@Chiungalla794 жыл бұрын
By the same logic, you can add many many items to the list of things that real environmentalists could/should/would never do. And not just the obvious ones. I'm a vegan. I don't fly. I don't travel a lot. I don't own a car. I studied ecology. But there are still things I do that are not environmental friendly. Using the internet for example. Buying products that are packaged in plastic. Buying fruits that don't grow in my region or season. ... Perfect environmentalists don't exists. And becoming vegan is just one step into the right direction. It's not enough, although it is certainly important. And it is not the only step. I would argue that a zero waste non-vegan is as much a good environmentalist as a vegan that don't care about their plastic foodprint. And a person that donates millions for the environment is probably the most effective environmentalists no matter what he does in his private life.
@science-y92093 жыл бұрын
@@Chiungalla79 i agree with most of your arguments but not the last one.. One who donates .. so also be conscious about what he is actually doing.. doing it responsibly or not.. Also.. it's not just about the so called 'perfection'.. but we wanna get as much result as possible.. and quilting meat is actually good for the environment and the animals.. You wouldn't wanna be treated the way those innocent beings are being treated..so yeah.. quitting meat or AT LEAST reducing one's meat intake is very important.. I push myself to the limits.. in terms of reducing my carbon, water , plastic footprint.. on earth.. I aspire to make good impact on people as well as on earth.. So yeah.. i too practice veganism , minimalism, zero waste (as much as possible)etc..
@Chiungalla793 жыл бұрын
@@science-y9209 Okay, I should have phrased that differently. What I actually wanted to say is the following: A person that donates millions for the environment is more effective than a person that just turns zero-waste vegan. He would of cause be even more effective if he would turn vegan on top of that. Although this might not be true. He might alienate people by becoming a vegan. He might be conceived as too extreme and loosing influence in the process. Leonardos message today is "I`m not even a vegan, and I think this is a really good idea." and this probably has a more severe impact as "I`m another one of those extreme vegans, and I think this is a really good idea." If he sits at a steak dinner with some big bosses from the meat industry and convinces them that they could really make even more money with less meat and more vegan fake-meat I would totally support that. Although I couldn`t and wouldn`t do it myself at this point.
@science-y92093 жыл бұрын
@@Chiungalla79 what's the use of that donation .. if the environment can't make use of em.. will that donation inspire millions to reduce their meat consumption or buy responsibly. . What's the use of all the money.. I ask.. You think it would fund institutions and environmentalists. .. but what change will they be able to make if we ..won't change.. I know you are a good hearted person.. but they should change themselves too.. with a positive attitude.. it shouldn't be that big of a deal..cuz if they are concerned.. they should do something about it.. And who knows where that money ends up ... I don't intend to spread hatred.. may be it's not a positive way of perceiving things.. but that's what the truth is.. Also, I'm no millionaire, I'm just a pre med student.. so i certainly can't donate money.. but i can take small steps.. and every bit counts..

I came to this part of my life after using food including animal products for escapism, to comfort sadness, and to not focus on being lonely. Unfortunately there are people who still rely on it as their only minor comfort. When I was ready and willing to change to full veganism, because I remedied all those broken aspects of me with seeking a personal fulfillment in achievement and productive socializing, the transition was voluntary and enjoyed. I don't think there would be a positive response to forcing people. It worked for me because the supermarket options for alternatives to meat, egg, and dairy became just affordable enough to enjoy daily. I say keep the system the same more or less, tighter rules for pollution policy, but heap on the alternatives at the grocery, fast food, and restaurants and really make the barrier to have other fake meats plentiful and cheap, and people will naturally switch because its just cheaper and just as good. Prohibition or cost increases will just make people feel controlled and mad.

