As a greyhound obsessive - Connie nearly 14 now is our current girl and our fourth grey - I really enjoyed your lovely video. Thank you for posting. Miss Nancy is truly gorgeous. The Chichester harbour area looks quite dog friendly with the cafe that you were able to take her in. We'll have to take trip down there soon. Nice to see that other grey owners take something soft for their houndies to lay on too! Well done for being such a great greyhound ambassador.

I have been addicted to greyhounds for years now. Over the past 20+ years I have been "owned" by several. I work with a local greyhound adoption group and have probably fostered well over 40 hounds the last 20 years. Each with their own personalities, I have had some that are go go go types but most are the laidback snooze variety. I have a soft spot for the fearful and shy ones. Whenever the group gets a shy one I get "the" call and am guilty of failing fostering a few times with the shy ones. I would highly recommend everyone really look at adopting a greyhound. Most people are surprised at how mellow they are. They have only seen them racing and think they are high energy. As you said, a couple of long walks a day and you are good to go. And I have been following you and your little girl in your van life vids. I am going to start doing some part time van life now that I am retired and good to know my "Shadow" a blue will fit fine in the van. Keep doing what you are doing.

That is amazing I really hope I will be able to do that one day, fostering them is so important and I’m not surprised you had a few fails! That’s beautiful you’ve been able to make such a Difference to so many greyhounds lives. Miss Nancy gets so many compliments from people when we are out, not just about being beautiful and elegant 🥰 but about how well behaved she is, coming from people with other breeds of dog that are a bit jealous I think! Everyone should definitely consider getting one, and there is usually a greyhound rescue quite close where you could go and spend some time with the dogs, I think there is one for everyone if people can take the time to get to know them. I didn’t get Nancy from a greyhound rescue, but I knew it was meant to be when she kept resting her head on my shoulder. I’m sure Shadow will like some van adventures, especially if is is happy driving in it now! That’s my main problem with Nancy she doesn’t mind living in the van but hates driving in it…awkward.

Greyhounds make the most beautiful pets. I have had them as pets for over 20 years. They are so gentle, loving, funny, goofy, lazy, sweet, and quiet dogs. The only time mine really make any noise is when someone comes to the front door, and even then it is a small bark, if they make any noise at all! They sometimes bark when in the middle of doing zoomies, and you just get out of the way until they’ve finished having fun! Please give Miss Nancy a cuddle from me - she is so sweet.

That is so lovely, Nancy is my first dog but it really sounds like once you start on greyhounds you can’t stop! I can’t really imagine getting a different kind. I’m afraid when the door goes Nancy just rushes over to say hello 🫣 worst guard dog ever! She does sometimes give a single bark when she is bored and wants to play! I will give her a cuddle thank you 😊

A couple of my former neighboours had two retired racing grayhounds as pets on their small 40ft boat. They were adorable dogs. and I was suprised how little exercise they needed. Until I met them I like I guess a lot of people assume they need to run like crazy every day. very loving dogs with old soul eyes. I'm sure miss Nancy will get used to travelling in your van with you.

Great video. My Mum had a rescue lurcher for many years which was a great dog, think they are quite similar to greyhounds. I am considering a greyhound for a future pet. I am just about to buy my own place again, a bungalow with a garden, which would be perfect. I have a 5 year old boy who is a bit wary of dogs so a chilled greyhound would be perfect. You have a new subscriber, thanks.

