I basically only play mine handheld and only buy games that I think will play well handheld. Unless I'm playing 2 player of course. That said I still wouldn't waste my money on the screen I don't play switch for graphics.

This didn’t do enough to warrant an upgrade. My launch day system still looks great, has enough battery life for me, and I play docked most of the time anyway.

There is no reason to upgrade if you play docked. But I'll upgrade because I play a lot of handheld. The OLED, kickstand, and better battery life will be worth it for me.

Yes I’m getting one. I play primarily on handheld because my hubby hogs the TV playing the PS4. I always wished the screen was bigger, and I love the color white. Keeping my fingers crossed you get a review OLED from Nintendo. You so deserve it!!!

I am getting it. I have a launch day Switch so i am not just getting a better screen, i am also getting a 4.5 - 9 hour battery instead of the original 2.5 - 6 hour one. These two upgrades are enough for me to want to upgrade.

Johnny, the New 3DS was a pretty significant spec bump. Hell, you could only play Xenoblade Chronicles on the New 3DS. That’s how powerful it was.

I don't think that's something they're gonna repeat though because it didn't really work out. How many games ended up needing the New 3DS? Not many. I think the "Pro" version is gonna just be their next gen console as opposed to an upgrade. I'm sure it'll play Switch games though.

I'm going to pick up an OLED when I can get it at MSRP. It's been sold out since pre-orders and being resold for double price on eBay. I got my first Switch last year, and I started looking for one in March last year, but it took all the way 'til September to actually find one in stock. Definitely not in a rush because of the size of upgrade that it is, and I do mostly play on the TV. The reason for the upgrade though is definitely the screen in handheld. The Switch has my biggest video game collection and I plan on being able to play these games far and in to the future. Based on my experience with the Playstation Vita, I really appreciate the color and contrast on those types of screens.

Spot on. It’s a pretty subtle upgrade for people who own a Switch already, but definitely the model to pick up if it’s your first one. I’ll be passing on it until we get a revision with a little more of an update to the original.

Here's why I'm getting it... I've spent almost 4000 hours on my Vita OLED, I still play it to this day, and it's a stark difference going from the Vita to the Switch v2. Of course the graphical fidelity on the Switch is better, but if you set a Vita OLED and a Switch side by side playing the same game, you'll see how bad the screen is on the Switch currently. Most people don't notice it for the same reason that they think their LCD TV from 2014 looks "great" because they aren't looking at it side by side with a new OLED/QLED/Mini-LED/etc TV. I play primarily handheld on my bus/train commute to work and the greatly improved contrast and color along with a ever so slightly larger screen will be a welcome improvement. I'll be giving my Switch v2 to my kids.

I have one pre-ordered, but I'm honestly going back and forth on if I should get it. I've gotta be honest; I'm really easily allured about the new shiny things, as probably many of us are. Though that bigger and maybe better(?) looking screen sure sounds nice, and I'm a real sucker for those new white joy-cons. You made some really good points which made me think about it even more. My current Switch isn't honestly lacking in any way at all, and I'm totally in love with this particular one with all the memories of getting it and having probably some of my best gaming memories with it. As of right now I'm starting to lean on maybe passing on the order so someone else more in need could get a chance to buy it and I on the other hand could spend the money on some new games 'n such. Also also, I could always buy it later on after seeing if it's good! You've given me something to really mull about over my morning porridge. Thanks for the video! :)

I'm going to be passing on this as well. At home I'm always docked, and on the go I've come to love the better portability of my Switch lite. So this wouldn't really be offering me much. Here's a tip though for when you do want to take the normal Switch on the go- on the tablet part of it, right under the joy con rails cut a few small pieces of tape and layer them down on that part. You can't see it at all when the joy cons are attached and it makes it stops the wobbling of the joy cons making it fee like a much more solid unit. Can't go back after you try it.

I have a launch model and love playing handheld so I’m excited for the screen and better battery life primarily. I rarely play in table top mode and I have a big sd card. I’m happy the dock finally has ethernet simply because it’s accessible for more people to be wired in for Smash etc.

I will most likely be getting one since I will be using it mainly in hand held mode during my commutes. I am a huge fan of OLED screens, and actually the enhance audio, albeit not really talked about, is a big deal for me.

