Ultimately, it's all about freedom and individual liberty. If you don't enjoy watching football whilst drinking it's your choice and if you do it's your choice. But, the real question is, did the Qatari government give this liberty to the fans like Western governments do, NO.

I was in Qatar for about 10 days with my 10 years son to watch the WC and visit Middle East for first time in my life. My summary in one sentence: when landed back in San Francisco, I felt I landed in a third world country! Kudos to Qatar for organizing a beautiful WC, top notch infrastructure, very kind people (nationals and residents), family friendly place… I am definitely going back to visit with my wife and daughters this time. Drinking was limited to specific areas like the fan zone. For me that was perfect! I felt extremely safe with my kid, we stayed up late at night everywhere in Doha, it was magical. You don’t see the drunk morons shouting in streets at night. It was a lot of fun though and with 0% alcohol! Visit Souq Waqif any evening or simply check KZbin videos, it was fun, family fun. I came back with an immense respect for Qatar the country and Qatar the people. Thank you Qatar. For some of the European media crying and immigrants rights, it’s the same media crying apocalypse when an African migrants boat arrives to European shores. All hypothetical and pure jealousy towards Qatar!

It looks to me like the norms around what you wear seem pretty relaxed. What Islam asks for in fact is modesty around dress. I've known women to travel in North Africa, Turkiye, the Middle East, and Central Asia, and they've all been more modest about how they dress and not had problems. The same for men. The point is, you're a visitor, you're not at home, respect the culture.

Yet the Western nation fails to do that, in fear of "offending" a specific singular individual. Some religious extremists would shame a woman for not covering their hair, and some won’t find any problem with shorts and a tank top (normal to me too) but i generally think you should dress according to your surroundings. (A bikini on a beach is ok, just like wearing a burqa to a mosque is ok) but more than that, we should also be a lil more tolerant when it comes to accepting the dressing preferences of people

Not to mention domestic violence which is pretty common.
