The problem I personally have with Remakes and Sequals to levels is they often lack the creativity and originallity of the level they are remaking. Remakes often do nothing new and recycle the same boring animated object spam style that everyone copied off of Culuc and Sequals never feel original because every part just looks like someone ripped off the original and made it harder. They often feel lazy, as if coming up with something new is far too difficult to execute that creating teams HAVE to copy a previously existing level just to get anyone on board. What i can never understand is how all the levels of recent that have been praised above others have all been original. Alot of creating teams think remakes and sequals are the only way to get creator clout but the levels that have the most impact on the game and are remembered in its history are the unique ones. Take Limbo for example. Literally go look at GD Team yt channels or Upcoming Extremes and they're like 99% sequals and remakes. It's sad and as much as i like the idea of keeping the memory of older levels it feels done to death and souless.

I kinda disagree but I also completely agree. The disagree part is from bloodlust, Deimos or keres. When a sequel/remake works, IT WORKS and can change the history of gd like bloodlust did. But the disagree part is when is doesn’t work. Like, at all. For example apocalyptic trilogy. It’s just a mess and it shows that buffing old levels to insanity just makes the level so bad.

Here's my take, it doesnt really matter if who wants to make a remake of a level. Sure, some people hate it, but in the end, its just a game, just enjoy game guys, one level wont "ruin" the whole game

i think that some do, however a remake shouldnt be made just for the sake of there being a remake. there has to be passion for a project, and a reason for it to be made. this is why cherry team levels feel boring, because they usually lack either of these.

I personally like remakes, as long as they either make their own ideas from said level or if they improve on already established ideas. I feel like Bloodlust and Freedom19, for those two reasons, are prime remake. Sequel levels are fine. No matter what path they take, it's usually good enough for me.

Here’s what I’ll say about slaughterhouse, as everyone gets this wrong, not so much nowadays though. Slaughterhouse as a level does not exist based off of Old Slaughterhouse, it is something different. Icedcave made Slaughterhouse when he was very young and put in very little effort intentionally. It blew up and became what people in the community knew him for. Thus, icedcave wanted himself and his legacy, at the time primarily slaughterhouse in broader consciousness, to be associated with something better, a legitimately good level. And so he produced new slaughterhouse. It was meant to capture the idea old slaughterhouse embodied, intensity, but do so better and to have a sheer intimidating atmosphere. And at that, as well as bringing a good taste towards icedcave, slaughterhouse was successful.

Making good and original gameplay is super hard, as anyone would know thats tried to make a level. That’s usually the first thing you do, so I imagine people give up and just say “oh well gameplay is already there and if I make the deco better it’s a guaranteed rate” and slap something together. I don’t think any remakes should exist unless it’s original gameplay inspired by the previous deco and not the other way around

Imo, the only "remakes" that should exist are prequels/sequels or nerfing an old impossible and making it rate worthy. All the other stuff like "reimagined" is purely made to feed off the success of the original level. May be a bit of a hot take but I absolutely despise it when a famous level gets remade into 78 other levels, usually completely different but carries the name of the original level, dare I say Sonic Wave is an example.
