [10]For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: The Law is not going anywhere simpletons, here is what Paul was referring to: Hebrews 10:1-6 [1]For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. [2]For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. [3]But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. [4]For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. [5]Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: [6]In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. It is the law of sacrifice, this is why Christ came for Israel first. Now a good lawyer came along and found a way to have you equitted, let's call that Grace. Does it mean then the Law you broke just goes away, or does it remain for some other would be law breaker? does it mean you can ignore the Law because it no longer applies to you? or does it mean now that you have been equitted you become a model citizen and LEARN to keep it so you don't end up in front of the Judge again? We have a mediator who gave his Life that we might not come into judgement having been judged already because he took our place, don't you think we should at least follow his example and keep the commandments from breaking it?

Galatians 2:11-21 Now when Peter had come to Antioch, I withstood him to his face, because he was to be blamed; 12 for before certain men came from James, he would eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision. 13 And the rest of the Jews also played the hypocrite with him, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, "If you, being a Jew, live in the manner of Gentiles and not as the Jews, why do you [1] compel Gentiles to live as Jews? 15 We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles, 16 knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified. 17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is Christ therefore a minister of sin? Certainly not! 18 For if I build again those things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. 19 For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. 21 I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain."

As opposed to the blessing, which is grace, the Law is a curse upon all mankind, none of whom can possibly fulfill its requirements. While the Law itself is perfect and holy, those who try to justify themselves before its holy Author bring not His blessing, but His curse upon themselves. The Bible itself tells us what the curse of the Law is: “All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: ‘Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.’ Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, ‘the righteous will live by faith.’ The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, ‘The man who does these things will live by them.’ Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: ‘Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree’” (Galatians 3:10-13). What we must understand from this passage is that the curse is not the Law. The curse is the penalty levied for not keeping the Law. The “Book of the Law” refers to the covenant laws that God made with His people during the time of Moses. The Law can point out where we fail and fall short of God’s will, but it cannot pronounce us righteous; that was not its purpose. In Galatians 3 the apostle Paul is telling us that everyone who does not keep the Law perfectly is cursed by it (Deuteronomy 27:26; Galatians 3:10). The reason is that no one can obey the Law perfectly. In fact, there were over 600 laws the Jews had to keep to be right in the eyes of God. The breaking of even one commandment put a person under condemnation. Trying to achieve salvation through obedience to the Law is futile. For example, we all regularly break the first and greatest commandment by failing to love God first with all our hearts, minds and strength (Matthew 22:37-38). As a result, everyone has broken the commandments, and everyone is cursed. The Law demands perfection-an impossibility because we’re all sinful (Romans 3:10, 23). As a result, all who try to live by the Old Law were under a divine curse. But the good news is that Jesus Christ “redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us” (Galatians 3:13). Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice on the cross when He bore God’s curse. Paul explains how in his letter to the Romans: “God presented [Jesus] as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in His blood. He did this to demonstrate His justice, because in His forbearance He had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished-He did it to demonstrate His justice at the present time, so as to be just and the One who justifies those who have faith in Jesus” (Romans 3:25-26). The curse of the Law fell on Christ on our behalf so that the righteousness of God could fall on us, though we did not deserve it (2 Corinthians 5:21).

There is nobody righteous before God. All alike are under the wrath of God, apart from Jesus Christ. Both Jew and Gentile. Romans 3:9-18 What then? Are we better than they? Not at all. For we have previously charged both Jews and Greeks that they are all under sin. 10 As it is written: "There is none righteous, no, not one; 11 There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. 12 They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one." 13 "Their throat is an open tomb; With their tongues they have practiced deceit"; "The poison of asps is under their lips"; 14 "Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness." 15 "Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16 Destruction and misery are in their ways; 17 And the way of peace they have not known." 18 "There is no fear of God before their eyes."

At the root of legalism is the sin of pride, because the legalist thinks that he is able to commend himself to God by his own good deeds. Invariably, he is only looking at externals, not at his heart. Also, the legalist’s pride motivates him to exalt himself in the sight of others by his outward behavior, again neglecting to see the corruption of his own heart. Thus legalism denies human depravity and exalts human ability. As such, it is opposed to the gospel of God’s grace. That’s why both Jesus and Paul clashed with the legalists. Jesus hates legalism because it does not deal with the condition of our hearts before God. Christianity is primarily a matter of the heart. Everything flows from a heart relationship with God, who transforms our hearts when He regenerates us. The Jewish religious leaders seemingly were seeking after God, but in reality they were self-seeking. They didn’t see themselves as sinners in need of a Savior. They saw themselves as good people because they kept the Law. But in reality, they didn’t keep the Law because they didn’t apply it on the heart level. Thus, Jesus in effect said that if they would be as careful about clean hearts as they were about clean hands, then they would be what they ought to be. The structure of our text is that in 11:37-41 we have the setting and overall theme, that legalism puts the emphasis on the external to the neglect of the internal. Then, in 11:42-44 Jesus pronounces three woes on the Pharisees in which He sets forth some of the specific problems with legalism. At this point, an expert in the Jewish law speaks up in self-defense, pointing out that Jesus’ remarks not only condemn the Pharisees; they also insult the lawyers. Rather than apologizing, Jesus launches into a series of three more woes on the lawyers (11:46-52). The result was not repentance, but rather increased hostility on the part of the Pharisees and lawyers in an attempt to trap Jesus in something He might say (11:53-54). The overall theme: Legalism puts the emphasis on the external to the neglect of the internal (11:37-41).