Thank you! We are glad you found us 😊 lurchers are great and many have a lot of greyhound in them I think they seem to be a bit more excitable due to the mix of breeds we love them! Some of Miss `Nancys best mates are lurchers. It’s interesting about your boy, Miss Nancy has been introduced to a child in the family who was also very scared of dogs (6 at the time) and she has completely fallen in love with Nancy and got over a lot of her fear it’s great to see! That said of course you need to be careful with any dog and small children, Nancy does suffer from sleep startle so I am always really careful when she’s around children as it can be quite scary 💕

What a great video for Greyhounds! I'm sold on them 😊 I applied for quite a lot of rescue dogs when I was looking, but never got offered any of them 😢 maybe lots of people applying? Bought a puppy in the end. He's a good boy but I'm struggling with number 7, jumping up at humans. That's my only real concern with him, as he's great with all other dogs and humans in general, but he likes to jump up at strangers sometimes which is mortifying sometimes 🤔 Got a new dog whistle last week, he seems to recall better with that sometimes.
@missnancysdayoff
@missnancysdayoff Жыл бұрын
Thank you, I am really glad! 😊 I applied for so many dogs I didn’t get and had to wait ages to find Nancy. Not sure when you were looking but when I was 3 years ago it was plague time, and people had gone crazy getting dogs because they were suddenly at home all the time! Then the rescues were having a hard time because people couldn’t visit like normal so they couldn’t really rehome a lot that weren’t just super easy. And now the rescues are overflowing with dogs people got in lockdown that they got rid of when they went back to work, it’s so sad! No 7. I’m not an expert dog trainer by any means but from what I’ve read, first it’s about not giving them the attention like turning your back when they do that but you’ve probably already tried that, but more importantly teaching them the behaviour you want to see instead of what you are receiving and don’t want! So when he goes to jump up getting him to lie down and giving him a treat, then with persistence it should (hopefully!) become learned behaviour and he lies down whenever he sees someone instead of jumping up! I actually had a whistle I need to get that back out and try it with Nancy again!
@stu.555
@stu.555 Жыл бұрын
@@missnancysdayoff Thanks, I'll try that, I did have a treat bag lost it now. Might have to buy another one, so he has treats when we are out and about. Yes it was during the "plague" when I was applying to the dog shelters. Yeah it's sad, I imagine lots of people just got a dog because they were stuck at home during that time and I bet lots were then later put back into the shelters when the "owner" had to go back to work / "normal" life. Glad I never got jabbed though, I resisted the news TV LOL. I got the dog for my daughter and I, bring us some joy again and he certainly has.. 🐾
@missnancysdayoff
@missnancysdayoff Жыл бұрын
Miss Nancy won’t do much without treats 😂 well she will, but when she realises I have forgotten them or they aren’t very exciting she definitely looses keenness for the enterprise! Yeah it is sad, so many dogs and other animals, I’d like to live somewhere one day I could just get loads and loads of rescue animals 🫶 Lucky you in the end I got one for family reasons and it did NOT have a good effect, never again! It’s amazing how they can change your life, I had never had a dog before and I found it really hard at first but wow I really couldn’t imagine being with out her now! 😊🐕

@@missnancysdayoffHaving said Whippet... I am wondering if part of the Grey's character is down to their racing background and the hardship endured. My friends Mother and daughter Grey's are both loving but the one that raced, Mother, is the one that sticks to me.... Hmmm problem is, everyone wants a black one that has raced...they all seem to be brindle and males round here. I shall keep watching...two or three a day Tori, 106 videos ÷3= a month . 👍🏻

@missnancysdayoff 8 ай бұрын
@dickieb2233 I’m sure we are all part nature part nurture, and the background of hardship must be character forming in dogs too. Where do you live, usually the black dogs are the ones nobody wants I would be so surprised if you couldn’t get a black female greyhound! Once you’ve really decided for sure you could get your name in at some rescues. That is commitment thanks for watching them all ❤️

@@missnancysdayoff Ha ha, not watched them all yet but getting there. Besides, it is much better and spiritually uplifting than watching the despair on TV. I live in Norfolk in a hamlet called Hedenham. The rescue centres are overflowing with dogs looking for new homes. COVID dogs are the reason and not enough owners could see past the lockdown and the effect of dogs in their lives. I am trying to be the responsible one and get all my "ducks aligned" before taking the next step. Greys may have a negative effect on the ducks though. 😉 No seriously, I have two ponds with moorhens and ducks, with pheasants, hare and rabbit in the garden. Very lucky and I should hate to impact on them.

