The 144,000 is from the twelve tribe of Israel, while the other group, the great multitude is from every nations, tounges. The 144.000 is the first fruit, while the others the second which is unnumbered. This is not a symbolic number. The eight people that were saved in Noah's ark; the 12 disciples, the 120 apostles at Pentecost, and many others could mention, all of which is literal numbers👍.

That’s not necessarily correct. You have to differentiate when you’re looking at a historical record in the Bible, like the creation or the rise of Jesus after death, and when looking at something like a prophecy or a vision of the future. If everything the Bible says was literal, Jesus would have been a powerful military leader who took over the world, but instead he was a servant who died for us. Revelation is full of symbolism and things that aren’t meant to be taken literal, it even says it multiple times and explains multiple symbols.

But mankind of this day and age, especially certain Churches, have an “interpretation” of what they think, just about any part of scripture, “really” means. Scripture says exactly who they are. It shouldn’t up for debate based on eschatological positions. They are the Jewish remnant Paul talks about in romans 11. Isaiah 10:20-on mentions them too. Rev 14 calls them virgins and first fruits. This is a direct reference to Jeremiah 31, hosea 9, and psalm 68. They are the preserved Jewish remnant that fled to the wilderness. Numbers are not figurative unless they are specifically applied to a prophetic mathematical formula. Math is gods signature.

@@malakotfoster2206 when it refers to a timeline there are two formulas in scripture sometimes used: one is in Daniel 9 where 1 day is 360 days or one Hebrew year. And the other is found in 2 Peter 3, psalm 90, and revelation 20 where 1 day = 1000 years. There are prophecies where these formulas are used specifically for timelines. In fact where these formulas don’t apply God usually uses multiple ways to express the timeline. For example the final 1260 days of the tribulation is not to be confused with another formula. It’s literal days. So he also expresses it as “42 months” or “time, times, and half a time”. Same thing with the 2300 days in Daniel 8… so as not to confuse it with the formula in Daniel 9 he specifies evenings and mornings. God uses math as his signature. It was his signature on Jesus first coming and his death, burial, and resurrection in conjunction with Jewish feasts laid out in Leviticus and a timeline laid out in Daniel. He’s doing the same thing for his second coming. If you read through Old Testament there is an excessive use of numbers and numbering to the point we have a book called “numbers”. Everything means something. When a-millenielists allegorize numbers they’ve absolutely overlooked and missing out that a literal 1000 year reign of Christ on earth is a key clue to as to the timing of his return.

Also you cannot earn your salvation, it is a gift from God, not from earned by works or by leading people to Christ. The book of Revelation is apocalyptic literature and is a book filled with symbols . This does not mean we don’t read it as true or literal . We read the literal symbolic meanings . The same would go for the 1000 years on Revelation 20 . If you read that as a literal 1000 years then why is it not a literal dragon bound with a literal chain in a literal abyss with a literal lid or seal over him? The vast majority of Revelation is taken from Old Testament language and needs to be interpreted likewise . Also the literal approach tries to read the Revelation in chronological order as it unfolds .. if you take a closer look there’s a series 7 cycles each ending with the Victorious Christ who redeems His people . The Revelation is a book filled with hope amidst the trials and tribulations of this world and was written for the encouragement of all believers in every age .

I would have to disagree. In Revelation 7: 4-9 After speaking about 144,000, verse 9 it clearly states that “then he saw a great crowd that no man was able to number”. Which clearly puts emphasis on the 144,000 as a number that man can count. . It is a distinct number made up of 12,000 From 12 Tribes then there is a great crowd that no man can number. So if the 144,000 was symbolic why would it be able to be counted and the other crowd not wouldn’t the 144,000 be as well a random number unable to be really counted as well there is a clear distinction here between what is countable or literal and what is not.

I figure they will be spread over the whole earth as John talks about the numberless multitude of all nations, kindreds, people and tongues after the tribes were sealed (Revelation 7: 1-11). The book of Revelation is indeed a mystery. I was fascinated by it when I was 12. That was 46 years ago. John the Beloved was given this Revelation on the Isle of Patmos. He was a different type of disciple as we see in all of the books in the Bible that he wrote. God seemingly set John apart from the other disciples as the beloved. To me he seemed the most humble of all the disciples and God did give him grace. Jesus said to Peter and then it was said among "the brethren" "If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?" It will be amazing to be a witness as I believe we who are in Christ will be able to see to the end of this age the things of Revelation come to pass. What a glorious and awesome God we serve!