He's 100% correct. The book of Hebrews makes it clear that the old covenant, given to Moses, has been made obsolete and void. The new covenant, which is eternal, is a better covenant with better promises. The old covenant was given to the Hebrews only, and it gave commandments and stipulations for the Hebrews within the territorial boundaries of Israel. The new covenant is for Jews and gentiles no matter what nation they live in, and the new covenant frees all believers from the terms and conditions of the old covenant. Come on, folks. This isn't difficult to understand.

Hebrews states that the sacrificial laws (those about making animal sacrifices for sin) were fulfilled in Messiah, not the enitrety of the Torah. Furthermore, indeed the laws were given to the children of Israel. However, when we put our faith in Messiah, we are grafted into Israel. That makes us the children of Israel. Romans 11:7-33 "[7] What then? Yisra’ĕl has not obtained what it seeks, but the chosen did obtain it, and the rest were hardened. [8] As it has been written, “יהוה has given them a spirit of deep sleep, eyes not to see and ears not to hear, unto this day.” [9] Dawiḏ also says, “Let their table become for a snare, and for a trap, and for a stumbling-block and a recompense to them, [10] let their eyes be darkened, not to see, and bow down their back always.” [11] I say then, have they stumbled that they should fall? Let it not be! But by their fall deliverance has come to the nations, to provoke them to jealousy. [12] And if their fall is riches for the world, and their failure riches for the nations, how much more their completeness! [13] For I speak to you, the nations, inasmuch as I am an emissary to the nations, I esteem my service, [14] if somehow I might provoke to jealousy those who are my flesh and save some of them. [15] For if their casting away is the restoration to favour of the world, what is their acceptance but life from the dead? [16] Now if the first-fruit is set-apart, the lump is also. And if the root is set-apart, so are the branches. [17] And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, have been grafted in among them, and came to share the root and fatness of the olive tree, [18] do not boast against the branches. And if you boast, remember: you do not bear the root, but the root bears you! [19] You shall say then, “The branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.” [20] Good! By unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by belief. Do not be arrogant, but fear. [21] For if Elohim did not spare the natural branches, He might not spare you either. [22] See then the kindness and sharpness of Elohim: on those who fell sharpness, but toward you kindness, if you continue in his kindness, otherwise you also shall be cut off. [23] And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, shall be grafted in, for Elohim is able to graft them in again. [24] For if you were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree, how much more shall these who are the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree? [25] For I do not wish you to be ignorant of this secret, brothers, lest you should be wise in your own estimation, that hardening in part has come over Yisra’ĕl, until the completeness of the nations has come in. [26] And so all Yisra’ĕl shall be saved, as it has been written, “The Deliverer shall come out of Tsiyon, and He shall turn away wickedness from Ya‛aqoḇ, [27] and this is My covenant with them, when I take away their sins.” [28] Truly, as regards the Good News they are enemies for your sake, but concerning the choice they are beloved for the sake of the fathers. [29] For the gifts and the calling of Elohim are not to be repented of. [30] For as you also at one time disobeyed Elohim, but now have obtained compassion through their disobedience, [31] so also these have now disobeyed, that through the compassion shown you they also might obtain compassion. [32] For Elohim has shut them all up to disobedience, in order to have compassion on all. [33] Oh, the depth of riches, and wisdom and knowledge of Elohim! How unsearchable His judgments and untraceable His ways!" Some say that it's different because we are also referred to as the "seed of Abraham", however, Jacob/Israel was born of Isaac, son of Abraham, so this still points to us being Israel. Matthew 5:17-18 says that nothing from the Torah will pass away until all is fulfilled (including heaven and earth passing away): "[17] Do not think that I came to destroy the Torah or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to complete. [18] For truly, I say to you, till the heaven and the earth pass away, one yod or one tittle shall by no means pass from the Torah till all be done." This idea that the law is entirely done away with is not scriptural. To fulfill the law/Torah does not mean to do away with or nullify it (Paul states this in Romans 3:31). When a policeman fulfills his duties, it does not mean that he abandons or disregards them. It means that he upholds them, and accomplishes what he was assigned to do. So, to fulfill means to uphold. That is exactly what Messiah did in His lifetime. He kept His Father's laws and taught others to do the same. He expounded upon what it truly means to keep the Torah, and how it's not just about physically keeping the commands, but also about your heart behind keeping them. When asked about the 2 greatest commands, Messiah said this: "‘You shall love יהוה your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your being, and with all your mind.’ “This is the first and great command. And the second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself." (Matthew 22:37b-39) Many people seem to take this and say "Okay, so in the new covenant, our only commands are to love god and love people." But that is not what Messiah is saying here. On the contrary, He summarized the entire Torah in those 2 commands. Every single thing in the law falls either under loving the Father, or both loving the Father & loving others. The Torah is our instructions on how to love YHWH and love others. Messiah showed us this in His perfect fulfillment of the Torah. The law of Messiah is love, yes, because we are to be motivated by love for our Creator and for others in our doing of the Torah. Not obligation, or pride, or anything else. Final note, the antichrist is said to be the man of lawlessness (2 Thessalonians 2:1-12) What is lawlessness? • "The condition or quality of being lawless, or of being unrestrained, unauthorized, or uncontrolled by law; want of legality or legitimacy. • A lack of law and order; anarchy. • Defiance of the law; outlawry." This is exactly what christianity teaches; that the law was done away with, nullified, cast aside. How can one love and walk with the Messiah (or, as some say, the Christ), while following the doctrines of lawlessness? Of the antimessiah/antichrist? I am not saying this as an attack, I just desperately desire that others come to the truth before it's too late. I used to believe that the law did not apply to us as well, but YHWH revealed His Word to me and allowed me to see that this doctrine of lawlessness is a doctrine of the enemy, not a message of His truth. The church has unfortunately perpetuated certain lies for so long that they are accepted by most as biblical truth. Many scriptures are twisted or stretched and assumed to mean one thing when they truly mean another and nobody questions it because it's the commonly accepted interpretation. It's important to ask yourself: "if I didn't hear this at church, or this wasn't something that the majority of people who call themselves "Christians" believe, would I get this understanding from reading the Bible on my own?"