I’m a handheld mode only user and one of the advantages of the Switch Lite is that the screen is smaller, so the games won’t look that bad when they run at lower than 720p resolution. The last thing I want is a bigger screen to watch my games running at a crappy resolution and FPS.

I have an OG launch Switch. I kind of thought about it and decided I would upgrade to a Switch OLED only because I have someone interested in buying my OG model so that will cover more then half the cost of the new model for me. Do I need it? Nah but I figured with the chip shortage that doesn't seem to be getting better any time soon, it could be years before we get a proper next gen Switch Pro or Switch 2. I mostly play on my tv (4K OLED owner here) but sometimes it's nice to play in handheld mode as well. Should be a nifty upgrade.

I've pre-ordered one, but mainly because I had the money at the time and I'll be willing to sell my original launch day Switch to recoup some of the cost once I've got everything transferred. My Switch has developed a few cosmetic cracks in the plastic and the fan gets pretty loud when I turn it on and drop into a demanding 3D game. I was already tempted when they released the revised model with longer battery life, so I didn't need much more of an incentive. I don't think it's a necessary upgrade for most people, and I feel a lot of relief in the fact that I can cancel my pre-order at any time if I reconsider, but I'm still really looking forward to it.

I'm a Tech that works in the field and as of the last year or so I've been stuck on "desk duty" so I'm inside all the time. When it was announced I passed on it because of this. But I remember saying "if I could get a better screen I this thing I'd just on it" a lot while playing in my truck. At the moment it's meaningless to me. I play on an OLED screen at home. But once I get back outside... Maybe I do have a place for it?? Time will tell.

I went and bought my switch in the end of February of 2020, just before the quarantine here in Greece. I primarily got it for games I play on PC to be able to play them on the go. Plus some first party titles. But the new switch with OLED is not a good upgade to buy. And now I'm waiting for the steam handheld to come out and see if it is good enough to buy it. That could possibly be a good upgrade for me personaly.

completely agree with you! i definitely want another switch as backup before the end of its' life-cycle. but i'm fine with waiting for a much better deal or the fabled "switch pro" to possibly come out. that said, i did pre-order the white swoled for my nephew who has never owned a nintendo product in his life. as someone who also grew up with the original gameboy and having to find the perfect light source in order to play and enjoy it, i imagine he will really enjoy it to say the least xD

i thought about getting the oled model, but then again the current one i have now works just fine. if it gets too scuffed up and if the shell gets a glossy look from use i usually get a new shell from extremerate for it. custom shells are a great way to give your current switch a personal look. skins are nice, but they only cover so much and they dont look right unless you get a skin that matches the color of your og switch or switch light. i like the idea of a white switch, but you can easily do the exact same thing with the original for $35 for the basic kit or $55 for the kit that comes with the front panel. if they no longer ship out older models tho then yes i recommend getting the new model when available cause even today the old ones are still selling out the day stores get them including the lite model. i think the only time i might get the new one is if its an actual hardware overhaul or if my current one dies

I was so, so close to getting one, but I'm in the same boat where I don't really need it, my launch console is still going strong. I do play a lot of indies and jrpgs in handheld, I'd say I'm about 60/40 tv to handheld split. That oled would be nice, but that alone isn't worth the upgrade for my use case

I have an original launch switch, but I use my PS5 for TV play. For me, the stand out reason I choose to buy games on switch is the handheld ability and option to dock. The improved screen is great, especially for handheld play. A nice refresh after 4 years of ownership is good for me, and I use my switch all the time. If I want 4k performance etc I will buy the game on PS5.

450 canadian is 302 euro as of writing this. Thats pretty much the same price as the old switch new. If your only getting into switch in 2021, it makes sense. I have the regular model and an sd cart, and i'm 28 and have had to put up with batteries falling out of my gameboy and monochrome graphics, so Im a happy camper with my 5inch screen.

I heard they are going to sell the new dock and the new switch console by itself separate too if you just want the console upgrade. Maybe gamestop might do a trade in deal too like they did with the v2 switch where you trade in what you have plus $100 for the upgrade.