I live in Sweden so I'm not the Southern Seminary, but I am currently having an incredibly long discussion with a Jehovah's witness and I see the same kind of arguments being used - the list of tribes is different and Dan and Ephraim are not listed, therefore symbolism. What on earth is the logic in that???? I pointed out to the JW who tried to sell that argument that there is a perfectly good reason for this. Some people point out the fact that Dan and Ephraim went further in idolotry than the other tribes and were rejected for that reason. However, while that may play into it, I think there may be another reason. We can read about the twelve tribes of Israel in Genesis 48. In that list we see that Levi and Joseph are present. Then later on when the land was to be divided between the tribes, Levi was not included due to the priestly duties that the Levites were to do. So the list was restructured, with one important thing that needed to be maintained - there had to be 12 tribes, not 11 or 13. Levi and Joseph were out, and Ephraim and Menassah were in. So if restructuring the list of tribes makes it symbolic then that would mean the list was symbolic when the land was divided. That's how much sense their argument makes! Also, since the tribes listed in Revelation 7 are under the New Covenant, we can expect and understand the reason for yet another restructuring of the list to occur. In the New Testament we are all kings and priests. There is no longer any reason to exclude the tribe of Levi. And from then on it is up to God to restucture the list as he sees fit - just as long as there are 12 tribes listed. No symbolism needed in other words.

It doesn't matter if your guide is a poem, a work of music, or a literal instruction book, it what matters what ideas are presented, what themes are represented, and what is emphasized. Abstract ideas can be more widely applicable and impactful than literal ideas. Jesus spoke in parables. David wrote songs and poems. God being loving is irrelevant to how he equips us. If you are under the impression that the love of God is a helicoper-parent sort of love that prevents hurt, sickness, trial and failure than you are sadly mistaken. jaytee Revelation 14:3-4 is the answer. I believe they are a prophetical figure that represents a specific identity. Only those things that are freely given to us by God are made available for us to know(1 Corinthians 2:12). These are events that are yet to take place in the future, and God is surely keeping it from our knowledge. Even the apostle Paul admitted that he didn’t know everything there is in the prophecy. He stated that “For we know in part, and we prophesy in part”(1 Corinthians 13:9). There are things in the prophecies that God is keeping from our knowledge because the time for them to be revealed has not yet come. One example is Revelation 19:12 which says “and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, *THAT NO MAN KNEW* , but he himself”. Now, who do you think is one so stupid enough to do a research to know what that written name is? But then further down in the last chapter, we read- “And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads”(Revelation 22:4). So only then if you can wait until the end when that thing is stick in your head that you will come to know the name of God.

Good scholarly work. I am an old regular Baptist. I was baptized by my Grandfather the reverend J.W. Pratt 08-08-1988 in the north fork of the Kentucky river at Cornettsville, Kentucky. My Papaw Pratt preached for 55 years and was Pastor at Little Leatherwood ORB Church. I had experienced an appearance of the glorified glowing Christ who placed a white stone in my right hand that had my name written in it. It was a name that means victory which I had before this world was created. It identified who I am in him. It is the white stone of prophecy. I am protected like all Christians and likewise God is my avenger. I have had prophetic visions of his return. And, I can often speak things into being especially when I really need to. I have to be careful with my words. I am just a mere mortal man who is a sinner like everyone else. But, I know Jesus is real. Biblical Faith is not believing things you don't know. It is direct knowing imparted as a gift from God. The Jehovah Witnesses refer to the 144,000 as the John class who will lead and rule over the flock when Jesus comes in the clouds with his angels singing a new song About New Jerusalem, the heavenly city of God descending from the sky with him to the Earth. But, I agree with this scholar somewhat in that though having different gifts and calling from the Savior, no one will be ranked above or considered better than anyone else. We will become one with the savior who is one with the Father. We will be more than conquerers in him forever. Time will be no more. He is ever present with us. Eternity exists only in the now. God is the spirit of love.True worship is awareness of his living, loving, healing, overcoming presence now. Dare to tell about devine interventions. I was once in a horrible situation, facing 2 strangers persons about to attack me. Suddenly one of them screemed and lost his grip on me. The other gasped and they looked with the greatest fear on something behind and over me. A woman came from a house near by, the men ran for their lives, holding their hands on the ears for some reason. The woman tok my arm and had me sit down. " Didnt you see her?" she said. I shook my head, the men probably had planned to murder and or rob me. The woman told me she had seen the mightiest angel behind and over me. It had lit up the air. The sight was so breathtaking she understood at once what was happening. She was a lovely person. Her husband came to us and smiled, he had seen the angel too. I didnt see the angel. But I learned they exist and work in ways we most often dont see or understand. Our Lord really loves us. ❤.

