Kelly I live near Dallas where we get 100 degree days in summer. I have tried to grow hydrangea numerous times and I can’t stop them from burning up. Our soil has a lot of clay in it. Can you offer suggestions? My yard is very green St Augustine grass is quite green. For the most part our landscaping does well but if u can offer advice I would appreciate it.

Hi Craig, sure thing . You can amend yiur clay soil by adding some organic compost to it so it loosens up a bit. If there is a spot in the garden that has some shade from nearby trees or large plants , use that shade to protect your hydrangeas . Since temps get sooooo hot by you, I would aim for no more then 5-6 hours of sun if possible . Also keep up with the watering . That will help . Last suggestion is to try varieties that love the sun like limelight hydrangea and smooth hydrangeas 🌸

So my mop head hydrangeas get full sun and I thought I was doing something wrong because I notice they are fading. So there is basically nothing I can do about it. Oh man, this growing pretty flowers thing is hard.

I have a couple of standard little limes that get full sun and as you say they love it and are full of blooms every year, temps where I am in U.K. are probably not as hot as you though. They are actually in pots (and have been for around 8 years) growing to around 7 ft but 3 ft is the standard stem and every spring I prune the stems back to around 1 ft which keeps them compact and not top heavy for the large pots they are in which are probably half barrel size. David, I loved reading about your Little Lime hydrangeas . They sound amazing. Did you have to keep increasing the size of the pots as the hydrangeas got larger to keep the roots happy? Hello Kelly. I have had a Tokyo Delight hydrangea for many years, more than 12. It bloomed once or twice in it's early years, but barely since. It's in full sun. I want to move it to a spot where it will get the right amount of sun and shade to bloom. When is best time of year to transplant? Should I cut it back first? What should the sun and shade exposure be? Thank you!!

There may be too much nitrogen in the soil . Try holding off on the fertilizer . 🌸

@@KellyLehman thank you kelly. I fertilized very little at the beginning of the season. I pruned it in late March. I think I pruned it down too far.
