Many people ask whether collagen can be digested. Collagen is a complex protein composed of 3 strands of amino acids. Hydrolyzed collagen is collagen that has been broken down into collagen peptides of 2-3 amino acids. This CAN be digested and absorbed. There are many studies that show collagen supplements can improve the appearance of the skin. Check out the many brands at your local health food store or my YOUN Health Supplemental Collagen at younbeauty.com . If you still don’t believe me that collagen can help, that’s ok. We don’t have to agree on everything 🥰🥰

@@m4tta it was surprisingly quite fast actually! Just a few weeks it must've been because I hadn't finished the first tub when I found going downstairs no longer hurt. I do find the pain returning if I stop the collagen for a few days so I try to keep it well stocked up! You should try the powder instead of the capsules though, I've read that capsules aren't as effective as powder as you don't absorb stuff fully that way. Powder is more faff than capsules but I've found mixing it with packet miso soup from local Asian shops is a simple and tasty way to take it daily.

A few years ago, I had knee pain and couldn’t walk long distance. I was also taking aleve everday just so I can live a normal life. I started taking collagen supplements that I bought at Costco and it’s been 2 years with no pain, not taking medicine and I hike for miles everyday. Running up the hills is my favorite part. Since my knees don’t hurt anymore and I became active I lost 45 lbs.

@Yummy Amy I’m currently taking Liquid Body full spectrum collagen powder. I started on a regular type that just had type I & III and started seeing results within a few weeks. Full spectrum has five types of collagen so it’s more effective for repairing your soft tissue so I’d recommend trying it if you can find it. I bought mine from Amazon. I’ve also tried the more expensive brand that Jennifer Anniston advertises but didn’t notice any difference in effects compared to the much cheaper brands. The one I currently use dissolves really easily and doesn’t have a strong smell or taste, I mix mine with miso soup each day before bed. Simple and tasty! Just make sure to take it consistently or else the pain will surely return. Hope you will find some relief soon!

@@theladyinblack3055 I really like the Orgain super food and I take it a lot of days as a way of making sure I'm getting nutrients. I feel noticably better for taking it. I haven't started the collagen product yet though, just got it a couple of days ago. I'm ok with their prices because I do see positive, tangible results from the first product I've used. I am not so great at putting on topical skin care products regularly, whereas I do better with supplements I can easily work into my daily diet. I haven't used either brand Dr Youn showed and I have not purchased a product from him either. What I can say is that I did try rosemary oil on my scalp to encourage hair growth because Dr. Youn recommended it and discussed a clinical study showing it's effectiveness as compared to the active ingredient in Rogaine. It does work and because I have had a positive result from one of his recommendations, I am willing to try more.

I originally was looking it up for skin benefits, then I saw the amount of comments,not on a specific product or brand, but on collagen itself. More specifically bovine collagen. When everyone on a skincare comment section is mentioning "not so much an improvement in my skin, but my JOINTS! I have almost no pain now!" That alone was enough to peak my interest. Seems pretty consistent as you are not another person,on a completely different page mentioning how it's helped your joints 😃

I have a question about the biology of this. I was taught that when you eat proteins, they are broken down into their constituent amino acids so that they can be absorbed and carried in the blood to where they are needed to build new proteins. If you are taking collagen supplements by mouth, do they get digested the same way as any other protein you eat? Does getting sufficient nutritional protein intake so you're getting plenty of all the amino acids present in collagen have similar benefit to supplementing collagen specifically?
@andrewbaumann7730
@andrewbaumann7730 2 жыл бұрын
The amino acids and peptide chains collagen is broken into are relatively specific to the protein and thus become available for your body to use to re-make collagen in the skin. So yes, it does break down, but it is then rebuilt to help skin.
@johanneshalberstadt3663
@johanneshalberstadt3663 2 жыл бұрын
I think it is more complex than Dr. Young makes it seem here. But after all, he is also selling these supplements. To my knowledge there was research into in how far some specific triplets or specific aminoacids can be absorbed as is (as the triple peptides) and then act as signals to make more collagen.

Yes, u can get the amino acid from different proteins, but u don't get as much in relation with its weight. Hope this helps :)

It probably doesn’t help much with hair bc the protein in hair is keratin. You might try biotin if you’re not already taking a hair supplement. It also depends on why you’re losing hair, if it’s stress related, thyroid issues can cause hair loss, C-19 can cause hair loss. What the root cause of the hair loss is can change how you approach it so I would talk to your dr about it as well.

Genuine question: From my understanding, collagen is found in normal meats and can be produced in our body at a much lower amount. My question is are these benefits purely from the supplement as an increase to the baseline, or are these improvements seen in people who may have been deficient in some things prior? Also, can the benefits of collagen be seen just by increasing the average person’s protein intake? Just trying to learn!

Actually a lot of Asians born and raise in Asian countries especially SE and especially East Asian takes collagen as young as 16 while most starts taking around the age of 18 to 25 years old. That's why you see all the Thai, South Korean & Japanese have such nice skin. They also use sunscreen almost everyday since high school and some as young as 7 years old (with the parents help). I'm have also been following this routine since I was 16 on and off, but only recently I'm being consistent. Because of this, some people thought I'm 5 years younger than my age (I'm 26). Soon I'm going to start implementing retinoid in my skincare to age better.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I really like this man. However I hope he does a full video explaining all of the evidence discussed in the systematic review and met-analysis were he addresses the limitations. It seems sadly out of character for him and I’ll be very disappointed if he does not demonstrate his professional integrity with a follow up video. What methods were used in the studies? How did they measure and quantify the degree of skin ageing? Was the supplement tested against a placebo? Were the studies included randomised and controlled? Honestly these are just the basics!
@katiekay4516

Although for clarification he did not just reference “one study” a systematic review and meta-analysis is a systematic review and meta-analysis of several studies not just one.