I love to ponder the Scriptures and think about what things could mean. This is one of those things no one knows but the Lord Himself. The churches that scare me are the ones that carve out a doctrinal position on this like JWs. Even though I have the utmost respect for the SBTS faculty, I have to admit that there is really a lot wrong with Dr Schreiner's interpretation. Would any normal person interpret the text this way? As the wise old saying goes: "When the plain reading of the text makes sense, seek no other sense, lest you end up with nonsense." As one Bible scholar once succinctly stated: "If you get Israel wrong, you will never get eschatology right." This applies to Dr Schreiner's views in this case. A few short comments: 1) “Meta tauta eidon” (“After these things I looked”) introduces new revelation, information, or a new vision that is distinct from the previous one. It is therefore grammatically untenable to tie the “multitude” in 7:9 to the 144,000 in vv.5-8. "Meta tauta eidon" always indicates a vision distinct from the previous one. When “meta tauta” is on its own, it is not a new vision, but a next event or happening in the vision. 2) It is said of the "multitude" in 7:14 that they did not come out of the church age, but “out of the great tribulation.” They suffered and died during the first 6 seals. The 144,000 in 7:5-8 come out of the 12 tribes of Israel, whereas the “multitude” in 7:9 is taken out “of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues…” (out of the the great tribulation!) and it is impossible to read this as descriptive of (or symbolism for) the 144,000. It also makes no sense to use a definitive number (144,000 - consisting of Jews exclusively) as symbolism to describe a multitude that is innumerable (consisting of non-Jews and Jews). Three more comments: (a) Why are the 144,000 (in Rev 14:1, 3) not called a "multitude" in these 2 verses? Because the multitude is not the 144,000. (b) Rev 14:4 clearly indicates the 144,000 were ALL male virgins and if this is not literal, then who decides what it means? It means they were all male virgins. Are you telling me the multitude in Rev 7:9 from all the nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues were all male virgins? Really? (c) Rev 14:4 also indicates the 144,000 are the "firstfruits" to God. The multitude of Rev 7:9 clearly does not fit the use of the word "firstfruits," but they fit well the idea of being the harvest. 3) Yes, the Jewish tribal records are no more, but surely God still knows exactly the constituents of each tribe, and is well able to select 12,000 from each of the 12. And as 12 X 12,000 = 144,000 is it not incontrovertible proof that this must be interpreted literally in a straightforward manner? (And we certainly know that Israel always consisted of 12 literal tribes). 4) There are many possibilities to consider the absence of the tribe of Dan (beginning in Gen 49:16-17, Judg 18:27-30, 1 Kgs 12:28-30 - and even their later reinstatement in Ezek 43 and 48), but even though God does not reveal all the reasons for excluding Dan at this point, it certainly does not justify disemboweling the plain and literal interpretation of the text. Really, there are far better and easier ways to interpret these texts, without such elaborate and gymnastic leaps that jolt my conscience every time I hear them. Sorry Dr Schreiner, but I think you need to seriously reconsider your interpretation and beliefs in this area. The way Amils treat the text requires the name of Revelation to be changed to the Obscuration.

A number of years ago it was argued that the Jews would never return to their ancient homeland of Judea and Samaria because they had been scattered among the nations (read what Voltaire wrote about this) However, today, not only have the Jews returned to the land but they also speak their ancient language of Hebrew. My point is...what's impossible for man is not impossible for God. What man cannot understand does not, in any way, negate what God has said. Finally, the book of Daniel is quite descriptive of what would take place in the end days and during the 70th week of Daniel's prophecy concerning the Jewish people/nation.