For instance, the Law of Moses said, “Do not commit adultery”, but the Law of Christ says, “Love your wife as Christ also loved His church and gave Himself for her.” The Law of Moses said, “Do not steal”, but the Law of Christ says, “Give”. The Law of Moses says, “Do not bear false witness”, but the Law of Christ says, “Speak truth”. The Law of Christ can only be fulfilled by grace. Romans 8:2-4

@@doargietweitervandah You're confusing the concept of justification with sanctification. A very dangerous error. Incidentally, you imply that the command to love God with all your heart and your neighbour as yourself is somehow the soft option. On the contrary, to fulfill the new law of Christ is far more demanding than the O.T laws. The law says do not murder but Christ says that hating someone is akin to murder. Likewise with the command against adultery. Christ said you've committed adultery when you look at someone with lust. These standards far outweigh the mosaic and levitical law!

Hi Kenny The power of sin to kill us, comes from the penalty established in God's instructions for wrongdoing. If you follow God's instructions by Faith as the New Creation it is God who writes His Instructions on your heart ....the new covenant to replace the one we all have broken in multiple ways. THE NEW COVENANT is described in the Prophets. Ezekiel 36 & Isaiah 31....... walking in God's statutes & keeping his ordinances are all standard reference to the body of God's Laws. It expressly says I will cause you to DO them! The New Covenant was actually given to Israel & gentiles are grafted into it to become ONE NEW MAN with the Jews who turn away from the false traditions & interpretations of Judaism & turn to God in Messiah/Christ. Eze 36:26-27 WEB 26 I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes. You will keep my ordinances and do them. Nothing wrong with God's Law it wasn't changed our hearts were the problem. God overcomes that and removes the stony rebellious heart of sin to give us a heart of flesh that responds to be obedient to the new Instructions of righteousness as the old instruction to sin / disobedience is removed & we go through the veil into the holy of holies to perceive the way of Holiness which is obedience through gratefulness. God is holy ...no- one sees God without being clothed in holiness. Remember the story of the wise & the foolish virgins.?..The wise had oil for the lamps others didn't. The foolish were locked out after they ran around to fill their lamps. Oil is what gives light in scripture. The Word of God gives light & those practicing it just as Jesus did as example have light. Romans tells us, Jews and( with Law ) & Gentiles ( without Law ) are all judged by the Law of God. That means all mankind are judged by the same standard. Just as Eccliastes in the last chapter does. Some will have faith & be obedient to the instructions others won't. Jews thought they were saved because they were Jewish but the principal is....faith in God means to live in His ways or you are breaking covenant. Covenant is the relationship where the mercy that we received is established in us more so we understand God's eternal truth in our new actions of the Eternal Kingdom as potential citizens of Heaven. We all should be humble & have repentant hearts. Paul says to walk out our salvation with fear & trembling & to run the race according to the rules to receive the price. Christ lived & taught obedience. Any place you think Jesus did otherwise you will find when you study Judaism that the traditions of Judaism were what Jesus opposed when they puffed up the hypocrites with false handwashing rituals or made it illegal to eat with a gentile and/ or actually misrepresented God's Law to make it a burden for the people or made God's Law of none effect. Must go now. Bye FJ

