Thank you so much for this video! I have been working in health insurance for 15 years and of that, 11 of which in overpayment recovery. I decided to pursue my CPC to give me the pre-req I needed for higher grade level payment integrity positions. My eyes are on Audits. I would love to see a video like this that is geared more towards someone who already has experience in healthcare/billing and has had it for awhile and deciding what credentials might be a good idea. I imagine I'm not the only person who's been working with billing for an extended period of time but is trying to build their portfolio for advancement.

💯. Some of us have worked in healthcare for some time, but are transitioning over to coding work. We know terminology, anatomy, and medical practices & guidelines cold. But we're struggling presenting that as added value to both ourselves and to future coding employers, esp when we're newly certified.

I've been planning to get CIC (after CPC), but when it comes to risk adjustment, auditing and other roles like that, the big question is could you still work from home? I won't lie, 80% of the reason I chose coding is to work from home and never commute again. The other 20% is my background in the medical field giving me a bonus since I'm pretty strong in medical terminology and all that.

Hi Victoria! I will later on today purchase the Preppy course. The opportunity to work somewhere sounds very interesting and nobody so far has that feature. I work in the HIM dept as a medical records technician, scanning records into Epic all 8 hours. I have a billing certificate from a community college, but I don't feel ready to work as a biller. Don't feel prepared enough for a billing job. 😑 I hope Preppy helps me get a job once I finish the course.

Good luck to you! The thought of scanning into Epic for 8 hours a day sounds like a mind-numbing nightmare so I hope things go well!

I hope your Preppy experience was great. Mine was about a 7-7.5/10 and I've worked in HC, too, for several years. Most of the course was really good, but the content needs updated in several places and the section on looking for a job, etc, was abysmal.

Hi Victoria! Thank you so much! I watch almost all of your videos. You know, maybe I am depressed, but sometimes it feels that having more credentials not always help. Sometimes it's more whom you know. I have CPC and CPB. But I am not very good at networking. Considering being immigrant. I recently had an interview with one of the best hospitals here in Philadelphia where I live. Now HR just ignoring my email. I wish they would send an email stating that they decided to go with another candidate. Especially after having the second round if interview.

@@bridgetmercado5903 yes online and if you have not joined yet I highly recommend becoming a member of AAPC. I did get the course for free no exam so I will have to pay for. But just the course alone is 2005.00 if a member then 1195. I will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course. Purchased my CPC exam in August when it was on sale. For 670. I have 2 attempts on my exam in person, study guide and 3 practice tests. Just the exam with 1 retake is close to 500. Long story short I don’t think you will be scammed with going through AAPC. I could be wrong and Victoria can probably guide you better on your options and choices. Crap, it’s taken me 20 years just to get the nerve up to even decide to step out of my box and bite the bullet. If I can help you out with anything please feel free to reach out to me and I’ll try. Good luck and Best Wishes.

You don’t need to pay for an AHIMA membership to get their credentials, it just makes the credential test fee and recertification fee a bit cheaper for members. There’s also other perks they throw in as well, such as included CEU’s but you really don’t need the membership.

I have credentials with both ahima and cpc and it hasn’t had any real affect on my pay where I currently am. Seems like years of experience is where more money comes in. So I’ve decided I don’t need anymore but I’ll still take course for personal growth.

Hi! I love your videos ! You have also answered some of my questions before and it’s been super helpful. I wanted to ask, I am thinking strongly about the course you helped develop for Preppy. I want to get my CCSP from AHIMA and also my CIC. Will that prepare me for both tests?….It is two tests right? Lol 😅

Hi Victoria and everyone. Thank you for another good video! I am thinking about entering medical coding as a profession. I have a healthcare background/medical college. I am disabled. Would you recommend entering this field as a work from home option? Can anyone tell me if newly certified medical coders immediately get a work from home/remote job? Can someone earn enough straight away to be at least independent, live alone or financially ok? I don't mean to be negative or a debbie downer but I'm noticing in my research about medical coding and getting the feeling (or maybe I'm being paranoid) there's a LOT of new coders out there who are at a dead-end or regretting and it's a pipe-dream or a rabbit hole or catch-22 situation and all about the money when it comes to associations, courses, credentials and CEUs and jobs or a lack of motivation or maybe laziness or that coding is another failed attempt at another profession. I understand that society requires regulations, associations/bodies, licensing and highly structured (all of these specially in health care) and every profession has a first step and often times it is the hardest step and seems most difficult but then the advice is to keep trying or to be strong/patient, however in the meantime swaths of time passes by and staying registered/CEUs/pursuing credentials costs chunks of money, how to pay for all that if one cannot find employment (vast number of job postings say need experience etc). Yes, one can volunteer or do internships or network, network, network, pray and stay positive but at the end of the day one has to pay rent/mortgage, bills, gas is expensive or cannot commute, one has to eat food....how long can someone do all those recommendations until one simply "gets lucky" or the ones who are successful networkers/people person/socially intelligent? Can you or all coders here (specially new coders) discuss whether new coders just have to bite the bullet and just work or enter workforce for whatever wage which is not an "enough to be independent wage" and feel like data entry or frustrated? I don't mean to take anything away from all the coders out there who are success stories, including you Victoria, and my hat's off to you and all successful, happy high-rolling coders! Apologies if i sound cynical, just my 2 cents and just being frank :-) If you or anyone here could share their thoughts about my post and if can immediately work from home straight away please let me know. Thank you.

Hi Victoria! I enjoy your intuitive videos. I've been interested in medical coding for a while. I know that you can work from home in this field. My question is how long after you gain your credentials and get experience before you are able to work from home as a medical coder or biller?
