Do you really need custom orthotics if you're a runner?
If you're a runner and a doctor suggests custom orthotics, you may need orthotic inserts, but you may not. At least not forever.
Many runners just need custom orthotic therapy for a short time to help heal an injury and keep running.
This video by Dr. Christopher Segler talks about whether or not you really need custom orthotics for running.

I was prescribed custom orthotics as I had minor flat feet (not completely flat feet but flatter than they should be). I found them uncomfortable to wear, but stuck it out for months. I finally threw them out and my felt felt much better. Now I watch your videos so I can wear the right type of running shoe for when I exercise.

Had the same problem....it took over 2 months for me to get used to them ,my right foot got used to them in about two weeks and it was AWESOME!!!!My planter fasciitis was gone in my right foot .....not the case on my left foot my custom orthotics KILLED my left foot .....but I knew what the end result would be if I stuck with it ....took two months of putting that damn thing in and out and eventually....they have been in my foot for months now and my planter fasciitis is completely gone..........that is until I wear a pair of shoes with out my insoles ...I was ready to throw them things in the garbage but I’m glad I stuck with it ....they changed my life ....talk to your doctor maybe he can tweak them alittle bit to help you out

Hey D.O.C- I've been running for a long time. However, I don't need a doctor to tell me my feet are biomechanically handicapped. My left flat foot is flatter. severely dropped ankle, and it rolls in much more than the right foot. I knew something was wrong when I was 13 and I could only dunk on my non-dominant foot, not my left. I had this long critical post I was going to send, but let's face it, people are just becoming complacent and finding reasons to justify why they do not perform their best, and doctors had to adjust. But if you're handicapped, and you want to compete at a high level along with our normies, GOOD custom orthotics that provide balance is the ONLY way to do it. Strength training, stretching, golf balls, blah blah blah! You'll still be less than your normal arched counterpart with the same amount of effort. Now that I got that off my chest, my team's elite podiatrist is backed up for months, so I purchased the Upstep Labor day sale running insoles. I really want to shave off 5 minutes off my 3:25 marathon. No matter how fit I get, I keep breaking down in the late miles. It doesn't help that I have overly fatty hamstrings and oversized calves. Did I waste my money or should someone with my extreme handicap find another podiatrist to perform at a level that matches my fitness?

I don’t run but I just started walking 1/2 hours and the front of my foot has been getting swollen even with my orthotics idk what I’m doing wrong (I have a high arch) I’ve had my orthotics for 2 years ... help anyone ..