So who is the real "Vegan" here then? @sarahd.r47164 жыл бұрын
She does talk about it, but she thinks it is a small decision for each individual to stop eating meat. She's trying to get to the government to change their laws instead, which would impact for example the meatindustry in a different way than just simply by people's individual decisions. If we leave it up to only individual people to make the right choices when it comes to meat, oil, cloth production etc than we won't change enough in time. This does take governments and big organisations changing their ways so norms have no choice but to change in this direction. Right now many don't have what it takes to go vegan as an individual. Many poor people don't have the money for vegetabels and for them it is unfortunetly probably just not possible to go vegan. Maybe they can have like a vegan day a week, but those with a really tight economy might have to choose between a vegan lifestyle or keeping their current one and having enough money for new shoes which they desperately need. I understand the reasons for beeing vegan and I myself is mostly vegan by this point (I became vegetarian about a year ago and it's a bit of a process) but I know that some people just can't go vegan and these people shouldn't be villainized for not being able to. Instead I think their options should be increased by people with the power to make those decisions, like the government.

livestock is responsible for 65 percent of all emissions of nitrous oxide-a greenhouse gas that has 296 times more destructive than carbon dioxide and which stays in the atmosphere for 150 years.{1} In a similar vein, the focus is always almost exclusively on carbon dioxide but methane is 25-100 times more destructive than carbon dioxide [4] and has 86 times the global warming power {5} Put in comparative terms, your average car produces 3-12 kg/day of carbon dioxide. [2][3] to clear rainforest to produce beef for one hamburger produces 75 kg of carbon dioxide.[2] Eating one pound of hamburger does the same damage as driving your car for more than three weeks. If we completely stopped all use of gas, oil, fuel, electricity et cetera, and never used them ever again, we would still exceed our carbon equivalent greenhouse gas emissions of 565 gigatons by the year 2030 just with the impact of livestock alone. I loved animal products and 3 years ago my wife said i wanna go vegan so i asked why and she said animal products make me feel sick or yuck, i thought to myself with no help from KZbin or anyone else why dont i go vegan too, its right then when you take a minute and truly ask yourself, huh -no animal has to die for me to live - I shop at Coles and i get to choose to support life or death everyday and its a no brainer. I choose life

Farting cows, you are making fun of a sad situation, B.G. The production of livestock? Those very words are just WRONG! Live Stock. Living stock.

ditch your plane before you ditch meat lmao. also, do you measure the gas used to move vegetables? it is necessary for the population, unless you do agree with depopulation, this is a fruitless effort (lol) to enforce upon average citizens. The government made the problem worse by ending community made neighborhoods that were more space efficient, and better for the environment

First off, obviously being truly Vegan is the best stance for proof of concept in environmental issues. That said, every single decision moving toward this Ideal is helpful. If we encourage individuals to explore the issues, while bolstering their every positive move, we both make environmental gains, and allow others to feel self-empowered, rather than forced. They are enmeshed in hegemony that openly tells them lies about health, masculinity, and the ability of individual actions to have effects. Vegans who shrilly condemn are the ones who make it harder for us who don't to get open minded folks to hear our shared message. Truth is truth, but people are emotional animals. Telling someone forcefully that their smoking will kill them, showing them disease pics against their will isn't as effective as pointing out the things they will miss out on if they die, and worse, the effects their habit has on their loved ones. Of course, different tactics work differently on individuals, but I am going from what converted me, and my experiences gently converting Progressive friends and family, dubious at first about costs, difficulty in meal prep, worries about how others will react, etc.. People normally think inside out, not outside in. Themselves, family, friends, locality, nation, then world, etc., versus the opposite. Understanding how people are motivated and working within our species' psychological makeup is the fastest way to total global veganism. So yes, someone **can** be an environmentalist while not Vegan, doing their part in their own ways, adding into helping. Are they the "best" sort of environmentalists? No. But none of us is practicing Ahimsa, now are we? Fabric softeners, plastic bag lubricant, vehicle tires, and just driving, all involve suffering we hate, yet often tolerate within ourselves, "until we can change things." Namaste, and Blessed Be.
