As a previous graphic designer, I don’t think that most people realize why we are so hard on ourselves. It is a competitive field, and their will ALWAYS be someone better than you or wanting to be better than you. If you don’t keep up your trade, you fall behind and risk losing out on future opportunities.

Yeah I was a graphic design student. I thought I was good but when I attended to class I was the worst in class I tried to make it work during three years doing my best but then I started to hate being in class ( our professor told us our work was shit) and I changed my major to Art history. Graphic design is hard and full of competition that's why graphic designers have my respect.

I'm currently in University, studying Comics and Graphic Novels, as I hope to work in the comic book industry one day, and I am always hard on myself, because over the years, I've learnt to analyse my work, to spot any flaws and needs of improvement. I feel like it's similar for others. We are hard on ourselves because we know we can keep working and improving. Sometimes I will redraw something ten times or more, until I'm happy with the result.

I'm also wondering, when are you ever gonna review the rest of the episodes of Porkchops N' Flatscreens, you kinda went out of order and need to revisit to understand the full story though might have to continue from Episode 2-37. I also loved your attempt of voice acting as one of the characters back then and It's be real nice to hear your lovely voice again cause I laughed at a few scenes and I think you got potential.

The reason us artists are so hard on ourselves is because we are always improving (every second) and we know we can do better but sometimes we are too mean.

I'll like to add that being good at art isn't a talent it's a skill anyone can literally be an artist For example my skill on art was all thanks to this channel named Proko his the reason for my art skill have improved so much

As an artist, I think we're hard on ourselves because we're improving and can see the flaws in our artwork. I think it's harder to see flaws in other's work however.

Coming from an artist themselves most are hard on there art mostly because there are things artist notice about the art in question that non artist or lower skill artist may not see from first glance and while some can be a tad hard on themselves to a point for the most part they may be seeing something that someone else might not. I can understand the overwork problem especially being self employed, although I never been self employed I had the misfortune 6-7 years ago of havibg an employer who abused me verbally, mentally and financially. I never got paid on time (in Belgium you need to be paid by the 7th workday of the next month); if I complained he started attacking me on my job performance even while it was good never good enough for him (he demanded I did more overtime each week for which In the end I did not compensation) and he constantly threatened to fire me in such a way I would have been unable to get unemployment benefits or get other employment. Luckily my therapist managed to intervene getting me on medical leave which I used to find a new job.

Talking about the overworking thing of being a youtuber, Personally i want to start making videos soon. I am someone who has already overworked myself because i just love making stuff. Though i do it next to college and so i ask a lot of myself. If i get a job it would mean that i would do my own work in the free time but if i do youtube more than i don't also have to work a job so i think i'd overwork myself less that way.

A lot of artist have this expectation of how they want their art piece to look like but it's challenging to get to those expectations. There's also the fact that many artist find it hard to be proud of their work because they see all the tiny mistakes they made and the flaws that it has. Meanwhile other people don't have that bar and find your work amazing even if you don't think so yourself.