This is where things get confusing for me For those who love the lord will follow their commandments How does that bloom? For instance it seems fair to say that animal sacrifices or substitution atonement has been carried out through Jesus,so no need for animal sacrifices But what about the dietary/civic laws or the moral law? Do I just pick and choose what I’m convicted to follow? I’m grateful that for all our shortcomings, Jesus stands in the gap for all of us. But I’m genuinely confused, and is my pursuit in finding the law somehow binding me into a form of legalism that forgets the entire point ? God help us find your voice/will

The way I grew up it was sort of taboo to ask the tough questions, but as an adult I think it’s perfectly fine, and good to ask such questions. I’m not afraid of hard questions because I know that the answers lie in scripture, as the word is the ultimate truth.

Sounds good to hear people say "Jesus followed the law, so we should too." Unfortunately for these people they are not taking the counsel of the entire word of God. The New Testament has 27 books. The epistles are supposed to explain the 4 gospels. Anyone who interprets the 4 gospels outside of, or in contradiction to the teachings of the apostles is teaching their own doctrine apart from scripture. Period.
@kennycouch61355 жыл бұрын
Jesus Christ spends a good portion of John 14 explaining to the apostles that he is God. He then goes onto say that we are to keep his words and his commandments. 15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever-- 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. 19 "A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. 20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. 21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him." Notice in the first verse he says to keep his words. His commandments because he is God and his word has been revealed to us. The law of Moses was given to Israel. The law of Christ is given to those who believe in him. Everything a Christian needs to be a Christian is found in the New Testament. There were many things in the Old Testament that were hidden and then revealed in the NT. It's ok to look back at the OT but it must be understood in light of the fact that the NT is what applies to us. Galatians 6:2 2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Devon Bailey the Old Testament law will not pass away because the Old Testament laws still relevant for unbelievers (1 Timothy 1:9,10). If you read the verses before that it says Jesus came to fulfill the law. That's exactly what he did. Because we could not keep the law perfectly but Christ could and did.

Devon Bailey it's not guesswork. The bible plainly tells us what John is talking about and if you want a list of sins, sins are given in the New Testament. We don't have to look to the Old Testament to see what sin is.

There is probably no sin more tolerated or more widespread in the Christian world than legalism. It may surprise you to hear it labeled as sin. Legalists are thought to be a bit overzealous or “uptight,” but they aren’t usually thought of as sinning in the same sense as adulterers, thieves, liars, and the like. To the contrary, legalists seem to be concerned about holiness. Yet the Lord Jesus had more conflicts with the legalists of His day than any other group. It wasn’t the adulterers, the robbers and that sort, who put Jesus on the cross. It was the legalists. Later on, the Apostle Paul had the same experience, as the legalists dogged his steps, perverting the gospel of the grace of God. When you study the life of Christ, it is noteworthy how He deliberately did things to provoke the legalists. He could have healed people on any other day of the week, but He often did it on the Sabbath. He could have been more discreet in violating the Pharisees’ rules, but He did it openly. When a Pharisee invited Jesus to dinner, He could have gone along with their elaborate hand-washing custom, but He deliberately ignored it. When they questioned Him about it, He could have been more polite, but He blasted them for their hypocrisy. When a lawyer pointed out that Jesus had offended them as well, He didn’t say, “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to offend you good folks.” He said, “Woe to you lawyers as well!” Jesus confronted legalism as sin.

Galatians 2:16 Yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified. Romans 7:6 But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code. Romans 6:14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

Spurgeon- Galatians 2:21. I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. If a man can be saved by his own works, and willings, and doings, then Christ’s death was an unnecessary piece of torture; and, instead of being the most glorious manifestation of divine love, it was a shameful waste, putting upon Christ a terrible burden of suffering which was totally unnecessary.