First and foremost the Church that Jesus built and purchased with His precious blood is comprised of "believing" Jews and Gentiles in this Church Age of Grace. But Roman's 11 makes clear that in Israel there exists a remnant who DO NOT believe. And scripture makes clear that they are in blindness until a certain time...for them is reserved the Time of Jacob's Trouble...and That Time of Jacob's Trouble happens within that 7 year period that has the Great Tribulation in it. We read: Romans 11:5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. 6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. 7 What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and THE REST WERE BLINDED. Romans 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness IN PART is happened to Israel, UNTIL the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. 26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from JACOB: ---THE REMNANT that we see in Revelation 7:1-4, who are on the earth during the 70th week, (that 7 year period of time that has within it the Great Tribulation & Time of Jacob's trouble) are the "REMNANT" that today during this Church Age of Grace are in blindness, they reject who Jesus is....but the Lord has promised he will open their eyes and they will believe. PRETRIBULATION PROOF Let God be true and every man a liar...(Roman's 3:4).... Did you know that in the Old Testament "24" was used to describe a GROUP of people LARGER than 24? 24 was used in the Old Testament TWICE to represent a LARGER group: 1.) King David divided the Levitical priesthood into 24 orders, (1 Chronicles 24:3-5). Each order represented the entire priestly tribe and the whole nation of Israel as it functioned before God. 2.) In 1 Chronicles 25 King David did a similar dividing into 24 of the singers and musicians who would perform worship in the Temple. There were 288 musicians total and King David had them divided into 24 divisions, so similar to the previous chapter, 24 symbolizes the whole group. Now I want to show you something.... In the prophetic book of Revelation (which literally means UNVEILING), we see a group described as "24 Elders" in heaven BEFORE Jesus opens the first seal (Rev. 4 & 5). Now I hear people try to say that the 24 Elders are simply the 12 original Apostles/Disciples of the Lord and the 12 Original sons of Jacob from where the 12 Tribes of Israel came from.... Two scriptural facts debunk that: 1.) The Disciples were Jews, NOT out of every kindred, tongue, people and nation....the sons of Jacob (Jacob was Isaac’s son, Isaac was Abraham’s son) were Hebrew, as the Bible makes clear that Abraham was called a Hebrew in Genesis 14:13, and even Joseph-one of the 12 Tribes was also referred to as a Hebrew in Genesis 39:14. 2.) The Bible states clearly that NO ONE but Jesus has ascended up to heaven but He that came from heaven; and Hebrews 11 makes clear that even those of Old Testament times to whom the promises were made (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, etc. SHALL NOT be made perfect without us (Church). Romans 8 states that we shall be GLORIFIED TOGETHER. So keep that in mind when you read that there is a group in heaven clothed in white raiment (glorified), crowned and seated on the throne at rest; singing about being redeemed by Jesus blood out of every kindred, tongue, people and nation. The Jewish apostle and 12 Sons of Jacob were NOT “out of every kindred, tongue people and nation". We cannot ignore that the group in Revelation 4 & 5 describes themselves as "out of every kindred, tongue, people and nation" which has ALWAYS been a LARGE group in scripture. The 24 Elders are clothed in white Raiment and seated at rest in the throne with Jesus in their midst (overcomer promises from Jesus HIMSELF-Rev. 3:5, 3:21 ), .... You must understand that the Bible interprets itself. We learn what an OVERCOMER is in the Holy Word and truth: 1 John 5:4-5 (KJV) 4 For whatsoever is BORN OF GOD overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that BELIEVETH that Jesus is the Son of God? An OVERCOMER is a born again believer in Christ. The 24 Elders in Rev. 4 & 5 sing in the FIRST PERSON PLURAL (we, our, us) even in the original manuscripts; and they describe themselves as REDEEMED BY JESUS BLOOD, OUT OF EVERY KINDRED, TONGUE, PEOPLE AND NATION; They also sing about being made KINGS AND PRIESTS and about REIGNING. (All exclusively promised ONLY to the Church). Now, what