Great video I couldn't agree with what was said more, the modern life can be very depressing due to social media with people showing off expensive cars, homes ect, it's almost like living a fast life where you don't really get a chance to enjoy the now and what really matters in life

There’s so many points in this video I absolutely agree with. Especially with modern cars. I’m a hater of electric cars an I’m so glad the points you made about them not being as great for the environment as they are claiming to be. Love the nostalgia of the past and the simplicity of past life in some manors. I think the modern life is also great the tech and all that but also think it’s so damaging in many areas to mental health and social skills.

I like the look of a classic/vintage car, but I prefer the crumple zones, air bags and seat belts of modern cars so that my body doesn't take the impact of a crash. I was in a head on collision four years ago, in a 2015 compact car and still all I received, injury wise, was a shattered left ankle and some impressive, but not very significant seat belt contusions. The aibag and seat belts did their thing and the whole front end of the car was crumpled. Would maybe love an vintage looking new car, but safety first in automobiles.

A decent, integrated, affordable public transport system would mean households wouldn't need 5 cars and the petrol-head population could curate the wonderful classics of days gone by. That's the low carbon way. A rich developed country isn't where the poor all have cars. It's where the rich use public transport.

I wholly agree that not having things like lane assistance makes people better drivers - people must pay attention rather than relying on the car. What happens when the car develops a computer fault mid journey? Same with sat navs. Nobody checks out a route anymore. Hannah you said in another podcast that you would love to have a Figaro. They are great to drive - I had one in Lapis Grey. The down side is the boot space. I moved onto a narrowboat, and transporting sacks of coal in the Figaro wasn't going to work, so I sadly got a 'sensible' car 😪

Recycling a combustion engine is very clean, you just get aluminium, cast iron and steel. A lithium battery is full of very toxic forever chemicals, PFAS, PFOS, etc, even trying to recycle it is an environmental nightmare. And the funny part is that we didn't need electric cars to begin with, we can just keep using combustion engines, and use ethanol, biofuel, synthetic fuels, etc. Combustion engines do not need petroleum to run, they can run on many fuels. The same way you don't need petroleum based heating oil, you can use many different liquid fuels to heat a house. Heat pumps are just not very good at heating a house.

EV’s are an environmental scam. Not only are the lithium batteries full of toxic chemicals but virtually impossible to dispose of safely when they wear out.

I've been a car nut most of my life. To me, there's a lot of things that are wrong about today's "cars." 1. There's not much new CARS on the market, especially in America, where I live. If you're not much into pickup trucks, then you're either stuck with an SUV (I don't live on the "back 40," so I'm not really interested), or boxy "crossovers." 2. Doesn't it seem like the more high technology that goes into cars, the less reliable they are? I can still remember when most German luxury cars were "built like tanks;" nowadays smart buyers don't buy them, they lease them, and trade them in when the warranty expires. 3. It seems like few car makers actually make affordable cars anymore. Even looking for a basic no-frills work truck will set you back at least $30,000. About electric cars; I don't hate them, they've really been part of the automotive scene since the beginning, it's just that now we've got battery technology that's making their speed and range approaching that of gas powered cars. And now you can convert classic cars to electric power. If only I could recharge one where I live (an 8 story apartment building).

Old cars can take a good knock, not like modern cars, crumple material in modern.it could get expensive for parts.like the older beetle.25 is right.like ones with fins, like the zepher, they just look good.😊

I work for a carbon reducing charity….. I would NEVER buy an electric car or air source heat pump. The battery in an electric vehicle will only last 7 years and the replacement will cost 7-8k, the look ugly and the colbolt mining is riddled with child slavery and exploitation. Air source heap pump are noisy and only work about -10c. 2y ago we had a spate of temps below-10c and the one at my old house stopped working for days. I’m in a gas property now… thank goodness.

In the UK you have several small shops converting classic cars into electric

I will always buy used older cars( but not antique) i like that they're cheaper, and the safety features, and actual knobs instead of touch screen. I could see buying a hybrid if they prove to be as reliable as gas cars, and theres better battery recycling/build, so therefore its cheaper to get a new battery. I like hybrid in case of gas shortages.