I love both the switch and switch lite, but I had traded in my original switch for the lite. I plan on getting the OLED so that my wife can take over the switch lite and I can have the oled as well as take advantage of the new features like the new dock with integrated Ethernet capabilities and kickstand. Plus the white looks super nice!

Why: I use mine at work, in my line of work, in table top mode w/ pro controller all the time; so the new kickstand is great. Also looking forward to more vibrant colors and bigger screen. No where near enough memory for AAA PC games, even on the most expensive model. Game developers compress files to run on Switch, They won't be optimizing PC games to run on the ShitDeck.

Yes I want to get one as I have an original launch switch as well as a switch lite. I play games mostly in handheld and I like playing RPGS, I do however find the switch lite screen too small for a small number of text heavy RPGs. The larger oled screen will make playing these games easier and more enjoyable. Basically I want the bigger brighter screen for handheld mode and it will replace my launch model switch which has low battery life.

"My Gameboy with the magnifying glass and light!" I vividly remember having to do the exact same thing. The worst was those long car rides home from a relatives house and 5 minutes into the drive the batteries in the light died on you. The stuff of nightmares. I remember playing Atari and NES on a Black and White tv from the 70s with a snowy picture to begin with in RF! I NEVER complain about modern screens ever. "It's only 720 and not 4K! This is totally unacceptable!" SNOWY BLACK AND WHITE TV FROM THE 70S IN RF! Personally, as someone who doesn't own a Switch, I want this OLED to sell like hotcakes so when the next Nintendo console comes out and these are being sold as last gen consoles I'll be able to find TONS of them for like $100 bundled with games like I did my Wii U when Switch was released.

Screen burn-in makes the original model more time proof. Switch OLED is a luxury for Nintendo heads. Screen Burn-in is a real issue .... I have a fancy phone with a the bells and whistles and it has burn in. My last phone had burn in. It all depends on how much you use it. I have my white OLED on pre order. Im a Nintendo junky.

I'm personally happy it's not a full on pro kind of upgrade. I think having 3 models in the lineup is a good idea since the 3ds is now gone. And im sure it doesn't make nearly as many people who recently bought the normal model regret it

I can understand that some do not need the OLED model. Most of them don't have an OLED TV either. Once used to OLED, it will be difficult to do without it again. So many say about certain films they have seen: much too dark, you hardly see anything. You will never hear that from an OLED owner. Due to the LED backlighting of LCDs, especially with the cheap Edge LED, the black values ​​are bad. Which in dark scenes like in the last Harry Potter movie, on the Sith planet in Star Wars 9, and so many other films with similarly dark scenes, can blur whole areas into an anthracite area. Details and gradations are barely noticeable. With OLED, every single pixel is self-luminous. So each pixel can be controlled with its own brightness or switched off for perfect black. The contrast is therefore infinite. In games this usually plays less of a role than in films, but due to the infinite contrast, everything looks much crisper and more natural, especially colors.

I don't think it's a must buy for sure. I'm just getting it since I still have my launch switch and play 99% in handheld. To me the minor battery life update(from the red box switch), screen and kickstand(especially since I fly/travel quite a bit) are all worth it. I'll probably end up selling my launch switch to a friend.

Here in Italy it costs 349€ (30€ more than the regular one). Gamestop let me trade my old switch for 200€, so 150€ for the upgrade plus a new 2 years warranty (the warranty on my old model is expired). I'm not saying it's the deal of the century, but I think I'll be happy with it 'cos I 80% play handheld (I'd never do it otherwise).

For me I still have the launch Switch so I am excited to pick up the Oled. Its a pretty big upgrade for me, I'm most excited about having the better battery life. And I need that Oled screen in my life!

Don't care about the OLED at all. My Smash switch still works perfectly and I would only get a new one if there's a Metroid themed model coming out.

Actually that’s why the main OLeD model has white joy cons and a white base. It’s suppose to resemble the Emmi from Metroid Dread, which launches the same day. It’s subtle but intentional.

Who used to play the old game boy and game boy colour back in the day in the back of your parents car, on a yourney at night time, waiting for the street lamps to go past to illuminate it so you could see what you was playing? This only really worked for games like Pokemon where you can wait to see what you was doing