is the original Greek word translated to "ELDER" in the Original language and it's meaning? An ELDER of which Peter called himself one (1 Peter 5),...is as follows: HELPS Word-studies 4245 presbýteros - properly, a mature man having seasoned judgment (experience); an elder. Therefore an "Elder" is a mature person having experience to judge. Remember that as we grow in Christ we go from milk to meat in our understanding. Babies start off on formula, then as they mature they can drink milk, then eat solids. Our walk with Christ is one of growth and even in our understanding of the meat of the word we do grow and mature. WHO is promised to JUDGE WITH CHRIST according to the word? 1 Corinthians 6:2 (KJV) 2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? ..... Jude. 14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, 15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. WE MUST STAND ON THE TRUTH OF THE WORD-RIGHTLY DIVIDED. WE MUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN ISAIAH 28:9-10 WHICH IS "HOW" SCRIPTURES MAKES CLEAR WE ARE TO UNDERSTAND DOCTRINE. Again-keep in mind that the BIBLE which is truth makes clear that WE SHALL BE GLORIFIED TOGETHER (Roman's 8:16-18).....and that no one from Old Testament times of which the promises were first made [Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Noah etc.], shall be made perfect (glorified) without us. (Hebrews 11:39-40). That group in Rev. 4 & 5 can ONLY be (according to the WORD AND TRUTH), no one else BUT THE FAITHFUL CHURCH. If you do not argue against what the WORD OF GOD (JESUS) Himself shows us in the REVELATION (unveiling) OF JESUS CHRIST, you can see the truth of it. THE FAITHFUL CHURCH shall be in heaven, joint heirs with Christ BEFORE Jesus opens that first seal. In the first seal, it is JESUS HIMSELF (while He is in heaven) who unleashes that crowned rider in Rev. 6 at the START of that 7 year period, that has the GREAT TRIBULATION IN IT. Jesus unleashes the Antichrist (the only one who shall have a KINGDOM on earth during that 7 year period that has the great tribulation in it, is the Antichrist), Jesus Millennial Kingdom is after that time... - THE ANTICHRIST KINGDOM is comprised of the false prophet, the antichrist, the dragon, the 10 kings who shall give the Antichrist their power and he in turn makes them part of his antichrist kingdom, and MYSTERY BABYLON. Jesus ALONE is worthy to open those seals, and it is only after His bride is up safely, seated on the throne with Jesus in her midst (Rev. 4&5), ....that Jesus unleashes the Antichrist (first seal) in his full conquering power, in order for him to CONFIRM (magnify/strengthen) THE covenant with MANY, which begins that 7 year period. Jesus unleashes the Antichrist only after the Church is in heaven, because judgement FIRST BEGINS in the HOUSE OF GOD. Then the Antichrist CONFIRMS THE COVENANT WITH MANY (which begins that 7 year period that this Antichrist figure will break-3 1/2 years AFTER he confirms it).... JESUS HIMSELF shows us a pre-tribulation always Rapture by presenting the Church in her position of inheritance and promise in Revelation 4 & 5. See much confusion in this. The Church is Israelite/Gentile, the ONE NEW MAN of Ephesians 2:11-18 passage, with the Commonwealth of Israel remaining entirely separate, and in unbelief. The 144K are literal Israelites, believers in JC, “raptured” from Mt Sion to heaven at the very conclusion of the first 3.5 years of the 7 years Tribulation, so that they do not enter into the “time of Jacobs’ troubles” or 2nd half of the Tribulation, in the same manner that the Church is caught up to the clouds at the Rapture before the entire Tribulation period begins. The problem is to pay attention to the ‘interpreters’ and rather one ought to listen to the HG instead (1 John 3:20,27 “let no man teach you”). The Church in no way has replaced Israel. Catholicism replaces Israel with herself as the ‘Church’, but you are speaking of the Church as the Body of Christ, that herself has not replaced Israel either.

I agree. Most people haven't a clue just how much of the Bible's insights are completely symbolism. The majority of it doesn't translate as actual history. The scholars, those who are actually reading/translating the original records, know this all too well. You all should check out Dan McClellan's channel. He breaks a ton of this kind of stuff down, and gives great supportive historical references for such.