@dickieb2233 that’s kind so nice, I hope I’m going to visit Norfolk soon! Yeah it’s true people can be very shortsighted and let’s face it selfish. And unscrupulous when it comes to breeding dogs. Definitely best to get one’s ducks in a. Row! Hmm it sounds like you have an amazing garden of wildlife, I’m not sure a dog would t disturb it a bit 🫣

I have been tossing up getting a greyhound. I am drawn to greyhounds as a breed because they exhibit “cat like” behaviours. Eg sleeping a lot, more reserved than other breeds, quiet, don’t seem to want to lick their owners (or anyone else) relentlessly etc. Currently have a cat. I know there are some greyhounds who do get along with cats. I am not expecting them to be best friends. My cat is very aloof and she doesn’t even like her own kind 😂. So if she tolerates the dog and vice versa, I would call that a win. Anyway, you mentioned you had cats before? How does a greyhound compare with a cat care wise? My cat is shedding her winter coat right now and it’s everywhere. I guess the dog needs walking whilst a cat doesn’t. And they eat a lot more.
@missnancysdayoff
@missnancysdayoff Жыл бұрын
Hey, well I definitely think greyhounds are a lot like giant cats! Probably part of the reason I love them so much. I don’t think they really see themselves as the same species as other dog breeds, they can make friends with any dogs but I’m pretty sure they feel a bit sorry for the rest of them, recognise their own kind though 🤣 Definitely don’t exhibit all those licky jumpy behaviours lots of dogs do. Giant cats that like to sleep a lot. I’ve never introduced them to a cat so I have no personal experience, from what I’v read some can live with cats they need to be introduced slowly and carefully and with a lot of patience. As long as your cat won’t just run away it might be able to work! In terms of care, yes there is a massive difference. MIss Nancy definitely takes up far far more of my time and energy than the cats did. It’s pretty much a full time occupation (bit like having a toddler I reckon), and the costs of food/vets bills etc are high I wish I’d been a bit more savvy to that. No regrets though because I admit I have a different relationship with Nancy than I did with the cats and it is lovely. Good luck whatever you decide to do and if you have any greyhound questions let me know, they really are the most wonderful dogs ❤️

@@missnancysdayoff thank you for the reply. I will certainly look into it further. My childhood dream was always to own a cheetah 😂. So I guess a greyhound is pretty much as close as it gets to one. There are greyhound foster (and foster to adopt) programs available in my city so I think that would be a good inroad to dipping my toe in and giving it a go to see how everyone manages with the changes.

Here in the states there’s very few greyhounds left for adopting. The few in rescue have lists waiting on them, and I was denied due to being farther from the vets they use then they wanted, without them asking if I’d be willing to travel a little farther(half hour extra) to take them in for checkups. After being heartbroken by the rescue I got lucky and found a puppy coursing greyhound that needed anew home instead. My lucky girl has close to three acres and a couple standard poodle brother and sister to feel the power of a pack still. Oh and my girl is almost a year and JUMPS UP... we’re working on some basic obedience but she’s still perfect to me despite her puppy behaviors that retired racers grow out of before you get them. I’m a professional dog groomer Who works from home. I use a rubber curry to remove dead coat and dandruff, and blueberry facial and shedding conditioner, and mink oil to replenish oils on my silly hound.
@missnancysdayoff

That’s interesting, is that because there is t much greyhound racing in the states any more? Or do they just kill most of them? Sounds like your dogs have an amazing place! Haha she’s a cheeky pup, I’m sure she’s had a different experience from the kennel dogs and more opportunity for puppy behaviours 🐶🩷 your dogs must all look beautiful in your care, I had a rubber curry but it seemed so big and hard on her, maybe I should try it again! 😀🙏
