Small clarification: at 8:19, cat Shark does not freeze the original attack of Gigantic Spright to 6400, it sets the current attack to 6400. This is an important distinction to understand the difference between atk/def modifiers and how to correctly apply them

An interesting thing on question #7 is that something similar happened to me in Master Duel, i had sunny and my opponents uses triple tacticts to steal, i chain sunny to summon both twins, on resolution they steal blue and i can only activate blue effect to destory and not red to draw.

1st one had a scenario come up like this, it doesn't target, but since it's an "and" conjuction you need both to happen, so nothing happens here and smashers resolves without effect. It's also due to cards face downs have no stats. 2nd one I will say 3200 since the modifier of the cat shark would make it 6400 if you detach the material being a fusion-link it will be 3200 base since it no longer can apply it's own modification. I could be wrong though. Spright says the original attack becomes this, So he's 3200 base when cat shark resolves making him 6400 base.

I would have gone 7 out of 8. Funnily enough I also would have used the lifeline to ask coder about how evenly matched would resolve against towers and I also would have given the same answer in question 8 as the contestant did. Looking back at it actually not a hard question but I still do feel a lot better about my rulings understanding

Great video, and I actually learned some stuff I'd never even thought about (XYZ monsters retain their materials when flipped face-down??), but I've got a question related to one of the ruling quizzes. In this Mystic Mine/Carrot negation question, if you tribute a Rank/Link 2 Monster with Carrot, can you destroy the Mine? Since Carrot is a negate that effect, then if blah blah destroy it, does negating the on-activation 'effect' of Mystic Mine count as successfully resolving the first part of Carrot's effect?

when you came to the carrot effect i immediately thought of what I had in a recent tournament. They summoned gigantic spright and i activated fogblade on it. then they chained carot on it but still it's only that effect the card will stay and reaply so gigantic was negated and he basically did -1. fun.

@distantcoder on Question #8 Evil twin ki-sikil & lil-la specifies location where a the cards the opponent must send to the GY. So in that case a token gets removed and robina gets banish when it leaves the field via its own effect. How can your opponent send to the “GY” all of the cards if some can’t because of location rulings?

Question: say opponent activates Mine, I respond with Carrot quick eff as CL2 tributing a lv2, when resolving backwards, am I not allowed to simply pop Mine before its effect begins applying? In terms of last question. If they choose to send Towers would it actually send? Cause I’ve had situations on Master Duel when I’ve summoned Metaphys Horus using the effect of making my opponent choose a monsters they control and give it to me they selected said Towers (and Ulti Falcon) and it did not switch to my control

To answer your question, yes the Towers will be sent to the GY, because the Live Twins has an effect that makes the player perform a certain game action, and does not interact directly with said Towers. Do you follow me so far? As for your Metaphys Horus example, this interaction is a lot like Creature Swap. Creature Swap, despite its wording, does not make the player perform a game action, but rather affects the monsters themselves. Thus, when resolving the effect of Creature Swap and cards like it (such as your Metaphys Horus, for example) if the opponent were to choose a monster that is unaffected by said Creature Swap effect, the monster swap does not take place, and the card resolves without effect.

Loving the series reboot but I feel like these life lines need a redo, especially the judge one. Asking a judge in this almost never comes up because a lot of times you can't answer a question without giving the entire answer away. I think "asking the judge" should just be inherent to the game where they can ask you anything similar at any time and the actual lifeline should be calling a friend or something else.

I think more PhoenixFlareX when it comes to the Dragunity archetype, but I know he's currently doing his own thing with his own life. Still would like to see Cyberknight do one of these quizzes, but idk if he's really "well known" for Dragunity. He seems like he just builds whatever he's super interested in. Although...maybe he could do a quiz on the Number monsters. He does collect all of them, in every rarity possible (he's got a binder dedicated to just the Numbers), so maybe a "Does Cyberknight Know "Number" Rulings" video would be very interesting to see.

I would like a clarification on the first question. Smashers banishes your level 2 as part of the effect, not as cost, so if it’s face down, smashers can’t confirm it as a level 2 and will resolve without effect. With a card like poly, which also sends from the field to grave as part of the effect, why can it still work on face-down monsters?

because fusion summoning is inherently a different effect than sending / banishing. Fusion summoning works with face downs because uh. Because konami said so. That being said, you cannot fuse with your opponents face down monsters, because you cannot confirm they are appropriate fusion material

fusion summon just works that way, it can use YOUR FD cards as fusion material. Even for contact fusion :)

@@XJ-0641 I really don't like how inconsistent that feels compared with other card effects that send cards from one spot to another. If I Orcust Knightmare on one of my monsters, the thing I'm sending is from my deck (which I would feel makes the card I'm sending even more unknown than if it were something I had on the field and was flipped face-down), but I can still send a specific monster to my grave as part of the effect, rather than cost. It's weird that it doesn't feel consistent at all depending on the scenario.

I had this interaction with a judge on a ycs. It was a skill drain thingy and before commiting a play I asked him "If Skill drain is active, I activate a monster effect and then the monster leaves the field as CL2, does the effect resolve?" And after seing my hand (which contained ogre) the judge told me that answering this question would be coaching. To this day I don't get this whole coaching thingy.

@@skuamato7886 Basically, judges can't answer theoretical questions that would impact your decision making. Or answer any questions that involve private knowledge. You can ask things like "Is a Pendulum zone that has a pendulum monster scaled also still considered a Spell/Trap zone?" or you can ask how a particular chain of effects that were already activated will resolve. But you can't ask something like "If I play this set of moves, what will happen?".

How is "banished face-down" different from "sending to the gy" in the context of getting rid of tokens? you can send a token for Ki-Sikil & Lil-La but not banish for Evenly? how does that makes sense? I get that it cant be face-down but, like, a token cant be in gy as well. "They just go *poof*"

So I'd really like Coder doing a video on this whole coaching thing because I always feel like I can basically never ask a judge anything in a tournament aside from "So I/my opponent did x, was that legal?" E.G. a few questions I would have maybe asked here: Does the Twin work just like evenly does in terms of how it's affecting the player vs. how it's affecting cards? Can I send a token to the Graveyard for cost to, let's say, pay cost for an effect? Can I attempt to send Robina to the GY? I'm btw 99% sure the answer to all these questions is yes, I'm just curious wether a judge could answer them in this specific situation EDIT: Watched the final part where coder answered the qquestion and I have to confess, I wasn't aware that you can't send a token to the grave as cost. I guess the reason is that no card on earth sends as cost, they all tribute for cost. And that works.

You cannot send a face up Floowandereeze & Robina to the graveyard as a cost since it cannot be sent to the graveyard. You can send it as part of an effect, it will simply get banished instead.

To sum it up, the difference between cost and effect is the cost must be paid in full whereas the effect is just the resolution of the card. So if you can't pay the cost for a card (i.e. Send 1 card you control to the GY), then you can't use the token or Robina as the card for the cost because neither of them can be sent to the GY as cost. However, because the effect is resolving, then the token and Robina will be affected by the effect, but they'll just go to their respective places (banish for Robina and poof out of existence for the token)
